Borderlands Wrong version uploaded to AU Steam accounts

Astute Aussies have noticed a discrepancy in the local Steam version of Borderlands. These attentive gamers spotted a file labelled borderlands_low_violence.ncf in the installation folder, which isn’t present in the US version. Alarm bells rang, with the implication that Aussies were being sold a low-impact version of the game. It’s not such a far-fetched conspiracy theory, considering Australia’s stringent Classification Board and lack of R18+ rating.

We’ve just gotten off the phone to 2k Games, and it turns out that yes, the Australian Steam version of the game is a low-violence version of the game.

However, it’s not meant to be.

I thought that low_violence.gcf file was suspicious. Glad to hear that it was a mistake instead of them submitting a low violence version to the OFLC under the radar to get it rated.

Man I went to bed with Steam saying it would be playable in 6 hours (I wanted to be refreshed) yet this morning it was back to over three more days. Argh!

Definitely going to be getting this game through Steam, just as soon as I can afford it! Looks awesome and I'll be able to rope the kids into playing along as well, just means I have to shell out for 2 copies instead of 1 (through the families 2 Steam accounts)

Haha, that's cool, but I think I'd rather just wait the extra few days than face the Valve banhammer.

I think valve have better things to do, plus they shouldn't have teased us with that countdown, only to delay it by 3 days less than an hour away from release. The release date was always said to be the 27th.

I have no idea what Valve's priorities are, but my Steam account has too many games on there for me to want to risk it. I'll just play the L4D2 demo in the meantime.

If i have to redownload the entire game then i will be quite mad. Will be in a further state of rage if they dont upload the un-censored version onto a gamearena steam content server (they sometimes dont put em all the aussie servers, and i only get unmetered from gamearena :( )

I did the vpn unlock thing and didn't notice the lack of violence (though wasn't looking for it). I have the borderlands_low_violence.ncf file though, so that ust have been the case.

All that being said though, the game is boring as shit singleplayer, and no amount of violence will fix that. Hopefully there will be some amazing multiplayer moments that will redeem the title for me.

Played the game for about 4 or 5 hours and stupid me thought i'd try that clientregistry.blob trick. Made a copy, deleted it, turned on VPN and booted up steam. Nothing happens so copied the .blob file back. Boot up steam in offline mode and now borderlands is relocked and cant get it working again. Guess i'm forced to wait another 3 days

In fact the banner ad on the AusGamers websites says 23rd October.

That's when the console version came out. The PC version was originally due then too, but got pushed back a week.

Which was the correct date for the console versions.

Personally I don't see what all the fuss is about, I woke up early that morning, saw that Steam had incorrectly advertised the US release date and not the AUS release date and thus had to push the release back to Friday. My world failed to end so I said fuck it and went and got a round of golf in before work :)

Uh-oh

Australian Users,

If you have already preloaded Borderlands, please delete your local content and re-download the game to ensure that you have the proper files.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Now that I think about it, there has been a distinct lack of blood.
Hope you all have another 7 gig free on your cap :)

Out of all the countries that this could have happend to, Australia would have to be one of the worst.

Managed a brief (up to level 3 Beserker) and it looks great and sounds great - but so as Machninarium.
