After having been through the open universities struggle myself I can recommend that you contact your tutors who will discuss in detail anything you get stuck on. I can't stress that enough. Never hesitate to e-mail your tutor. It's their job to tutor you and they don't want you to fail and I had many late night conversations with my tutors during my "fuck this, I quit" episodes. Also get on blackboard and try to connect with other students, get e-mail addresses and organize times where you can study together. Everything you need to pass the subject is there.

I love how the t.v spots imply that studying through open is easy as 'done'. Total bullshit.

I know the adds are bullshit, I am doing two units a semester on top of full-time work, im struggling a bit with statistics, and not having much luck with guidance.

Accounting can be a bit of a bummer. Stats was by far the hardest for me.
... at least when you finish the degree you can look forward to the chartered accountants...

I'm an accountant and I found the uni subjects, as boring as most where, fairly easy. You just need to remember the 'rules' and it becomes much easier.

Stats on the other hand, I struggled.

I do open uni, defo recommend contacting the tutor as much as possible for help, they are generally very good. Also hit up fellow students on the course via the forums provided by the open uni to organise group study sessions. Don't they have regular classroom tutorials you can attend? My courses to-date have offered this though I rarely go.

Also I'd say always read the student notes section of the assignment booklet for your particular assignment, it makes it very clear exactly what you need to have in the assignment.

You don't need to be good at maths to be an accountant, I'm living proof of that.

Well, I am decent at basic maths is my head but anything more than + - / * % and it's all over for me.

yeah the hardest math you need for accounting is basic arithmetic and maybe some basic algebra for uni problems iirc (grade 8-9 stuff)

if you still need an external tutor (I'd try the suggestions in this thread first) duck into uq or qut and check the noticeboards, there were usually a few people flogging tutoring services on those
