Paul Thomas Anderson's new film The Master has just had it's first trailer released.



Plot synopsis from wikipedia -

A charismatic intellectual (Hoffman) launches a religious organization following World War II. A drifter (Phoenix) becomes his right-hand man but as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the drifter finds himself questioning the belief system and his mentor

The religious organisation they are referring to is obviously Scientology.

PTA is one of my favourite film-makers. There Will Be Blood was simply amazing and probably my favourite film of the decade. He is one of the few directors out there who hasn't produced anything even remotely resembling bad yet. The Master, The Dark Knight Rises, Lincoln and the Hobbit are all coming out this year. This could be one of the best ever years for movies I reckon seeing as though we have already had The Avengers as well.

PS - The Master is coming out October 12th.

I don't think we were meant to glean too much information from that trailer. It was just a teaser to introduce the two main characters.

Ah, you make me laugh. I was watching Paul Thomas Anderson movies while you were just a glint in the eye of the man who raped your mother.

Loved Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love, will have to check this out. I only watched about the first 20mins of There Will Be Blood and gave up but it was more because I was trying to watch on a flight to the US. Been meaning to watch it at home, just haven't got around to it.

Damn this movie was pretty bad. Go see Skyfall instead.
