Back in October 2009, the Brisbane, Australia-based studio known as Fuzzyeyes fell into economic turmoil, shedding its local staff, and suspending development of Edge of Twilight --a promising action adventure game with a fantasy steampunk theme.
Three years later, in late 2012, a new publisher calling themselves Fuzzyeyes Entertainment has announced that Edge of Twilight is back, as a planned series, with the first game apparently due to launch within the next couple of weeks.
The Edge of Twilight series is a multiplatform, diverse-genre series of steampunk titles, all taking place in the same world, one in which night and day exist as separate realms. The series will not commit to a set genre, but instead focus on a set world, flushing out the characters, world, and story throughout the series. The first title, which is set for release in late 2012, will carry the name of the series itself, Edge of Twilight, and will focus around Lex, a half-breed who can bridge the gap between the realms of darkness and light. This forthcoming title will be an action/adventure game with heavy focus on gameplay, story, and puzzles. The announcement press release is a little all over the place, but the key points we can gather are that development of Edge of Twilight resumed in 2011 out of JDJC & Fuzzyeyes offices in Japan and Taiwan, and the game is to be published by a new entity calling itself Fuzzyeyes Entertainment, formed as a joint venture between that game development studio and a Japanese engineering consulting firm known as Futai Engineering Co. Confused? We are, but we've reached out to Fuzzyeyes to try and find out more.
Back at the 2008 Tokyo Games Show, AusGamers previewed Edge of Twilight, and interviewed the then Australian Lead Designer, Andy Chrysafidis.
We're not sure if any of the original Australian developers are still involved, or how much the soon-to-be-released game will resemble the one we saw back then, but the announcement does explain that the trailers released at the time "still stand". It was also originally being developed for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, but there's no confirmation of its current platform plans.
An official website features three images, "2012", "2013", and "summer 2013" perhaps suggesting projected launch dates for planned episodes in the series.
