Microsoft launched the new software today as a Consumer Preview users can download and test from office.com/preview, though its official launch is not expected until Windows 8 is released in October.
Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said Office 15 was an “ambitious” redesign that changed Microsoft Office from programs in a box to net-savvy software using the cloud.
7 was Office 95 8 was Office 97 9 was Office 2000 10 was Office XP 11 was Office 2003 12 was Office 2007 13 was skipped because evil number 13 superstition 14 is Office 2010 15 is going to be called office 2013
Office 2003 was Office 11 Office 2007 was Office 12 Office 13 was skipped (Microsoft is triskaidekaphobic according to wikipedia) Office 2010 was Office 14
Side note: What's with the photo of the 2 women? One's looking at the camera she's holding, the other is looking at the camera used to take the actual photo.
I hope they've given admins enough control the cloud stuff in a corporate setting. Confidential documents whizzing about the interwebs sounds like a compliance nightmare.
I'll stick to Office 2007! The best Office.
Office 2010 is just like 2007 but better. I liken it to the difference between Windows 7 and Vista.
Wait - so you *have* to use Office 365 if you want Office 2013 now?
It's separate. Office365 is subscription based, there's still Office Professional Plus 2013 you can download and install as a standalone though they don't make it easy to find, it's burried in small text under all the Office365 stuff.
Man, Microsoft are killing desktop UI design with Metro. I like Metro, but it only really works on tablets and phones.
They've caused a huge uproar for totally ruining the Visual Studio UI with it in particular. Menu items in caps? It looks disgusting. Flat UI with no separation between major panels. Glyph (not objects) icons which are hard to distinguish do even more damage than the Ribbon did back in the day. I tried coding some stuff in VS 2012 and I got sick of it. The UI was horrible.

Trying the Office 15 beta on Windows 8 atm, if Windows is losing Aero and will be like Office then I quite like it. Simple, minimalist but easy to find everything you need.
