Well put.
That being said there's still some flair in the game (which was the HUUGE draw card when I was watchin it as an early teen.)
A lot of other sports have become very clinical and let too many rules ruin the game. For the most part when the NBA 'gets its flow on' it's still a shit load of fun to watch. (much the same reason I love Rugby Union... when the ref 'isn't playing' that game is unmatched for flow)
That Dominique Wilkins vid is awesome, sure the 'dunk competition' hits he had were good (like the 'self alley-oop' off the backboard) but the big dunks during games is where it's at.
Yeah agreed. Hand checked etc make for some very slow games but man you'd gotta respect guys over came that and still able to score a massive amount like MJ etc. But I think fundamentally "older" NBA (90's-00's) were just more disciplined, players roles were more fixed.
People say these days athletes are stronger & bigger and faster etc but mentally and fundamentally I think they're slower to developed than the old NBA. May be I'm just an old fart....... I enjoyed current NBA but man I _really_ enjoyed the old NBA.
Anyway, looking forward to the Spurs v OKC series!
