Huh? Why wouldn't you want to rip the media onto a drive for ease of access?

Keep the originals nice and safely stored somewhere. Fuck messing around with disks!

What about one of those vertical file cabinet things for your vinyl, store them in the hanging file thingies all alphabetized and lockable for safety from kids if you have any since records are rather fragile.

As for CD's, are you after case or caseless storage? You can get CD carousels that hook up to a computer and are stackable so you put your cd in it and tell the computer what cd is where so when you want that cd you just go to the computer & hit the button and the device spits it out.

If you want to store them with the cases just go to a furniature shop & get any cabinet or something with shallow but long and wide drawers & stand them up in there?

Alternately if you're handy go to a hardware store & buy some bits of wood and make some shelves that cover an entire wall?

Keep the originals nice and safely stored somewhere. Fuck messing around with disks!

That's the entire point of the thread..... where can he get a cabinet to store them.

Cheers whoop.

Most of the cds are digipacks, so normal cd slots aren't going to be of much help.

Just wanted to see if anyone had seen any good shelving and that for holding alot of cds and that. So far I haven't really seen anything worth purchasing, just cheap and nasty stuff.

Hogfather, i'm not really interested in ripping my music to listen to. I play all my albums through my car stereo, barely play anything through pc unless it's already on there.

Hey Damo, muchos respecto for hanging on to vinyl - there's still something about the sound of the spinning record that makes the music sound way better than any multi-million dollar production CD.

However, you should make an effort to back up your media to HDD. It's dead easy (although time consuming to take the disc in and out), and offers much more versatility in terms of how you can listen to your music, regardless of whether your want to listen to digi music now, or in 10 years time.

As for storage, can't help you out there... our record player had a great case with shelves for the records that was nice and discrete, and then we just used towers for CDs and DVDs. Not sure if you're going to be able to find something that has easy access and combines all of those formats :/

Damo, I've been hunting around for a bookshelf/cabinet with just the right size shelves etc for DVDs and CDs for a while. Mainly for DVDs one that is very tall, shelves deep enough only for one DVD/CD to fit and enough shelves that you can position them so that there is no wasted space above/below. Ikea had a perfect one when I was there about 2 months ago but was a bit more than it was probably worth. At christmas i'll probably just go there and grab it with a couple of extra shelves to make them the right height as it's the best I've found.

It's pretty hard because anything purpose built, new or old, is usually very expensive. You'd probably find something awesome at a used furniture or antique place but then it's hit and miss and would probably take a while.

have you had a look at the esprit range at officeworks?

cheap and nasty chipboard i know, but they seem to do the job, bonus points for adjustable shelves.

there's not
but if you're old enough to have actually listened to music before cd became the standard it can be nostalgic to hear the scratchy sound and reduced dynamics

Analogue recorded vinyl shytes over digital crap depending on what style of music. If you can't hear a positive difference you aren't listening.
