I dunno how they make the call to put Arkham City in but not Arkham Asylum, and yet Portal but not Portal 2.

Weird how Double Dragon isn't listed for the 80's and then you have crap like Joust in there. Oh well, what can you do? I guess it's just one persons own list.

All these lists are very personal. I'd really like to see a ranking created that combines player ratings + copes sold (somehow normalised) + critics rating.

Chrono Trigger always appears on those damn lists of best games ever. Am I the only one who didn't enjoy it? Nothing about it grabbed me and yet it's called one of the best rpgs of all time.

Yeah, it didn't do anything for me either, I tried it when they re-released it recently on DS and got bored of it pretty fast.
So many games missing from the 90's, what about all the classic adventure games? No Monkey Island, no Day of the Tentacle, no Full Throttle, at least Grim Fandango gets a mention I guess, but no Space Quest in the 80's/90's either! And no X-Wing! And no Alone in the Dark, one of the games responsible for fathering the whole "survival horror" genre, surely that should be in there.

I dunno how they make the call to put Arkham City in but not Arkham Asylum, and yet Portal but not Portal 2. There's no direct sequels on the list. Weird how Double Dragon isn't listed for the 80's and then you have crap like Joust in there. Why would you pick Double Dragon over Golden Axe or Final Fight (both released in 1989)? Also, Joust is rad.

I have no idea what that means. Arkham City is obviously a sequel.

I guess its sposed to be treated as the whole franchise being on the list? Cos SIlent Hill is on the list, but Silent HIll 2 is the standout game in the series, not the first one.

Disappointed at lack of Mario Kart 64. It's the only game I really play these days, and pretty much everyone I know (gamers and non-gamers alike) all love it. But as people have said, seems more of a personal list than anything...

What a stupid waste of time that list and this thread is. I started reading down the list then stopped, realizing its just that. A list of games. Wow :(

What a stupid waste of time that list and this thread is. I started reading down the list then stopped, realizing its just that. A list of games. Wow :( How were you surprised that it was just a subjective list of games? Surely the subtitle "here are our picks for the All-TIME 100 greatest video games" gave it away. I honestly have no idea what people who say lists like this are "shit" expect. They're always either going to be emotion-based opinions, or sterile rankings of games by sales numbers or something. Boo hoo your favourite games didn't make it on the list, poor baby.

list is bullshit cause we didnt get asked for input.
Descent should be there in 90's games. Its a brillant 6 degree of freedom 3D multi player game from 1994. I played this using Kali over dial up and it was smooth as silk.
Also missing Command & Concur from 1995
Yet another was Duke nukem 3D 1996
shit list is shit

Boo hoo your favourite games didn't make it on the list, poor baby. As if i care about that princess. I wasnt expecting Bombjack, Wonderboy or at the very least MarioKart to appear on their list. Now that i have time, I've noticed that the list is all hyperlinked to blurbs explaining why the game made the list and a brief history. Far more interesting than just a random list of games in chronological order imo

Ha, "Best games" aren't defined by how good you thought it was at the time. If we went by that list, it would be filled with games like Donkey Kong Country which were awesome at the time but are rubbish if you go back and play them now.
Games like LttP, SoM, OOT, Q3 however - there's a reason they keep getting re-released on things like iOS, VirtualConsole, 3DS, Flash etc, and still sell - it's not for nostalgia, it's because they're still incredibly awesome, playable games.

it's not for nostalgia Pretty sure a large part of it is nostalgia. I bought OOT when it was re-released on 3ds recently, and as someone who's never played it before, I had none of that nostalgia or connection to it, and I couldn't really get into it at all. It felt clunky and didn't measure up at all to games these days, didn't hold my interest for very long at all. Not through any fault of its own I'm sure, I wouldn't expect any game that old to hold up compared to modern games, but it still means you need a healthy dose of nostalgia I think to enjoy it.

Donkey Country is even better than playing with your mum. It's not saying much but that game is still damn good, asshole.
