Spicy Horse, the Shanghai-based studio founded by id Software alum American McGee, has turned to crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to expand the scope of their hopeful free-to-play action RPG Akaneiro: Demon Hunters.
Akaneiro: Demon Hunters will transport you to a world realized in a striking visual style inspired by Japanese ink, watercolor and woodblock illustration. We’ve dug deep into the history and folklore of Japan when designing our scenarios and characters. Mixing this foundation with an original mythology inspired by Red Riding Hood yields a fantastic and inspiring setting for players to explore.
The game, described as a fast-paced ARPG "inspired by Japanese themes and the Red Riding Hood tale", has been in development since mid 2011, and is currently running a closed beta on PC and Mac, and is currently number three on the Steam Greenlight waiting list. The Kickstarter project is aiming for a modest US$250,000 target, hopin to branch out to an Android and iOS tablet version, add cooperative multiplayer, an expanded equipment crafting system, and an assortment of other features.

Further stretch goals include two 24-mission content expansions, Linux support, and a PvP arena.

Catch the Kickstarter pitch video below, and head over to the Kickstarter page for all the details.
