I hope for everybody's sake he's just a lone idiot and somebody didn't seriously suggest this would be a good idea in a Labor caucus meeting.

Probably that bloody Peter Garrett. Jokes on him, older generation are too embarrassed to admit to listening to Skyhooks and younger generations have no idea who Skyhooks are.

Unsure if the wiki description of this guy as a "singer" precedes or follows this video.

Hahaha.

So, is this a success or a failure as a PR stunt!?

He's put his face everywhere and managed to get a message out. Not sure you could call it a 'win' though.

Jesus... it really tells a great deal about how poorly Labor have done when people are seriously considering voting this thing in as leader of the whole country instead. Howard was a cunt but at least he had a brain.

Funny you should be the person to say this infi.

edit: I actually really liked that response from Tony Abbott. He did give him the response he deserved.

Definitely agreeing but also pointing out that you should probably take your own advice.

Except for when shutting your pie hole is what makes you look like a lame dick. Fair enough if they were dodgy questions that didn't deserve an answer, he could have walked off and snubbed the guy, but standing there staring at him and twitching like you're having a stroke isn't the smoothest move.

Silence is best as it is hard to broadcast. If he walks off they have some planned things to call out to make you look bad, "Tony, why are you dodging this issue?" ect.

from his wiki...
Emerson was in a relationship with fellow MP Julia Gillard in 2002, prior to her rise to the prime ministership.[5] He was previously married and has three children.

that is more embarrassing than his song and dance..

I'm sorry I must have missed the part where – as a politician – it's lamer to do some shitty embarrassing song and dance than it is to lack the brain power to either answer a question or walk away.

Regardless of the merits of the question, he's a politician who will need to make very important decisions for the future of the country. If his best effort in the face of a relatively insignificant question is to stand there silently twitching with a serial killer-rapist look on his face for a minute straight then you'll forgive me for having some grave concerns.

Silence is best as it is hard to broadcast. If he walks off they have some planned things to call out to make you look bad, "Tony, why are you dodging this issue?" ect.

What a total load of rubbish to say a response that is hard to broadcast is best. How about a strong, confident, well thought out response that is actually worth broadcasting? He just looks weak and confused in the video.

The better response would have been to immediately repeat his statement that the question was inapporpriate or unwarranted and that he had already given the answer he felt appropriate. Instead of standing there in silence for the better part of a minute and then doing that.

On the other hand, the best response would have been to actually explain why it was inappropriate beyond the empty memorised script statement that they "shouldn't be turning it into a media circus". Is it too much to ask for politicians with actual individual thinking brains?
