Is the best way to purchase from US Steam Store to create a purpose built Steam gifting account ?
It's looking like creating a Amazon cloud openVPN microserver.
FoxyProxy.
Then get a US postal (not sure it's needed) via usamail1.com, myus.com, usabox.
Hope my card works in the US. Maybe entropay ?
Stupid censoring and regionalised prices ... fuck boba

Do you know anyone in the US or at least trust someone in the US enough to send them money to buy games and then gift them to you? It is better doing it that way as it doesn't break any of Steam's TOS and keeps the chances of your account being nuked at zero.
However the other ways do work apparently, and I highly doubt Steam would nuke your account for using them. However just keep in mind that if you do break their TOS they have the right to.

Last Xmas steam sale i did the USA VPN + credit card and it worked 1 time, then i couldnt get it to work again. Dunno why. Since then i just avoid AUS rip off prices but this does mean i cant grab certain games. Most of the time i torrent them as thats my way of sticking it to whoever decides to rip off aussies but this does mean i miss out on multiplayer.
Highly doubt they would ever nuke your account, most likely they just try to prevent us getting around the aus rip off price as best they can.
IIRC there are trustworthy people on steam forums that you give money and they gift you the game. Never tried this though.

heaps!
don't get me wrong, but the whole point of this internet forum idea thing here is discussing ideas, and making new contacts.
if you don't know even one person in another country who can hook you up with a videogame via Steam then you could benefit from some people skills training.

then delete the thread. If OP is against asking friends for favours, doesnt me he cant create an alter ego USA account and gift to himself. Wasnt that what he was asking about? I get where he is coming from regarding asking for favours, especially from people online that you dont know IRL. I much rather do everything myself if possible - why rely on others?

My account was not banned but they stopped me from buying anything from the store for ages until I contacted support. They knew of my VPN trickery.

Asking a friend in the US to gift you something from Steam hardly even counts as a favour. It's like 60 seconds out of their day, and you can even offer them area dollars for their time.

What Obes is trying to say, is that he doesn't have any friends in the US anymore after he got stuck on that bridge in daoc that time and chucked a massive tantrum and quit.

Obes: weren't you one of the people that mentioned receiving an account warning from Valve for excessive Steam gifting from overseas accounts?
Gifting back to an Aussie account from a US one might be the tidiest way to do it, but seems like it would be easier for them to detect/flag you if you're doing that.
From Valves point of view they probably shouldn't care too much if you're circumventing region protections as they still get a cut, but I imagine they need to be seen as doing something to deter it, so as not to upset all of their publishing partners.

Dan my missus has gifted me probably 20 games over the years and its never been a problem

No not me.
And as far as I know, no one has ever been flagged for receiving gifts (but then I also don't know anyone that has received a flag for anything ... so who knows)

I didn't tantrum, I quit.
At least I know my job casa ... remember when you told me LED was shit and would go away ? What is your job again ?

We've got a web server located in the US. I usually remote connect on to that and purchase that way.

Is there anything in their subscriber agreement that expressly forbids circumventing their region protection system?

Just saw the following posted on Whirlpool forums so I guess Steam updated their terms to stop people doing this...
Under ...
3. BILLING, PAYMENT AND OTHER SUBSCRIPTIONS
A. Payment Authorization.
"You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, we may terminate your access to your Account."

Out of interest, would people be willing to pay an extra couple of bucks to get a US-gifted version from a reliable source?

Yeah trog, there are no restrictions on gifting. But I think they ban selling gifts, if they can prove it.
It's basically a breach of the FTA.

The VPN thing has been hit and miss for me in the past and i would happily pay for somebody to do it for me. However, i mainly buy games that are on sale when the USA and USA price is a few bucks difference and no big deal as opposed to new release games.

Stupid censoring and regionalised prices ... fuck boba I used to do it this way, but Entropay seemed to stop working for me altogether. Now I'm fortunate I have a guy in the US I throw a couple of bucks his way to gift it to me.

If it can be thoroughly investigated to be sure that I'm not going to get into trouble with Valve, then yeah, I'd be interested.

If it can be thoroughly investigated to be sure that I'm not going to get into trouble with Valve, then yeah, I'd be interested. I highly doubt valve would punish somebody in AUS for being gifted a USA priced game. Maybe if somebody made a business out of it with a webpage where they gifted USA games and netted $10 profit per game. Considering all the cd key seller sites that require russian VPN workarounds, i dont see valve kicking up a stink about a few aussies avoiding the rip off.

i dont see valve kicking up a stink about a few aussies avoiding the rip off. Maybe, but this "service" of paying for gifts would quickly become popular and draw scrutiny from the cock sucking publishers. Wo will then bitch and whine to Valve, who has a proven track record for appeasing there every request if it stands to make them a lot of fucking money.
