Futuristic ideas you're excited about

One of the things I love about the internet is being able to see what's happening in the world of R&D. I find it so fascinating learning what some of the world's top minds are thinking about.

The reason behind this thread is to share videos/articles about cool new ideas that could have a profound effect on stuff.

I'll start with a few links rather than embedding so that the page doesn't get too long

Curiosity - Can You Live Forever (3 parts) - http://youtu.be/Nzhxtm2O7oU

Aubrey De Gray - Ageing: http://youtu.be/8iYpxRXlboQ

Scott Summit - 3d Printing: http://youtu.be/99aKpsEALEk

Neil deGrasse Tyson - Growing body parts http://youtu.be/jLs8DeHVkec

Panel discussion - Future in space http://youtu.be/WZw5Vz_imPM

I'll post more as the thread grows :)

I enjoy this sort of stuff in general.

The TED app for the iPad is amazing. You can pick a category, time limit etc and it randomly selects a talk for you to watch.

If you love this stuff, grab the 25 or so eps of Discovery's Sci Fi Science.

There is an episode on Warp Drive which talks about everything in that article.

Hosted by that japanese science guy. :)

http://science.discovery.com/tv-shows/sci-fi-science/videos/sci-fi-science-traveling-at-warp-speed.htm
(This doesn't show full episodes i don't think)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sci_Fi_Science:_Physics_of_the_Impossible

Some awesome eps. Loved the "how to be a superhero" one.

what like some sort of compressor or something, I think some guy called whittle was working on that one, and if that doesn't work, this funky hipster looking dude called goddard has done a little work that might be worth looking into

No I mean you know how in sci-fi things just hover about or ships take off into space really easily? Without any evident downward airflow, or excessive noise...

it is indeed. and add TED to Flipboard for an even more awesome win!

I would love to have time travel, minus the butterfly effect. to be able to drop myself in a place, moment, event, in history to see what it was really like without it affecting me or vice versa. to perhaps be invisible and impervious to anything going on.

Well that's obviously how it will be done, otherwise we'd already be seeing time travelers popping up.

You weren't supposed to reveal that yet. The "revelation act" is up for debate at the next TT AGM which from memory is being held on the 26th January 1788 at a secret beach location.

currently, my boss is my tablet.

my human boss is someone who I see as a 'coach'.

I would like technology to reach everyone in this manner, though not just for the sake of increasing share prices.

I'm really not excited about the future currently. I'm still figuring out how to weather the storm which is coming

Advances in medicine which allow for a better quality of life, not necessarily a longer one.

ie replacement eyes for the blind/visually impared, replacing failed kidneys and genetic screening/manipulation to remove defects/diseases.

Feminism for SexBots ?
(at least the Female ones)

Feminism has led to Women being treated equally to Men.
No longer Servants, often Master now.
