I'm about to pickup a new 320gb silver ps3 from eb games for $387.
Comes with 2 x controllers, dj hero, gran turismo 5, vitrtuar tennis and a dj turntable.
I am primarily getting the ps3 so I can play BF3 [which i had heaps of fun playing with a previous house mate] I am going to trade in everything but GT5 and put the rest of the money towards bf3, which is $56 or something.
Now, i've never owned a ps3.. I did have an xbox360 for about 2 months but got bored of it.
Needless to say the ps3 I played bf3 on was my flatmates ps3 and he handled all the dling/updating etc.
Main question is am I going to have to purchase whatever expansion packs to play the majority of online bf3?? like that karkand map or whatever, that is from an expansion pack isn't it? Wake island etc?
- Also, what are some MUST HAVE games? - I was thinking that lollipop chainsaw looks pretty cool, have heard good things about uncharted... gta is a must I guess?
I ping 60ms in quakelive from hobart to syd with a telstra 4g wifi modem (using dual channel 3g) - quake is a max of 8v8 - I know bf3 on ps3 is 12v12 - am I going to expect similar results?
(I am able to ping 60ms even when capped to 8kb a sec).
Get Uncharted 2 if you want to try an uncharted game, and if you like that, then get the others maybe. Also, God of War is pretty awesome and is a PS3 staple, but I've only played God of War 3 so I dunno if you're better off playing the earlier ones (you can get them as a HD remastered collection on PS3 now), or just get God of War 3. I had no problems jumping straight in at GoW 3 though.
If you like adventure games, maybe Heavy Rain. I loved it, but I guess its the sort of game that wont appeal to everyone. Its a more dramatic story and not really an action oriented game, but it was awesome imo.
God of War series, Uncharted series, Dragon's Dogma, Assassin's Creed series, Dantes Inferno, Dark Souls and Demons Souls are all the games I own on my PS3. Still have yet to finish any of them as I don't play my PS3 as much as I use it for streaming, but its nice to have that fall back.

you may get these as free dlc with the game. i got karkand with my 360 version. you get a code to dl them.
out of curiosity why did you get bored with the 360?
shame about that, lots of good titles on 360. but from what I've seen PS3 is just as good and exclusvies are rare. do you get Gears of War onPS3? that is a good game.
Bf3 actually lends itself to being ok on a controller, better than most other fps titles. I got given it for free and was surprised how much I enjoyed it given I'd normally only play fps on the pc. I played many hours of it.
Also uncharted and as khel said 2 is best. Gow3 too is a no brainer.
