As far as i'm concerned Valve is bringing a new Counter-Strike (CS: GO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive)) to stores early this year.
I am curious to know if Valve will be able to keep up with the expectation of releasing another multiplayer hit :-
"For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next-gen consoles and the Mac."
For example Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was a massive multiplayer hit, the pressure that was put on the developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to make a game that was more so a multiplayer hit. Correct me if that makes little sense.
I think Valve have pretty much indicated that GO isn't "counter-strike 2" yet.
It's really just a console friendly CS so they can work out what to deliver in a CS2.
It will probably have a wide following, and I'm looking forward to a more updated version of models, physics, maps and official modes.
However all maps anything more then vaguly interesting will be ignored. de_dust2 and cs_office will be the only maps played, probably unchanged in the slightest, for the next 12 years.
For a few years I have said take CounterStrike:Source - release a HD texture pack and work on the netcode a little and I am sold. Everything else about it just works.
I'm guessing it will just splinter the community like all these kinds of release do, you'll still get your hardcore purists playing ye olde counterstrike at any rate.
Hoping Counter Strike : GO will be an improvement on the existing one shot mouse clicking game play. If anything of the success of Team Fortress 2 and its daily expectations of 33,000 to 44,000 players
(see: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/?snr=1_4_4__10)
Yes Robin Walker and the Hat Fortress development was kind of interesting and some of the ideas in CS:GO are also interesting things such as:
Finally as much as I'd like to agree that at one point jumping in certain ways to exploit engine physics and make you go faster, quick switching with the AWP to make the reload animation play faster were aspects that were part of the "game play mechanic" gamers have since observed that things have gone a bit more complex into building better coop shooters (L4D) (maybe L4D2 and Killing Floor -- not Valve but it is still fun) / better team tactical game play (TF2). So game play mechanics these days tends to have a few edges on it. But not enough to blunt it and make game play for one kind of group that ends up playing a game into the ground, but not encouraging new people to join in.
I do agree that Counter Strike is a team tactical game play shooter and I have seen amazing competition levels where people can one shot the opposition. But as for an air of team positioning, tactics, cover and light-of-sight use. I could be here all night arguing it. Never less I hope CS:GO doesn't turn into "Hat Fortress." Still developers need to make money off the original point-of-sale and Valve seems to have this interesting habit of on-going developments in game distribution and game play mechanics.
So aesthetic free-to-play might warrant eventual turns toward such a product as in "If we want to keep this game up to date and developed, we need some other form of funding from the original point of sale." and hence Gabe Newell and his comment about "Gaming Piracy is a service problem." and the other on-going forestalling event of a gamer's attention span cycle in development (i.e losing interest to new products.) Now gaming is a persistent and constant; Serviceability and utility.

So most things seem positive that Valve are also going the professional gaming route as well. Just as Starcraft 2 has gone in terms of competition. A recent game I was playing called Tribes Ascend is eventually going to implement this.

Inclusion of everyone's favourite gun-game mode.
As for whether PC versus XBOX players and keyboard versus gampad issue:
http://xim3.com/ - The cross platform idea looks very very interesting and promising, well now anyway.
Microsoft is expected to deliver an updated dashboard and Xbox 360 hardware to make the console compatible with Windows 8. “I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8,” said Pachter. “I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don’t think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014.” Several references to the Xbox 360 were discovered in early builds of the Windows 8 kernel. Microsoft revealed at BUILD that the company plans to include Xbox LIVE in Windows 8. The support will allow Xbox LIVE users to play against Windows 8 users in multiplayer games. Async multiplayer will allow Windows PCs, Windows Phone and Xbox 360 users to play against each other using multiplayer and matchmaking functionality.
I have good faith in valve they will add some interesting new additions to CS with this version. I like the smaller teams too, 5v5 IIRC. Hate being the first dead in a full game of standard CS.
However all maps anything more then vaguly interesting will be ignored. de_dust2 and cs_office will be the only maps played, probably unchanged in the slightest, for the next 12 years.
This is why I stopped playing CS (among other things)
if they dont have dust2 or office it will b win, office 2 is probably the gayest map in the world now and thats all that is on every single fuckin server
The Zeus x27, more commonly referred to as the taser, is a piece of equipment that will be featured in the upcoming Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It can only be shot once before being automatically dropped, but is capable of killing an enemy in one hit.
nooo, i can see this being as annoying as the shield all over again
Taser doesn't sound worth it at all? Maybe they'll nerf the other guns so you can't get instakilled with deagle/shotty/ak/m4 then it will have some value.
From the videos it looks like it's less about precision headshots, etc and more about spraying in the general direction of the enemy while you're circle strafing around each other like gumbies.
I'm well into it and eagerly awaiting a beta key. I've also started a community website for the game and hopefully will gain a good following. CS:GO is being tweaked and polished to the point where it will be great for everyone. I cannot wait.

I loved the riot shield, they also have one in mw3 that I used to like using until they completely fucked it up & now the enemy sneezes on you and you die.

They already made a cs with terrible hitscan, It was called "css"
for that to happen they would have to release a dedicated_server.exe, we know that is very unlikely because they could end up making CS go on even longer.
There is a damn good reason why tonnes of people still play CS, because it's awesome and because the servers are still massively deployed and easy to setup.
this is obviously terrible for business because you want to sell the updated product every year or 2
I would guess that way more people are playing games compared with then 1.6 was played and will easily top the "heights" of 1.6
Also no, Css never touched 1.6 on the competitive side. 1.6 is still being played in world tournaments each year for what 500k prize money? Not sure of any other FPS game that could still have that large of a competitive following after what 12-13 years after release lol...
After a long amount of work it gives me pleasure to introduce the new CS:GO Weapons List. Now you can find out all the information about your favorite Counter-Strike: Global Offensive weapons and gear and view screenshots of the weapons and gear from the Beta.
Yeah, I watched it, and thought that 'Maglio's roccochet is what killed the other guy... but it isn't...
so is the video funny because it's a 'strats' vid that failed horribly?
coz if it's not that.... then I really don't get it...
I don't really get why it's funny either. Dude runs out, gets awped in a spot well known for being a stupid spot to rush to because the CT's can get there first (and at least one always does).
Read OP before i realised it was an old thread. lol @ MW2 MP success. OP must be a console gamer as it caused ass sorts of rage on PC and as far as im concerned, was possibly the biggest gaming let down ever for me.
Most of that rage came from people fighting over which is better, modern warfare 2 or battlefield: bad game with hundreds of issues on release company 2 and their paid vs free DLC models.
***I loved bad company 2 but it was literally unplayable on release, constant random crashes and disconnections that took ages to fix, some patches made it worse.
Nah, the rage i meant was the consolification of COD MW2 following COD4+5. No dedicated servers, no mods, no console, shit FOV, shit lag and all the PC exclusive features that you would expect to continue from its predecessors.
Makes me lol than BFBC2 was broken upon release for others because I never had any significant issues apart from random disconnections where as BF3 is pretty much unplayable for me.
pretty unimpressed that valve haven't sought me out to try this new cs, I'm the perfect candidate. I was such a fan boy of it, always defended it in internet arguments... I would be good for business.
I think Valve have pretty much indicated that GO isn't "counter-strike 2" yet.

If you consider CS:Source was kind of like CS 1.75, then CS:GO will be 1.99 with more recursive 9's added as each successive patch is deployed.
