While Peter Molyneux's own god game revival crowdfunding project surges toward its funding goal, another more modest UK indie developer has reached their more modest target, securing development of Maia, a hopeful addition to the genre, described as "Dungeon Keeper meets Dwarf Fortress on a primordial alien world".
Inspired heavily by the 70's Sci-fi aesthetic, Maia is a colony management simulator where you must keep your colonists safe, fed and happy. Liberally influenced by nineties god games, the game will have a dark sense of humour and more toys to play with than you can shake a Molyneux at.
Development of Maia is the first solo indie project from Simon Roth, a former Frontier Developments employee who is also credited with work on indie-hit VVVVVV.

With Maia now having met its £100,042 goal, the final three days of the project will be directed toward an assortment of equally modest stretch goals, including a story campaign, campaign editor, super hi-res mode, and a robot editor.

The game is in the works for PC, Mac, and Linux; will be DRM-free, and a playable release is expected in mid January, with the full game aiming for a mid 2013 launch. Find more details and contribute over on the Kickstarter page.
