So i just got another of those scam telemarketers telling me my PC was infected by a virus.

I was told to download a remote access program from www.ammyy.com

I kept em talking for about 15mins while i played games but couldnt think of anything to say to fuck with them.

Ideas for next time?

I had them call me again the other night, I just hung up as soon as they said microsoft support. I had fun toying with them the first time but got over it after that. I was sitting in front of my Ubuntu box with one of their calls letting them try and walk me through diagnosing whether my copy of XP was infected.

I vote you have a fresh blank XP Virtual Machine isolated from your network handy.

Immediately say, "Excellent, I've been waiting for the call back for days. Should I give you my credit card details?" straight up and see what happens.

Same here, I'm on no private network or anything. I once got a call from a telemarkter on my mobile, was very sneaky as they started off saying "Is Sarah there?" and when I answered no they then when on to say "oh sorry then, wrong number, but are you interested in blah blah anyway".

You know, just once I would love to see an instance of this scam where the user somehow had hold of the call-center scammers credit card number, and gave that, so they charged it for all kinds of things.

The hilarity of them then trying to chargeback everything would be great, if you could see the aftermath.

kept one of them on the phone for almost 2 hours a while back... started slipping all sorts of horrid things of a murderous and sexual nature into our conversation... would keep giving them half of a made up credit card number then stopping and saying 'I'm really not sure if I should be giving this out over the phone' and they would start the spiel all over again lol

I picture it going like this:

them: hello sir/madam I am from tech support, we have detected your computer has a virus
user: wow, a virus? really? good thing you're on the ball. how can I fix it?
them: well first I need you to open windows
user: all of them? it's winter, and cold, if I open all my windows then I too will have a virus
them: no, your computer windows
user: my computer is solid steel, there's no windows in it. I don't need to see what's in there
them: ok on your desktop you should see "my computer", I need you to..... *interrupted by user*
user: why would your computer be on my desk? are you suggesting I've stolen your computer? I'm insulted.
them: *beep beep beeep beeep beeep*

Last time I got one of these idiots I just said "are you aware what you're doing right now is illegal and you are breaking the law" and they immediately hung up.

Me: Nope not there.
them: Are you sure you are on the desktop?
Me: Positive
them: Have you hidden your start bar?
Me: No its at the top
them: Then start should be in the top left corner.
