Yea true, not unlike COD really. Brand loyalty all the way. But that's not to say that if there was original films that those same audiences would not show up.

Even with that acception the trend remains unchanged. Also it's not a randomly selected 3, it's four 10 year intervals.

Its easier to get approval to spend $200 million dollars on a remake of something with brand recognition instead of an unknown original project.

Hollywood is risk adverse and content to churn out remaks of remakes of reboots of sequels of reimaginings. Hence why I have not been to the movie theatre in about 3 years.

I've been watching a lot of RoboCop lately, I was big fan as a kid, I even had a RoboCop costume. I'm very familiar with the movies, and I rewatched the series recently - which was pretty cheesy despite it's massive budget. I also watched RoboCop: Prime Directives, the miniseries, for the first time - it portrays Murphy as an older cop to begin with and it's set 10 years after he becomes RoboCop where he is becoming a bit obsolete/irrelevant, it was a bit boring though.

One thing that kinda bothers me about RoboCop lately is you can clearly see the bottom half of his face, and he's all over TV, etc... and nobody goes "hey there's a dude in there? who is that dude??".

Honestly why can't they remake bad films like how they are remaking Judge Dredd. Remaking good classic movies is just utterly retarded.

I bought the first one on blu ray, I thought it still held up pretty well, highlander on the other hand. I had fond memories of that as a kid but it is terrible now.

When I heard a few weeks ago that Gary Oldman had joined the cast, then Sam Jackson, and now (still rumoured) that Hugh Laurie would be playing the villain, I'm looking forward to the reboot. I think the most difficult thing for them to capture but I hope it's included is the dark humour.

Also, regarding the original, I highly recommend checking out the director's cut if you haven't. It's quite a bit bloodier in places, most notably the scene where Murphy is first gunned down. ne ne ne ne ne ne ne ne boom.

More like having to pay $20 to go to the movies has caused piracy. I used to go to the movies all the time but it got so retardedly expensive at my local cinema, and to go to a cinema where it costs less would end up costing me more if you include travel costs in the end I just said f*** it. Now I wait for s*** to come on DVD. No screaming kids, no sticky seats, no cramped leg room, no coughing wankers who just HAVE to see the movie despite the fact they're f*****g sick and infecting everyone.

Prometheus was almost ruined for me thanks to about 3 or 4 separate groups of wankers talking non-stop throughout the entire movie. They weren't even joking or making funny remarks - just talking continuously, not even taking a time-out during critical/pivotal moments of the movie.

I was again reminded of why I prefer to download content rather than put up with that crap.

Next movie I'm going to, I will deploy my frozen coke onto their laps.

Not to get all internet hero on you, but why didn't you at least try to politely ask them to stop? I understand how it is - you're in a movie and the last thing you want to do is start a shouting match with someone so you just bare it, but f*** people talking through movies deserve to be told to shut up I reckon.

The only time I have been forced to tell someone to shup up at a movie was during TDK. I can handle phones ringing and stuff, people make mistakes and forget to stick phones on silent. However some c*** answered and started talking on his phone. That made me mad.

10 minutes in I glare back at them which shuts them up for 4 minutes.
10 minutes later I turn around put my scary face on and quite firmly tell them "Will. you. please. shut. the. f***. up" as I look at each of them in the eye and kept staring at them till they realised I was waiting for a response then they all nodded quickly while looking very sorry.

Movies are owned by business who want to make money (Surprise!!) so when the first Harry Potter makes a truck load of cash, of course they will do another seven!

Also Robocop is awesome, but Hollywood will focus on making it look pretty instead of making a decent story to watch.

Yeah but what's the point? It would just leave a weak point on what would otherwise be the perfect crime fighter. Unless they were able to save his penis too and he might need a real arm to whack off with, i dunno.

How to remake a movie:
1) Pick an old movie no one born after 1990 will have seen
2) Make the suit / vehicle / whatever matt black
3) Give the main character throat cancer and a growl that sounds like he could use some Allen's Soothers
4) film it all at night

You know, if you look at the original costume, and imagine taking the silver bits off - you would basically get what you see here. Except of course we've seen that if robocop takes off his helmet his creepy eyebrow-less face is under there, not another glass helmet.

I could see them making him a bit sleeker, not just for the story but because it is apparently quite hot and sticky for the actor to wear the original robocop costume.

The silver bits might just be attached when he's expecting to take a lot of damage? Kind of like how he can switch his arm for a rocket launcher, or attach a jetpack.

Beta test, testing basic functions like walking and arm movement, when a flash of his past enters his 'programming' and he walks through a few concrete walls and outside, bullets bouncing off of him, desperate to find his wife. When he is brought down and dragged back inside he is shutdown and the glitches fixed. After the glitches are fixed he is fitted with armour and sent out on patrol. Add some explosions, cheesey quoted lines from the previous movies and wham bam blockbuster.

Yeh I reckon the big problem here is the robot bits are far too anatomically human, it makes it look too suit-y.

They've missed the plot here. Robocop is at its core a retelling of Frankenstein (with some social commentary about corporatism etc and laughs for good measure). If he doesn't look like an inhuman freak it doesn't work.

They should have (imo) worked in some CGI to make him clearly non-human in places, I dunno, like his ribs were see-through or something? I had hoped this was the case, but the reddit legion claims he'd have visible tracers and s*** on the suit if it was :(

Indeed, loved hearing that mechanical foot stomping (same really for Ed209 and the Robo version of Cain). Strikes fear into his enemies when he approaches. This new suit seems like it's built for stealth, it's almost like a Batsuit with a Dredd helmet.
