PM me for the invite code (so we don't get every random that finds this thread on goole joining)
have a good think about if you're actually keen to tip for the season and will stick the whole thing out rather than half the twats that join each time and then stop after 2 weeks
IN a major threat to rugby league's new independent commission, the 16 NRL clubs will sign legal documents tomorrow to form their own association.
The game's most powerful club official, Roosters chairman Nick Politis, will host a meeting of the club chairmen and their legal advisers in the Roosters boardroom to sign the documents - just hours before the official NRL season launch at its new Moore Park headquarters and only 10 days after the body was formed.
The Daily Telegraph has obtained a 39-page document which is to become the constitution for the organisation to be known as the Australian Professional Rugby League Clubs Association Limited.
if you finish 8th and are good enough to win the comp then you should be good enough to beat the team that finished 1st
Finish 8th, win your first final and you get a home final.
Nobody deserves a reward for winning/losing 50% of their games.
Its very hard to make the top 4 and those teams deserve a reward.

cringe
agree
i like the top 5 system of old.
This is the next best thing.
Saying that I like the system of the last few years.
I think the team which performed best in finals goes through. If you are a consistant performer then you deserve a second grab if you have an off week.
I look at finals as sudden death. The lucky part if you have been a consistant performer all year sudden death means you may get a presidential pardon if you slip up early on.
Even when the Warriors who made it late last year.
They didn't take the title but they played FINALS FOOTBALL. and deserved to have a crack. (tigers supporter and still shatterred with that weird game.)
Sure its a week to week game. Its about the season performance....to get there.
Once finals start you may as well reset and rethink and retrain and re-strategise.
Its like having two seasons in one. Coaches and players talk about making the finals. Some teams half way through start talking about finishing top4.
If you are good enough to finish above the cut then you are good enough to win it.
If you don't post in this thread you can't play tips SPOOK>!>!>!>
Looking forward once again to the NRL tipping thread being the dominant qgl thread of the year for 3-4 years consecutive. Pretty much shows that NARRRELL is the sport to watch.
Season starts mar 1st with newcastle v st george and pazza v broncs.
i love the start of the season. this will be the first year in a long time i won't be sitting down to Friday night football and beers for the opener. someone hit me up with a stream please before kick off.
so site is marked and without spook around the rest of you should quit now i've go it wrapped up this year!
The Bundy NRL Tipping has a STRONG policy regarding abusive, inappropriate and/or offensive behaviour and language posted by participants, and Leagues may be monitored at random. Any reported behaviour deemed as offensive or abusive may result in an immediate dismissal from the Competition without further explanation, at the complete discretion of the Competition's organisers. We encourage you to report offensive behaviour at any time.
yeah i know, i dont know if i can commit to it.
Won a comp around 5 years ago beat over 50 ppl but i spent so much time studying teams it kind of got too serious.
but i read the match report and watched the highlight reel. looked like a messy game.
will be at about 35,000 feet somewhere between Abu Dhabi and Brisbane for the next one so will have to wait for round 3 for my first fix. unless Broncs are a Sunday game next week?
Warriors looking good at the back end of the half. Shaun Johnston is a superstar, everyone seems to hang off him. Hopefully he stays injury free and puts on a show week in week out!
trying to read thread without vomitting from manly froth
it was a good game, about 5 times better than the grand final
that konrad hurrell and that other big unit with the fuzzy hair the warriors have from their toyota cup team from last year were just steam rolling everyone
heh I was only just saying that to my mate, Konrad Hurrell is going to be a massive unit and key player for them, he was smashed through tackles all game.
The problem with the Warriors is they do stupid shit miles away from the try line.
I bet they spend most of their practice at the try line trying to break through defence and spend no time practising how to get there in the first place so they just play like the try line is 10m in front of them the whole game.
if there is one team that know how to lose a game from am unlosable position, it is the rabbits
heardy with his usual early jags for the seasonlast edited by paveway at 21:04:54 05/Mar/12
i believe its the Tigers who take that title.
the only thing that balances them out (and gives me a heart attack each week) is the Tigers ability to return the favour.
Margin is how closely you picked the score difference in the eliminator and one team tip comps. Lower is better. Mine is 0 because I correctly tipped the broncos to win by 12.
CML is Cumulative, or total.
edit: Oh, the normal tipping has it too. same as above, but everyone margins the same game each week. It's used as a tie breaker.
It would be a brave man who tipped the Cowboys tonight.
Good 2nd game too tonight, Manly Vs Wests
I think Manly will win but Wests are capable of doing them.
Spoiler: WTF Tait ran in to the fullback and wasnt even looking at the ball should have been a penalty RIPPED OFF somethin' shockin'
corey norman was good at 5/8
Bonus whinge: thurston to Bowen try was forward pass
have to admit Hadley did a good call then again there wasnt and Sydney Clubs playing.
I think not giving a penalty when thaiday had the ball ripped out by that CUNT being all in his face with his knees was total bullshit, changed the course of the game.
thurston failed at 5/8
He is used to being first receiver. being 2nd on the ball then trying to play his standard game did nto work, was to slow, hence why bowen was playing more of a halves combo then a full back.
I think not giving a penalty when thaiday had the ball ripped out by that CUNT being all in his face with his knees was total bullshit, changed the course of the game.
Thaiday grabbed his leg to stand up and dropped the ball cold.
Broncos lost because they let past one of the softest try's I've seen in a long time. Bowen should not have been able to stroll over the line like that in the dying minutes of the game. Their defence wasn't anywhere near as good as it was last week, Cowgirls did not look like they were in good form at all and yet they were able to put so many points on the board.
Cowgirls didn't deserve to win with the way they played but the Broncos deserved to lose with their ordinary effort in defence.
Also, I don't like Brent Tate any more. He used to be one of my footy heroes as a younger bloke with his amazing try saving tackles in Origin and his work for the Broncos. Now he just seems angry and bitter all the time, the first tackle he did on Jack Reed with his elbow in his throat was what I'd expect from a mug like Bird or Ennis.
Campesi commits a proffesional foul to stop a certain try, how is that NOT a fucking 8 point try, that's bs. Then the Titans get denied another try, total bullshit.
Plus so many bad ref calls in this game, like zillman never dropped that ball, fucksake.
Yeah it's pretty awesome :)
I watched NRL on Fox last night, much better than I thought it would be. It's mix of different shows, Sunday Footy Show, The Roast and League Lounge. I enjoyed it compared to what's happened to the Sunday Footy Show/The Roast (well the Roast in particular).
So I'm not the best person for this Goss but I hear vossy got demoted for talking smack about rabs statue last year. I'm in UK but apparently he is calling Queensland cup for ch9 and the Sunday roast is shit now? Confirm deny
I heard a rumour that its included in the Footy Show but i find it difficult to watch the footy show for longer than 10-15 mins, my mind gets up and leaves the room.
WTF the Barefoot Footy Show on Auroura got cancelled :(
That show was really good and they only talked footy.
Faceman, they've integrated The Roast into The Sunday Footy Show. For example they'll do 30 minutes of Footy Show and then 20 minutes of Roast, go back to footy show to review other games..back to Roast, Roast sometimes includes Sunday panelists. Back to Sunday Footy show for a preview of the up coming games. Roast doesn't have anyone who was previously on the show, no TK, Voss, McGyer or Gould. The Roast is now a terrible show :(
I think its more to do with the team splitting, Gould to Panthers and McGyer to Fox Sports..no idea about TK and Vossy, although read above about Vossy giving rabs stick (no idea that happened) perhaps dropping him as well.
my first weekend back for the season and thought i'd settle down to some roast. got the shit that is the combined effort. no Geyer, Gould, TK, Voss, wtf!
i actually enjoyed Gould on this show along with the rest. sucks now.
Yeah I ended up watching Tigers v Dragons on NBN instead. The Broncos/Knights wasn't the best game but it just seemed a lot more boring than it actually was.
I hate Hadley but hes a better caller than Vossy but I like Vossys sense of humour. Hadleys voice is like a drill in your head. Its more like a Horse racing caller.
Lockyer sounds like a dirty phone caller.
Broncos blew a lot of points tonight.
Many of them seemed to be miles away.
How about Hannants chase on that try ?
hes a gutsy player.
How about Hannants chase on that try ? hes a gutsy player.
oh yeah...put him in my list also. great effort. Petro went ok also. we seem to have a really good mix this year but they can't afford to keep bombing tries like that. other teams will make them pay.
Lolz, 7/8 this week. missed out on the rabbits. was hoping the sharkies would show up tonight and fortunately they did. I hope they get back to their former glory.
Dragons are still a force, that loss to the bulldogs wasn't really season defining, you could tell they were off their game the whole night. Maybe they were trying new tactics out.
i think he will get exposed in defence though, couple of bits on the weekend he didn't look the goods when they were defending the try line
i agree. he's not familiar with it and is pretty huge these days so speed off the mark to get across an attack line with the Broncos young guns spinning it wide and using their pace will test him. He's no Slater!
Should be a good game I'm hanging out. It's first still on 9 right? that means it's being played about 5.30 WA time?
Broncos copped a lot of fucking TERRIBLE calls in the first half.. no way Reed should have gone for 10. Luckily souths pulled a .. souths and pretty much ran out of sting towards the back half of the game.
Also lol @ them not giving Inglis the 20 tap when it obviously bounced out and then back in again. #badrefs
Also lol @ them not giving Inglis the 20 tap when it obviously bounced out and then back in again. #badrefs
Not only that but Inglis had his foot over the line when he picked it up expecting it to be a 20m restart, so the Touch missed pretty much the whole thing. Probably the same Touch that made the horrible blocking call earlier.
I reckon Wallace might get an Origin spot if he keeps it up, which would be bad news for Broncos and Qld fans but he deserves it.
Souths should have won that game easily, they bombed so many tries.
Terrible Refereeing, that Jack Reed thing was amazing.
If they want the game to go to Perth Why start the game at 6pm local time when the crowd wants a 7pm kick-off ?
Answer: so 9 could show Broncos at 7:30, oh wait, the game didnt start till 8:05
I dont know how you are promoting a game when you pick a retarded kick-off time. Its bad enough the games arent shown until 1am local time.
I dont know who is making the NRL decisions but why are Souths and Brisbane playing in Perth. It should be one of the crappy teams that are likely to fold soon and move to Perth.
JESUS CHRIST PARRAMATTA ARE THE WORST TEAM EVER
I couldnt watch that game.
Souths should have won that game easily, they bombed so many tries.
Terrible Refereeing, that Jack Reed thing was amazing.
Reff should be hung for that shit decision. What a stupid fuck. And then there was the blocking a player BULL SHIT when the Bronco's player was watching the fucking ball. Jesus, get these shit refs back to reserve grade.
I dont know who is making the NRL decisions but why are Souths and Brisbane playing in Perth. It should be one of the crappy teams that are likely to fold soon and move to Perth.
I think you'll find it was Souths idea/decision to take one of their home games to Perth as it gives them a chance to build their brand while also selling out a stadium - making them more income. Bulldogs have taken home games (vs Cowboys or Titans)to Brisbane for similar reasons.
I reckon Wallace might get an Origin spot if he keeps it up, which would be bad news for Broncos and Qld fans but he deserves it.
Pearce has it stitched up - no chance. As a Broncos supporter I am selfishly glad he won't get the nod, as we will need him to lead the team when the rep season takes its toll on the team. What NSW wouldn't give for the QLD halves stocks at the moment though - Thurston, Cronk, Prince, DCE, etc.
As for Yow Yeh - god damn, that was sickening. Poor fella - hope he comes back stronger next year for it. I bet they are glad they have locked in Gagai now, as he will be playing for the rest of the year from the looks of it (potentially Copley, but I'd expect Gagai).
I bag Justin Hodges every week (and did on here last year to a wall of abuse) but full credit to him for the way he looked after Yow Yeh after the incident last night. That showed real care and maturity to step in and try to calm the situation down. When I did my shoulder last year the shock set in pretty quickly, and looking back I can see how important it was to have someone there to talk to me calmly, give me instruction, get me to concentrate on breathing, etc - which looked exactly like what Hodges did. Good on him...
...but he should still pass the f*ing ball more often!!!
we didn't play well tonight and made some dumb decisions.... St George played well and were smart.
Next week is Parra for us which is a massive danger game, they are 0-4 and need to win we are off the back of 2 losses so it's going to be interesting.
I tried to give the Sunday Footy show / Sunday Roast another chance yesterday...
:<
I have to say, the dynamics of the old team were so much better. As much as TK pissed me off at times, I kind of miss the chatter with him. Would like to see him give the Sharks some stick now =]
NRL on Fox (Now on Wednesday 8:30pm) is the next best option, and instead of TK giving it to the Sharks it's Matty giving it to the Warriors.
yeah i watched it yesterday too.
It was nothing like the Roast.
Theyve missed the point of The Roast and have instead tried to copy what Matty Johns did on his show.
Tk, MG, Vossy and Gould were hilarious.
and wtf is with Michael Slater on the show ?
Did he take the place that offered to matty johnns ?
Fatty looks awkward beside him.
whats up with Slaters Tan ?
looks like he went with '2mins to midnight in Barbados'
Hadley is terrible, I think he's still use to being on the radio (not that I listened to him) because he seems to describe every action even though you are seeing it.
yeah i watched the jets vs dolphins qcup match on sat arvo and vossy was commentating that. much more pleasant experience than listening to fucking hadley
I liked his calling the best and then there was some other wanker on the other night :( Gould and the other guy (who's been around for ever) just argue like a couple of grumpy old dickheads, I mean how the hell are they still teamed up in commentary? It's painful at times.
Then I saw Vossy calling the Dolphins and Ipswich game on Sunday arvo on channel 9.....
Rabbits( the old guy) and Gus are retards together.
Vossy is the voice of friday night football and rabbits suits the sunday Arvo games and origin.
Gus just needs to fuck off and die, hopefully he takes penrith with him .
Something happened between him and Ray Warren, so they dropped Vossy.
They didn't even call together?
Channel 9 piss me off with there shit.... I also thought Ikin was good a few years back until Channel 9 decided to screw him.
Vossy is still with Channel 9 as he was calling the game on Sunday arvo before the main 4pm match. There were like 60 spectators there, which was probably all family of the players lol
Cooper Cronk going to the Dragons on a 4 year contract, apparently he's been really distant from his teamates so it sounds like he is definitely moving on.
I say dragons. I don't think Titans would have that much room in their cap with the players they signed for this season and next. Plus, sif you would sign a massive contract with a club in so much financial strife. Only reason I could see him going to the Titans would to be closer to his family.
The Federal Government today approved the Nine Network’s request to broadcast specific 2012 NRL Telstra Premiership games on digital channel GEM in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and remote Central and Eastern Australia.
The network sought special dispensation from communications minister Stephen Conroy to remove the matches from the anti-siphoning list so they could be aired live on GEM rather than on delay on the main channel in the non-NRL States of Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and remote Central and Eastern Australia.
Anti-siphoning laws and regulations are designed to prevent pay television broadcasters from buying monopoly rights to televise important and culturally significant events before free-to-air television has a chance to bid on them. The theory is that if such a monopoly was allowed, then the poor would be unable to view the important and culturally significant events. Generally the laws allow pay-TV to bid for such monopoly rights only if free-to-air television has declined to bid on them. Anti-siphoning in the United States was introduced by the FCC in 1975 and was soon overturned as unconstitutional. Australia's Anti-siphoning laws were introduced in 1992 and remain in force to date. They also affect free-to-air digital-only services, and require that certain programmes be simulcast on analogue channels.
Thats where Private owners of a TV station get help from the Government to make even more money by locking up Sport and keeping it out of the hands of another Privately owned Network, Foxtel.
Then show it in Sub quality SD broadcasts, often delayed and interrupted by a gazillion commercials (that make money for the network).
Apparently he was disrespecting Ray, I had a link at home with some backstory..but at work and going off memory :O
Voss made fun of Rabb's statue which was organised by Ray Hadley and supported by the Channel 9 bosses. Hadley and Voss don't 'get on' so I think Nine are still a bit upset - rubbing Voss' face in it by replacing him with Hadley.
Hadley is painful, but not any worse than some of the other dead wood on that team.
A change in broadcaster rights or a complete clean out at 9 would be great. The Fox commentary team in general is top notch - much prefer watching those games. However Broncos are really ever not on channel 9.
Vossy has a huge knowledge of the game right down to the very junior levels, he's not just a commentator but really a massive rugby league fan.
I hope that Foxtel pick him up to do their games and then get him on NRL on Fox ..or something along those lines, perhaps do another Sunday Roast with Vossy, Matty Johns, Geyer and someone else!

this would be good.
Vossy would be perfect for NRL Tactics
Now imagine if Hadley was calling that game :[
Apparently he was calling Storm vs Knights on the radio.
I won't be watching any game called by Hadley now.
How was that first half by the Broncos, my mouth :O the whole first half
thank fuck hadley wasn't calling. as i've mentioned i realise now how much i miss vossy. despite his wankiness he can call a game with a level of excitement and knowledge that is good to listen to.
you won't be alone bu getting those 2 wrong, not a biggie. A few may have tipped sharks but no one but a die hard para fan would have tipped them over manly
I was already resigned to having a shit year this year with all the drama at the end of last season, but we'll see what happens at the end of the year.
We played like busteds today though :/
Getting so much grief from my mates who follow Parra.... lols
Wow some upsets though Manly were without Lyon, G Stewart, and that kiwi forward ?
Parra had Tonga and Hayne back.
I dont think parra will make the 8 but good to see the Club get some respect back, wasnt a pretty game.
wtf happened in the warriors game howd the Roosters beat them ?
i missed it >.<
dont want to go off topic too far but WTF has happened to the QLD Reds ?
Got flogged by the sandgropers last night 45-19 following last weeks absolute pasting in SA.

lets not talk about this please.
they need there big boy pants
Best Full Time so far this season, what a terrible game. Parra v Newc
agreed........would have rather seen raider v warrior i think. i gave up anyway before 1/2 time and watch some of Wrestlemania 28....yep that's how bad it was.
Why is Knights V Dragons on again on Friday night?
Surely they can at least switch up the fucking nights they play on if they insist on having these two incredibly boring teams play each other again. At least they had the sense to put Knights vs Eels on Sunday arvo when we were all due for a nap anyway.
Broncos cant win without Wallace.
Thats why I tipped them because (nearly)everytime i tip the Broncos to lose they Win.
Wallace has played well this year but Broncos havent had trouble scoring. its been defense. If Ben Hunt can be at least as good as Wallace in defense Broncos should beat Canberra.
after rereading your last post faceman, do you actually even watch the broncos play?
Their defence has been what has winning them games this year, their set play attack has looked shit at times which is understandable with the retirement of the great man
they have been scoring a lot of points from far out through line breaks and offloads
Saints got 20+ points on them 2 weeks ago in the 2nd half.
yeah Broncos did alright after a sluggish start, Canberra handed it to the Broncos though. They were pretty ordinary. Broncos could have easily scored a few more.
I dont know that they missed Wallace.
Saints got 20+ points on them 2 weeks ago in the 2nd half.
they dropped in intensity, they were completely fucked at one point all walking with hands on hips 10 mins into the second hald after playing that first half at such a quick pace. once griffin got petero and hannant and thaiday back out there they picked it up
that game was always bound to even up
the broncos defence is as good as it has ever been, lockyer knows it too
Was my worst week, went for a couple of upsets and despite it being a week of upsets I failed miserably at picking the right ones, 3/8.
Gould was mumbling about Hayne possibly needing knee surgery a week or so ago. He's definitely an Origin player but no way should he be in the halves. Perhaps they don't think he gets enough football at fullback because the rest of the team is so shit at getting the ball in the opposition half?
Anyone read this at all? *it's an old article
Excluding the pokie rant, I like it!
Alot of the time I don't agree with Phil Gould, but when he is not talking up penrith/nsw like they are the dominant forces in the game he has some good points.
I like his idea its very structured, and very well thought out. For those who no like clicky click link linky.
Phil has proposed the following.
Toyota Cup and U20s seasons will follow same structure. ie, U20s SOO>Toyota Cup SOO>NRL SOO on the same night.
-NRL Season goes for 22 rounds with a 4/5 week finals berth.
--Rounds 1 - 11
-4 week mid season break. During break, Representative football is played and a Mid season knockout cup is played with a cash prize. Players with rep honors cannot play in this cup.
--Wk 1 - SOO 1 - Rnd 1 Knockout Cup, only winners progress, 16 Teams
--Wk 2 - SOO 2 - Rnd 2 Knocout Cup, 8 Teams
--Wk 3 - SOO 3 - SF Knockout Cup, 4 Teams
--Wk 4 - AUS V NZ - Final Knockout Cup.
NRL Season returns for weeks 12-22
September comes, Standard Finals are played out.
After finals, another Rep period for Triseries/World Cup etc.
I Like this idea but would add one thing.
Currently we have trial matches per-season which don't count for much.
I would like to a see a World Club Challenge Knockout. Top 4 NRL vs Top 4 Super League.
There are too many teams.
I actually see more teams ahead with a possible 1 game against each team then finals. 20 teams, the NRL may like that because they could create some space in the season for Origin/Tests.
Comp should split in two or be reduced to 12 teams.
But 6 games a week is not as lucrative as 8 games. $$$
It is just too risky to change it now because The AFL may get a leg up.
The AFL has had a leg up on League for the past decade. Not that I support it as much as I do League but it has its supporters, some clubs reaching 50,000 members
I'm trying to work out why Canberra v Sharkies are both paying $1.90.. surely the Raiders should be paying $2.30+ with Campese out, even if they are playing at home? Is Duges expected back this week?
Honestly the only real criteria should be either a) Where you were born or b) Where you've lived most of your life. Also the switching allegiances thing is absurd, once you've chosen which country you want to play for (if you have a choice) that should be it, if you fall out of favour/form etc. then tough shit.
South Sea islander players should be allowed in the Kiwi side.
Maybe not call it the Kiwi side.
Such a side would love to kick NSW or QLD ass.
Origin is the biggest game of all.
You cant have a situation where some players can never play it.
Having a combined south sea islands team would still keep the Kiwi as a Test nation.

You say NZ would love to kick QLD/NSW arse? wtf?
I have an crazy idea, what if we combine those two teams into some sort of national side? and get NZ to play them!
What your proposing doesn't even make sense. NZ is not a state. If there would ever be a 3rd team inclusion, making it a tri-state competition it would be Victoria, and even then that is laughable. It will always be QLD V NSW, anything less/more would not be SOO, even if it carried the same name.
Let us think about the series in which is the pinnacle of league.
State of Origin. The way you should be selected to play for is right in its name.
State of Origin, The state in-which you originated in. (in the form of your League career)
Slater's Career originated in QLD.
Uates's Career originated in NSW.
If you playing career originated in NZ for the vulcans or who ever. Then I'm sorry but you cant play SOO or for Australia.
QLD vs NSW vs NZ.. why didn't we think of this earlier!!
Oh wait we did, it was created when Super league was around. How'd that go again?
What is up with the anzac test now on the verge of being scrapped? Someone correct me but I heard on radio this morning that the players are having a whinge about this. You are paid to play a sport, shut the fuck up and play.
All these "rules" which allow players to pick and choose who they play for is ridiculous. If you were born in NZ, you only get to play for NZ you can't play for australia or an Origin team. Same goes for aussie players who are playing in the NZ team. I don't care where your mum, dad, aunty, great uncles mothers brothers sons daugther was born.
If you were born in Kazikstan and played footy here, you can't play Origin or for Australia.
parra worst start to a season since JFK was President. 60s ?
WTF did Sandow play in the Sydney Premier League last week ?
Are he and Kearney having a battle of wills ?
Parra are easily the worst Club so far
-137 for and against, thats 70 points worse than 2nd last side(Titans)
its not a bad side Parra so you have to ask is the coach to blame ?

they are a great team on paper but you need all players to be playing not just there, I feel sorry for hindmarsh, he gives it is all every game, if you watch he press conferences he is very disappointed in his side.
Kearney is and never will be head coach material. Parramatta and Raiders are the same where the board need to be thrown up and start from scratch.
As Timmeh said, I feel so bad for Hindmarsh. He's been a one club man who's given his all for the team. It's sad to know he'll end his career on a low.
Jesus fucking christ the refs are doing everything they can to get tigers to beat the titans, so many FUCKING TERRIBLE DECISIONS FROM THE CUNT REFS!!@WE!@$EQ@WE
A fucking sinbin for that? FUCK OFF! Robbie farrah fucking missed it! If he'd got the ball it'd be a try saving tackle FOR FUCKS SAKE YOU CUNT REFS FUCKASFDCWESJKFPO:JGAWE:LFJVWESNL:fg3yw '
Apparently Nathan Friend played the Warriors v Broncos match with a broken jaw.
Warriors hooker Nathan Friend is expected to be out of NRL action for six weeks after breaking his jaw in the 30-20 win over Brisbane in Auckland on Saturday night.
Friend suffered the injury after five minutes, but refused to come off, playing on until the end and pulling off 53 tackles
Jesus its hard to listen to the Auckland home games, I cant cop the Kiwi accent. I ended up turning off the sound.
I think the Broncos played well against a very good Warriors side.
I thought the Warriors were hot at the start of the season but recently had dropped off the pace. Walker was a big loss, if he'd stayed maybe the Broncos could have got home.
You dont lose many games when you score 20 points.
OMG that Titans game had some appallingly bad calls.
I dont know if the Gold Coast has a future.
I wouldnt be surprised to see the team move to Suncorp as a rebadged 2nd Brisbane team. Maybe Taylor will bring the crowds in.
Maybe they could call themselves the Gold Coast Bikies.
ride into the stadium on harleys.
I heard he wants to go to titans but his manager is consulting them and the nrl to get some financial guarantees. Also south's signed Ben teo :-(
Taylor has signed to Titans for 4 years starting 2013, he is trying to back out of it.
PRIZE Gold Coast recruit Dave Taylor is examining his options after revelations his new club could collapse under a $35 million debt.
The Queensland Origin forward will hold talks this week with his manager to discuss the validity of the four-year, $1.8 million contract he agreed with the Titans last week,
As part of the bid to make the game more valuable, the NRL approached Channel 9 about introducing mandatory ad breaks during games, a proposal Nine has distanced itself from.
"The NRL have discussed various means of providing extra breaks but that's a matter entirely for the NRL," Channel 9 managing director Jeff Browne said.
Fuck!
I hope they go open market on their asses, Nines coverage is appalling. The only problem is that I think if they go open market there will be even more concessions given. On the other hand it will be a huge blow to Nines investment in NRL so it might make them reconsider their position a bit and have them come begging back.
i saw that news story, NRL rates better than AFL.
They'll get a billion.
With The NBN games can be live into homes all over Australia.
Clubs need to be prepared to move out of Sydney into new Markets.
AFL has Perth Adelaide Brisbane Sydney and the home Melbourne
NRL has to get teams into Perth and Adelaide.
Grow the market.
It's tricky, I've read that people have been complaining about Channel 7's coverage of the AFL. I don't think the NRL is going to get anywhere near those numbers that the AFL got. They got pretty lucky I think.

yea weren't people complaining because they channel 7 commentators stop talking during the ad breaks/after a goal. Because fox footy have no ads.
^ Haha we get that with NRL sometimes on friday night games. Because we get the CH9 feed through sky which has no ads. One time Brad Fitler is like ''maybe he should harden the fuck up'' when some player was injured. Was funny as Vossy trying to tell him to stop.
Yeah I don't think it's the week to week coverage that bothers me so much, more so their appalling Origin coverage where they cut to ad at every opportunity on account of the huge ratings and big buckets of money they get every time they squeeze in another ad during that time.
I think if NSW lose again it might just kill Phil Gould, judging by his rapid deterioration over the last few years.

however i am not very confident, ben hunt needs to stop trying to pull benji marshall shit while playing number 7.
it was clear when they played the raiders without wallace that norman was the shot caller, but last weekend when wallace went off and hunt took over he comlpetely fucked that game and didn't pass the ball
could have been 10 or 8 or 6 points ahead when they scored that last try
just the psychological edge going it at half time up rather than going in down
oh well we still smashed the shit out of manly, take the score out of it and they were pretty average really, i am looking forward to repaying in kind when we come to brookvale
That time Parker spent with Daryl Halligan recently doesn't seem to have paid off.
Everyone at Suncorp was on the edge of their seats until Williams went over in the corner. :(
Broncos fans seemed to want to go drown their sorrows because a massive chunk of the crowd disappeared for the Titans/Bulldogs in the double header.
and 1 of them was one of those ones it was like from right in front of one of the posts. ie. should be kicked everytime still would have put it into golden point
didnt see that game, why has he got vaseline all over the back of his legs?
also been some good games this tonight, warriors vs roosters was back and forth the lead changed about 4 times and the knights were competitive with the cowboys for most of that game but the cows come away with it in the last 15 or so plus a jag try at the end
Apparently the idea behind the vaseline is that when they tackle you they get it on their hands and then have trouble catching the ball, according to what Gould said anyway.
If that's the case it's tantamount to ball tampering IMO.
If it's allowed to continue I can just see this evolving into a greased pig contest. Hell why stop a vaseline? Put on a full body wetsuit when you are on attack and douse yourself in super glue so you'll never drop the ball and can get holding down in the tackle penalties.
I think the main problem is players suffering a concussion then getting a 2nd blow not long after. The NRL has introduced a checklist now where players with head injuries have to go through tests leading up to the following game to make sure there is no lingering after effects.
It's is area of sport that you can't predict, there are so many variables involved(was t intentional, did the player fall into it) so implementing a solution like helmets will change the game, less spatial awareness etc. targeting the head is illegal and penalties are given to those who are guilty . Even if you didn't mean it. Reports are for that.
I always wore headgear when I played league.
It's not limited to league either, just last week I was concussed after taking a cricket ball to the head at indoor.
you were concussed by an indoor ball? who was bowling, brett lee?
are you sure you were actually concussed, rather than just had a sore head?
I was fielding yellow line (half way between silly mid and mid on ).
Ball was cracked straight to me, stuck my hand out to catch it, hit my hand and hit me in the temple area. kept playing.
got home threw up and went to bed.
My finger hurt more then my head did.I went to the doctor the next morning and he told me i had a minor concussion and that i shouldn't of driven home, and to take the next 3 days off.
ahh yeah, fair enough, i copped it a bit fielding close in when i played indoor too. never wore any in the head though, always body or getting hands caned. after a few seasons though we lost our sweeper and keeper so i ended up either keeping or right up the back, worked out for me :)
The 4 Corners show was good. Its on the 4 corners website.
3 weeks needs to be set aside for players severely concussed.
The bit about players having poor games after knocks was interesting.
The NRL needs to take action right now starting with removing shoulder charges.
That shot on Thurston could have left him screwed up for the next two games.
cheap shots deserve a lot longer suspensions.
The NRL need to address this, there has been some shocking hits over the last two seasons, i think Commentators need to tone it down a bit too. Getting excited about players suffering brain damage is going to drive parents away from the game.
I wonder how many ex-players are diagnosed with dementia or similar ?
Because the truth can only be uncovered after looking at their deceased brains.
they had that AFL guy on Sunday Night a few weeks back, he was all vague and no memory, maybe from too many headknocks ?
Remember that Martin Lang ? johnny Langs son ? he was constantly getting knocked out.
just watching footy show and they showed footage from both state of origin camp with tallis and johns just asking questions in their respective states camps
you can't even tell the qld guys don't play together week to week they get on so well, it's was so much more awkward in the nsw camp.
It is pretty tough for the nsw team from the get go constantly picking a different team each game
Rep players aren't playing this weekend but how about next weekend? It's always interesting tipping around Origin, some teams you expect to completely fall over still manage to perform.
I tipped Rabbitohs simply because of how reliant the Dragons are on their forwards but Soward sure was fired up about not even being mentioned as a possible NSW selection :P
I got the first two tips wrong though, I figured both the Warriors and Panthers would be the least affected this weekend but I forgot that they still suck massive balls even with all their players on the field.
I missed out on getting my tips in on time (Diablo 3 lol..now bored of it). I've got all my tips right so far, would have got the Tigers too if I put my tips in on time :\
Tipped the Sharks tonight despite them not having Carney and Gallen. If you watched the Sharks/Storm game, Robson was a bigger factor than Carney in that game. Only hit to Canterbury is Josh Morris playing for NSW.
The worst part about Hadley is how he makes calls on shit he knows nothing about.
"Oh he should have passed it out wide there", "I don't think he should have kicked it there, that was a bad decision"
He is almost always wrong when he says shit like that with the actual football expert like Sterlo or Wally having to point out why the professional player made the move he made. Someone needs to tell Hadley to shut up and just give us the name of the player that has the ball and who he is passing it to, leave the analysis to the people who know what they are talking about.
thang fug qld were the away team on wednesday night i didnt realise we had to tip it but i get the correct type as it defaults to the away team if you dont tip a game
Fucking Broncos, I thought they'd be less affected by Origin and had the best chance to beat the Storm but Thaiday and Hodges showed what a huge bunch of pansies they are by hiding under blankets the entire game.
they were there for most of that game, a few tries at the end blew the score out.
i dont understand why we have to keep playing the storm of all the teams in the nrl straight after origin, i know it was the same time last year and i am pretty sure it was the same the year before
every origin player who has backed up has had fucking blinder of a game this weekend, and here we are resting players. i fully understand why and it does pay off later but it is really tough watching games like friday night with cronk/slater/smith just carve up an under strength broncos team 2 days after origin
Faceman continues his chartbusting climb up the ladder bursting into the Top 10 this week at
#9
There must be some very nervous tippers looking over their shoulder.
dirty on the titans tip i messed up and brain snapped yesterday and changed to the warriors before the game, warriors have had a good run against the storm (until this year it seems)
oh no.........he as slipped past me. dirty vb drinking southsider. i want him swabbed.
hey was that you on tv at the lions game? had a no sleeve old fitzroy jersey on? celebrating madly after the last goal? sure looked like you........epic game.
YaY!
Great news for the game as it means a new direction and a better product can be offered for the next TV deal/rights.
This is prolly bad news for a few Sydney Clubs as Gallop was firmly behind retaining all the current Sydney Clubs. I suspect this is the main reason for him going 'suddenly.'
I heard a rumour that the ARLC wants to bring back reserve grade.
Scrapping the Toyota Cup which is an abysmal comp.
Yeah definitely get rid of Toyota Cup, I enjoyed some of the reserve grade comp games. I think one of the main reasons they got rid of the reserve grade comp is that they can only play a certain amount of games (3 i think) on game day on fields.
Knights v Canberra and Sharks v Titans are my biggest question marks.
Knights v Canberra is like picking the fastest dead snail, both teams suck balls and I don't care who wins. Knights will suck a little harder then normal without a few players but will they suck hard enough to out suck Canberra?
You'd think the Sharks would be in trouble without both Gallen and Carney but the Titans have lost 4 from their front row with Bailey out injured and their Origin players played a big role in their win last round.
I think for the rest everyone will go Tigers, Broncos, Warriors. Then again I'm right on the bottom of the tipping comp so I'm probably wrong.
Knights need to start thinking about dumping Bennett.
They were an absolute disgrace last night.
Three thrashings in three weeks and Buderus played last night, still couldnt save them.
I reckon they will go inglis to fullback, that is what I would do anyway. Tate into the centres with Ash Grtaham onto the wing because of the cowboys combo. Or you could chuck in any number of centres/wingers.
CARNEYYYYYYYYYY
brung the sharkies home last night, was a good game.
Pathetimatta were at their best, 5 times this year they have scored only 6 points.
Bit of a dodgy game last night though the Broncos out-muscled Souths.
In the 2nd game they were talking about how the special ball being used was a bit lighter than the regular ball, might explain the sloppy start to the game. Inglis put up two monster bombs, didnt know he could kick.
Inglis was pretty good at fullback but I think hes better at Centre, if Bowen has a big game against the Raiders he should make it.
Saints Vs Titans was a snoozefest.
Very small crowd considering Saints dont play there all the time at Wollongong.
The EEL has landed.
Parra had a win in extra time after scoring two tries in the final 10 mins and sandow kicked the field goal with only seconds of extra time left.
Storm got robbed of a try then finished off by a Ben Barber MEGA-TRY
Barber was good today, gonna be a tough decision for fullback, whens the Origin Team picked ?
The NSW 19-man squad to take on Queensland on July 4 at Suncorp Stadium:

The Game Plan should have been called the Sydney Rugby League show.
Gambling ads are to curbed on League/AFL telecasts
"Broadcasters have agreed to amend their existing codes of practice to restrict live odds promotion, including by banning sporting commentators from mentioning live odds and banning all live odds promotion during play,” he said.
But odds could still be advertised before the game and at half and quarter times, but not by commentators.
i have a suspicion there is a little hoodoo forming with the raiders in melbourne, they destroyed the storm in melb last year if i recall correctly. And i believe going into that game last year they had beaten them the time before that in melb or something
probably just coindidence, not that it really matters the raiders will probably go and get demolished the next 3 weeks
big matches on this weekend Brisbane over NZ Canterbury to beat Paramatta Manly to obliterate Newcastle North QLD to continue Melbourne's losing streak Wests to beat Penrith Canberra over Gold Coast Cornulla over St George and Souths to beat City
to be fair, they were pretty shit for a big part of that game, got away to a good start and then got almost beaten and needed that effort to get over the line
Inglis was outstanding last night.
Bulldogs Vs Rabbitohs Grand Final Day.
You read it here.
Parramatta played their best game for years last night.
Its not Kearneys fault, there is an attitude problem at the Club that starts with the board and goes right down to the players.
If you were an Eels fan you'd be pretty angry that they dont put in that effort all season.
this penruff v chooks game is SHIT it's a drop-ball-a-thon add in the Gus factor and then the 4 million ads chan 9 put in their coverage is nearly enough for me to turn it off...
Its pretty sad watching the Foxtel uninterupted HD game at 2pm
then turning over to watch Lo-Fi SD 9 telecast with a million ads.
it feels like you watching it for 4 hrs rather than 2hrs.
Dragons Vs Storm will be a good game tonight.
Some problems with the Storm attack of late, theyve lost something like 4 of their past 5 games.
Surely the horseys can clean up Parramatta.
Apparantly NINE has had to lower the bitrate for the main channel whilst running the Olympics 3D channel so expect a shittier than usual telecast whilst the 'Games are on.
shocking decision at the end of the penrith cronulla game.
Warriors up 18-0 and lost again same as last week.
BARBER BARBER BARBER
Cowboys werent up to it and lost again in Sydney.
Should be a good game tonight, Broncos are without quite a few players, no Hodges, Parker, Reed, Hoffman? suspended.
Against a Parramatta side that last week were pretty awesome.
1st and only Monday night game for the Broncos for the season.
After that Bulldogs player that nearly decapitated Fui Fui got off scott free, I'm now convinced that Bulldogs are going to win the premiership this year. Especially considering all of the suspensions following like Hoffman's and G.I.'s.
Manly got the same preferential treatment last year by the refs, I wonder if it has something to do with Hassler.
Also very disappointed that I'm posting this and not Faceman, his game is slipping.
utterly fucking shit, the no lockyer effect has taken hold now.
norman is bordering on completely useless
wallace is trying hard (when he isn't getting tackled with the ball on 5th tackle) but 1 semi effective half in the side is always going to struggle
and as per the no lockyer effect the rest of the teams defense crumbles as well
don't want to go all faceman on this but i can really see them just falling straight out of the finals in week 1 if they don't work something out. i think griffin will get rid of norman before that happens though. but he can't be replaced with ben hunt there needs to be someone else put in there.
I dont know if its panic stations, Reed and Hodges are big losses.
Lot of players out, still, they are playing the last placed team, its very poor.
If they can get the full team on the field for the Semis they will give it a shake.
A few teams nipping at the heels of the top 8 have been showing form, Knights, Dragons and Tits and you can never rule out the Warriors or even the Tigers despite the last few weeks.
The Titans will have to play the Rabbits next week who are also in good form at the moment.
the only way they'll make the 8 is if none of the teams below them really step up and make a bid for it
i'd rather see them not make the 8 than try and play whatever it is they're trying to do at the moment in the finals
i don't really remember them slumping after origin, they struggle during origin because of players missed but they had a relatively successful time through origin this year winning enough games to keep them up in the top 4
The forwards are really flat and sluggish which is the crux of the problem. Probably because of origin, considering they used pretty much our whole front and second row.
TBH I haven't watched a game of NRL since origin 3 and before then I barely have been because of shitty timezones. NRL should be played kickoff at 4am AUST time imo :P
Anyway I have been hearing that our halves are shit now but we do have a few key injuries i guess...
Maybe they can get up for a big game against the dogs. sneaky tip someone do it !!!
i mean really, it's to big a season for tipsters, someone's got to look out for us. a full NRL round plus SOO in the middle, there's bound to be tipping fatigue.
I think the tipping comps need to take a long hard look at the way they run things
Man I have lost tipping confidence in the last few weeks. I have't watched a bloody game in ages but I judged my tips from reading the daily tele and the sydney morning herald and the roar online. But I think I am doooooooomed.
They need an "I have no idea" or "I don't care" option for some of those questions, like which AFL or Union player you'd like to see in NRL or who is the best club owner.
What are peoples predictions for top 8? Looking at the last 3 rounds I can see the chance of both Broncos and Sharks dropping out, Sharks playing all higher ranked teams and Broncos only playing one lower ranked team. Then again, it'd only take one win from either team to almost guarantee a finals spot. I think there could end up being a few teams sitting on 28 points at the end of the season.
The Raiders for and against could end up hurting them, they are a real chance of winning 2/3 games but if a lot of clubs end up on 28 points then they will be sitting at the bottom. Knights have a very tough run but their for and against is in their favour should they get a couple of upsets.
I think the top 8 wont change myself, I think the Sharks, Broncos and Tigers will win at least one of their last 3 matches and hold out the other teams by the skin of their teeth.
Nah I don't think so, they sucked hard for way too long in that match to blame it on one bad call.
I don't think Hoffman should be playing, they sent him to reserve for turning up late but they need to send him to reserve grade for being shit. Him and Hadley, fuck that guy was especially irritating tonight.
there is nothing wrong with hoffman at all, you're just shitty because he dropped that ball which is no better than blaming it on that first try
very tough to drop him from fullback because he is solid and he's got a bit better fullback mind about him when positioning himself for 5th tackle plays/kicks
but damn i can't help but like norman at fullback being able to inject himself into the game when something is on, more or less having 3 halves on the park has given them another dimension that jebus help me they have been lacking the previous games before the last 2
there is nothing wrong with hoffman at all, you're just shitty because he dropped that ball which is no better than blaming it on that first try
Nah I'm shitty because he was nowhere in defense, I didn't see him drop the ball as I was switching between the games but I did see him get caught out a number of times in defense and let at least one try through his shitty attempt at tackling.
why the fuck do teams kick backwards when they get a penalty inside the 10.
it isn't a rule, it is a choice. they could tap and run on the spot if they wanted
it's because it gives them room to run plays, get bodies in motion and spread the ball without the defense being right there in their face from the first tackle of the set
it's actually easier these days to score a try from a bit further out when you have bodies in motion and forwards running decoys than playing the ball on the line and hoping someone crashs through or spreading the ball and having someone rushed and smothered/the pass intercepted

i know it's not a rule. but the actual rule is my point. when the attacking side get a penalty inside the 10 they can walk back as far as they like, in a direct line with the penalty spot, and take the tap. the defending team has to stay on the try line because they must be 10 from the spot marked first. this gives them plenty of attacking space.
if they kick it back 10 mtrs then the defending team can move forward to 10 mtrs from the new spot.
EG. penalty to attacking team 6 mtrs from try line. they can walk back another 10 mtrs and take their tap. defending team has to stay on try line. they now have a wide open attacking option 16 mtrs from the defence.
in the same scenario if they kick it 10 mtrs back the new spot is marked there and the defence are allowed to move forward to 10 mtrs from the new spot.
ha ha.....i did the ARL coaches course a few years ago and there was a lot of coverage of the rules and it was part of the final assessment. the quirky ones stand out and this was one i didn't know about and since then it just bugs me.
for another piece of trivia i was assistant coach for 2 years of Maverik's (my son) team when he played for West Arana. didn't have time to go full time so i was the "Alfie Langer" of his team. he played hooker.
he would go pyscho, as in full on aggressive tackling spurts, when he'd been 'roughed up' in tackles, and the team would get fired up. so as runner when we needed something i would get this other kid on his own team to rough him up in a tackle, you know rub his face in the dirt as they get up, and blame the opposition. Dale would get all steamed up and go hard for 3-4 in a row nailing the ball runner. was so funny to watch and he never knew till much later.
Hahaha that is awesome. Love little stories like that. Watching old dressing room vids where they would slap each other in the face repetitively to gee each other up before kick off.
I ref'd junior league for 1 or 2 seasons. Did the course and everything. The parents and coaches and even the players were too much. So much bogan. Had better shit to do on my sundays. I love rugby league but fuck me it attracts the scum.
I was about 14-15 years old when I was reffing under 7's-9s. Had to call a few games off, plenty of bogan incidents. One time we had this little girl running the side line and this coach who was in his 40s at least called her "a fucking little slut" for what he thought was an incorrect decision.
pretty sure it is like double the last deal they had (they got ripped off badly last one, was 500 mill for 5 years IIRC). almost caught the AFL on TV deal now i think, which is good for the NRL.
Do you agree with the ARLC's decision to stick with Nine as the free-to-air broadcaster? 66% = No
Yeah because the tv deal currently is SHITE. Maybe now that the NRL has the upper hand you will see 9 bringing better coverage because hopefully it is in the contact.
Can you blame 9 for trying to make money. For example... NRL don't rate in melb, so they don't show it.
Apparently TEN offered Friday Saturday Sunday and Monday nights primetime live FreeToAir games and The NRL said No.
They went with 9RL showing 1 live game a week into one city each into Brisbane and Sydney.
