He's essentially like a hindu criticizing a muslim here, saying that their religion is the right one. Just because the two groups are under the larger name of christianity doesn't mean that he can speak for the christians who interpret the bible literally, like the group which I grew up in - it's a separate religion. And if he can get away with magic sperm and divine homophobia from a magic book, why can't they get the devil planting evolution to make true believers doubt? Does his religion/pyramid scheme have some evidence for it which all the jillions of other religions don't?

Nah, He(he) created humans a long, long time ago and we started evolving thousands of years ago... they just had the dates all reversed and stuff, that's all! :P
Also, we are in a Matrix etc etc etc etc.. yawn. :)

Doesn't need to be revised. They can just say genesis is essentially a parable and they are done.

Yeah, if you lived for the thousands of years before catholicism relented to Darwin, you were being told the wrong divine "truth" according to today's catholics.

What ??? An inability to change and being stuck to dogma is what people usually say about religions.
Science changes "it's rules" too ...
If tomorrow someone proves The theory of relativity is wrong ... then oh well it's wrong and off science goes.

Except that this is explicitly stated as the goal of science (e.g. see page 36), religion purports to offer truth and then takes your money/votes, only unhappily being dragged along last on most all major advancements in thinking. e.g. being left handed was once taught as being the way of the devil.

As Nerfy tried to point out ... when someone is absolutely sure about something, and then changes their answer, they lied. We know they're liars, but they keep telling everyone that they know the truth.
The only ways this is a good thing is if it exposes their hypocrisy and lies, or helps improve the mindsets of the blind followers.

Err what? Islam is 100000000x closer to Christianity and Judaism than it is Hinduism. last edited by simul at 14:40:07 29/Jun/12

He's criticizing biblical literalists as being wrong, saying that his view of the bible which doesn't conflict with evolution is the right one. It's two different schisms, two separate religions (the catholic interpretation still creates plenty of problems elsewhere though). It's like a new zealander telling australians that something isn't illegal here while quoting new zealand law.

Christianity is based on a book. The words of the book haven't changed but the interpretation of them is constantly 'evolving'. So it's not really people following the 'word of god' or his first follower's, they're just following what the current guy in the pointy hat is saying. The pope is supposed to be the voice of god on earth...well why didn't god tell the pointy hat guy 100 years ago that evolution was ok?
I have nothing against spirituality and people believing in whatever they like but organized religions are just people telling other people what to do. People should just read the books and figure out what it means for themselves.

That's how we get biblical literalists though, that's even worse :P. Better yet, would just be having a culture which looks down on working from poor sources, such as what the scientologist wizard witchdoctor said that the grand alien moral crystal would do to you if you didn't try to shut down psychology. Or, what this guy said.

no, it doesn't. sciences rules are along the lines of The intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment
this is the doctrine of science, the theories are the result of applying this doctrine to the world. its equivalent to using the bibles doctrine to come up with a theory of why a moral dilemma occurred. the amount of progress you make is dependant on the quality of the doctrine you've used of course.
the only real thing science has on faith (as a necessity really) is that the universe operates under the same fundamental principals, "how it happens here" is meaningful to our observations elsewhere.

Science is basically:
"This happens, and this is what we think might be the cause of such happenings.
Oh, someone else can explain it better? Sure, well let's use that explanation instead.
What? Someone proved it to be incorrect? Hmm, okay. Anyone got any new ideas?"
And so on and so forth.

As much as despise religion in general I attended a religious school that taught evolution in the science room and how it fits in with faith in religion in separate class. So progressive religious thought in this area is not really new.

Speaking of, I saw the most fantastic example of a catholic when the veil is taken away today on "the internet". Apparently all those people aren't real christians, even if they say they are, his definition of christianity is actually the correct objective one.
