Originally released in 2003, PlanetSide was a game that Sony Online Entertainment truly struck gold with, showcasing that huge battles in open-world environments were chaotic and fun. Fast-forward to 2012 and Sony has just recently launched the sequel to the MMOFPS, PlanetSide 2, and continues to cram thousands of people on to servers for hectic on-foot and in-the-air battles.
With Australian servers being available on release, the promise of true chaotic warfare and great teamplay gameplay, is PlanetSide 2 ready for your help? We got our man-at-arms Bennett Ring to check it out and give us his view on just how well SOE has executed the launch of their new MMOFPS, and just where it will go in the long run.
There really is no excuse not to try Planetside 2, especially as the only cost is your gaming time. Be warned though, this is a very addictive game, and it could spoil your previous favourite shooter with its incredible sense of scale. It’s astonishing to see a free to play game deliver such a polished package, that also breaks new technological boundaries.
