Nice alternative to a NAS if you're just looking for storage only.

Or you can buy four and stick them in a microserver for a whopping 16TB of storage - around 11TB in RAID5.

Interesting, I think I would pay extra and stick with Hitachi if going 4Tb for now though, my 3Tb Hitachi's have been rock solid where as my last batch of Seagates had firmware issues which caused them to drop out of my array at random.... paaiinnnful.

fuck yeah!!! I've been trying to buy a 3TB goflex on ebay to get the hard drive out of it, but all the idiots keep bidding up the value that it is at the shop...
I'd need 3 though, two to run in a mirror, plus a backup
how long till umart gets it though, would be better
I've read bad things about the goflex controllers, they start to.. smoke...

Price isn't everything. Look at the user reviews from your link. 26% of people gave it 1 star - many quoting severe problems, instability and compatibility problems.

Good luck to anyone who decides to buy one. I feel sorry for anyone who buys 4 as suggested ...

Aren't the conpatibilty problems to do with the 4KB sector size these drives now use?

A lot of the reviews aren't even for the 4TB version. And most of the negative comments are pretty much MAC users.

And then there are reviews like:
Actual available space on the drive is around 2.7 TB, which is less than what is claimed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 3 TB supposed to mean 3 TB, not 2.7?

I am pretty convinced the caddy/base/software that come with this are a pile of shit. The drive inside should be OK if you know what you're doing, but removing it voids warranty :/
Might wait till 4TB internal drives are more competitive.

This is where I'm at...

I popped out 2x 3TB WD drives and bought my other two Hitachi 3TB's as 'raw' 3.5" disks...

It kinda bugs me that the external prices are so much cheaper than the internals... (seems a trend to have stuck since the price hike)
