LNP giving "mates" favor, has the corruption started?

This might be more a faceman type post, but it looks like clive palmer is been able to challenge his speeding ticket and the LNP is ordering the police to allow it

http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2012/05/30/420071_crime-and-court-news.html

I have a few issues with this,

1) it has past the 28 days in which you can challenge offence

2) it is $333, the fine is no doubt alot less the the lawyer he pays

3) if he does get the fine overturned, we the tax payer will have to pay that stupid lawyer (if he is awarded costs)

4) the government shouldn't have even gotten involved in a simple matter like this, and there should be a review on that!

This isn't the first "mates" favour he's done so far.
I'm guessing he owes a lot of people, those 10 metre tall anti-ALP posters in Ashgrove weren't cheap.

1) Misuse of power by the LNP government.
2) What judge is going to accept this? Clive will get spanked like a naughty boy in a court.
3) This sets a precedent. Will it be allowed for all or is it just for Clive?

Looks all chummy on the outside but if I fucked up like Clive has I would just accept whatever penalty and move on. Taking it in to court is bad publicity not to mention a judge tearing you a new one is bad all round.

A spokesman for Transport Minister Scott Emerson last night said it was his understanding the matter had been referred to the State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER) under the normal process of dealing with unpaid fines.

There is no suggestion that Mr Palmer sought a favourable decision from the Government.

Barrister Joseph Crowley said there were provisions to appeal against a fine that had been referred to SPER, based on "exceptional" circumstances.

"This is not unprecedented, but it is highly unusual," Mr Crowley said. "There is provision for it in the legislation."

Seems like a non-story. Of course it's not usual, most people don't have billions and 6 figure lawers on retainer.
People with money to fight charges, fight charges. News at 11.

The ABC is reporting about some kiddie games being played in parliament. With abbot and some other guy bolting for the door because Thomson was going to vote for them, or something.

Anyway, apparently it is the rules that if someone can get out of the room in time his vote is negated. I, and I'm sure many of you, have seen very similar rules for games children make up in the playground of primary school. Gives me awesome feelings that our country is being run bound on rules that children make up.

While the LNP might like his money, I'm pretty sure most of the party view him as some sort of insane liability. He didn't win any friends when he announced that he wanted to run against Swan.

Pyne should have realised poodles have little legs and he wouldn't have made it to the door. Abbott on the otherhand bodysurfed a wave which dumped him out the door and it took ages to find his budgie smugglers amongst the foam.

I'd say it was more of a case of "Abbott getting some of his own shit thrown back".

I suppose if you're going to be a turd and throw around turds then expect it to rain turds and on occasion misplace your umbrella.

Obviously it's the former Bligh Labor government's fault that Clive Palmer has to put up with a 28 day limit to pay his fine, and the Newman LNP government will rectify this oversight in due course.

wait, when the players get to decide the rule of the game? who is responsible for the childish games they play? considering these idiots make the rules its entirely appropriate to blame them.

there's actually a damned good reason that the Federal Opposition didn't want to gain an advantage by having Craig Thomson voting with them against the Government.
i'd love to hear a GOOD reason, there are a few reasons, none of them good, most of them subvert the entire point of a representative democracy to maintain party power.

If Campbell wanted to look after his alleged friends in the development world, he sure as hell wouldn't have removed the ULDA's planning powers today.

There is no GOODreason.
There is a political point scoring might look good in the papers reason.

Australian politics is such a pile of horseshit now. People don't vote for good legislation. They vote yes or no based on who had the idea.

lol lol.

To paraphrase Anna Burke, Deputy Speaker, the whole theory of accepting or negating a vote is a fallacy and is nonsense.

They had to run out because they backed themselves into a corner and couldn't be seen to support Craig Thompson's vote when they've been calling out the Government for "accepting" his vote.

don't forget the millions upon millions of union donations that have funded the ALP since its inception and the Union domination of the ALP organisation which has driven the ALP legislative agenda the whole time it has been in government.

the complainers make clive sound like a trailblazer. the Australian union movement runs the ALP both financially and organisationally.

Palmer has absolutely no organisational or policy power in the LNP. So which party is actually controlled by external forces.....

infi, labor has been a union movement since the start, they are kinda the "labor" party, and unions are there to help the people, and the "laborers"

so it's ok for labor to be run by a corrupt union movement of people who are not ACTUALLY ELECTED to the ALP (remember that, the union officials are not elected politicians) and that bears no semblance of a transparent organisation - in fact less transparent than any ASIC regulated businesses.

BUT, it is so wrong for businesses to donate to the liberal party? wtf?

as to the palmer issue and the traffic appeal, does anyone have any evidence of anything besides a 250 word newspaper article?

there is nothing wrong in donating till the cows come home.

there is something wrong with donating to a political party in an effort to lobby for laws to be or not be passed to suit individual agendas at the expense of everyone else.

otherwise you have the farcical state of affairs that exists in america which is a plutocracy in all but official name.
