I am somewhat disappointed. They have gone with Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.....wtf!!
I've read around 5 so far then had a break and only just recently downloaded this one for my Kindle and started it http://www.leechild.com/hardway.php
for those that don't know, Jack is the main character in the books by Lee Child which are good mindless fun with a great character. The problem with choosing TC is that Jack as described in the books is "Reacher is 6' 5" tall (1.96m) with a 50-inch chest, and weighing between 210 and 250 pounds (100–115 kg)." More details wiki
If you know these novels can you picture Tom Cruise as Jack? a bit hard. So i thought maybe they'll use some trick photography angles to make him seem this size, nope! I can't really think, out of the modern day actors, who would have been suitable but I am under whelmed by the choice of Tom. There are a few other characteristics, if you've read any of the books you'll know, that to me just don't fit with TC in the role.
Maybe Statham, or Bale? 20 years ago i would have gone Eastwood for sure.
What's the feedback on who would have suited this role?
Haven't read any Jack Reacher books, but it did make me think, I'm suprised nobodys bought the rights to Matthew Reilly's Scarecrow or Seven Ancient Wonders books. Both series would make pretty good popcorn movies imo.

yeah they would make good action/adventure movies. i think he sold hover car racer to disney a few years back but they haven't done anything with it.
No idea about the books but as for the lead role, Whoop is more on the money. 100+kg is asking for a big guy - bale has no size and while statham is ripped a quick google has him as less than 6 foot and probably 80kg or so. You're really asking for a big ass muscle man.
Is it just me or does that movie look very average? Tom Cruise doesn't worry me but it doesn't look very exciting. I guess we'll soon find out.
Just bothered to watch the video, you're right. It looks like a shit version of mad max + the punisher
You think I'm a hero? I am not a hero. If you're smart, that scares you
Then you see a midget standing in the middle of a crowd of normal people. Scared? haha what. As if they all wouldn't be carrying guns & just shoot him. I'm so over 1 vs many fight scenes in movies, they're stupid. The "gang" always attacks one at a time, no one ever shoots (they just stand there aiming the guns but never fire) and inevitably the one guy beats them all. As.fucking.if.

If someone were to follow closely to the books, they would be awesome films. Just would cost a tonne to make.
Step: agreed they could make for good movies. I sort of see him as Clive Cussler lite in terms of storyline but I just can't stand the way he almost always ends a chapter with what he sees as suspense (oh no XXX is gonna die) and then in the first sentence of the next chapter XXX survives.
Though Scarecrow sounded familiar, I've read that, pretty hectic.
Looks like films are in the works, From the wikipedia article:
After completing the first draft of his most recent book The Five Greatest Warriors, Matthew Reilly was engaged by a Hollywood producer to adapt Scarecrow into a screenplay. It is to be the first in a series of Shane Schofield movies which Matthew Reilly says is okay with him "but structurally it means introducing characters like Scarecrow and Mother and Book and Fox within the framework of the story in Scarecrow, as opposed to (the prequel) Ice Station".
Yeah, I would have thought Ice Station would make a good starting point, and it wouldn't be that expensive to make either since most of it takes place inside the installation. Most expensive bit would probably be the hovercraft chase scene accross the ice.
Scarecrow on the other hand is all over the place and full of huge action set pieces, talk about jumping in the deep end.
Ron Perlman would have been AWESOME for this role.
Half the time the standard Tom Cruise facial expression is apprehension or fear, and he has a voice like a slightly masculine girl. They should have saved him for a more appropriate movie befitting his talents, Jack Reacharound.
He's meant to be an ex-military police tough guy.. I don't know if Tom Cruise really suits it.. i pictured Reacher as being a bit older..
I'm not sure who I would've cast.. I think christian bale could've done it better then cruise.. hell even dicaprio better then cruise.... but someone older..
