The announcement of Rayman Legends -- another upcoming Ubisoft game designed by Beyond Good and Evil Michel Ancel -- was terrific news for fans of the acclaimed Rayman: Origins, but seemed to be another sign of postponement for those holding out for the long-promised BG&E sequel.

However, a French interview with Ancel out of the recent Toulouse Game Show (via: Kotaku) confirms that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in active development, but explains that it needs better tech than is currently available -- reiterating previous comments that we won't be seeing it until the next console generation.

Users on the always resourceful NeoGAF forums have translated the relevant excerpts:
...we don't say 2013 because we don't know when it will come. We're working to create a great game and it needs more tech

...We focus on the game. We create it first, then we'll see what can run it
We'd be willing to bet that whatever their ambitions, there's plenty of PCs out there that could already run it. At least it's still happening, albeit not until the expected late 2013 next-gen console launch at the absolute earliest. Watched the leaked 2009 concept trailer for a refresher.
