What're you playing over the break?

So 2012 is all but over and there's loads of time to catch up on some games. I've already smashed through most of the 2012's big titles, and I've had to go back to the well to find something new to play over the break. I ended up settling on Dark Souls.
I played Demon's Souls when it first came out, although I didn't finish it. I picked up the second game when it came out, but for whatever reason it didn't really grab me. Now I've got plenty of time for gaming so I thought I'd give it another bash, and I'm loving it. It gives me a strong Castlevania vibe (moreso than that pretender Lords of Shadow) and feels kind of like a modern version of that game, or Ghosts and Goblins. At some point I cracked and went and read up on a wiki, and now I've got a much better handle on wtf is going on in the game.
Anyone else enjoying some holiday gaming in between stints of eating too much and blocking up the crapper?

About to restart Skyrim for the third time with the 2 dlc's and a shitload of mods, ready for the next dlc.

I'm hammering away at The Witcher in between stints of Natural Selection 2. Great RPG, would recommend. The first 3-4 hrs were pretty dull and the combat system felt a little clunky at first but all forums said push past and the game will blossom and it surely did.

Finished Super Mario Bros U with 5 stars on the menu screen in a couple days so I decided to bust out Donkey Kong Country Returns since I bought it when it came out and never played it. The difficulty of this game really puts Mario Bros to shame though the Mario Bros U challenge levels are actually quite challenging, at least to get gold anyway.

Far Cry 3 mostly
This. Really love open and dynamic games like that. About 35 hours into it but barely halfway through the story.
Nothing like carefully scoping out an enemy base first, taking out a few guards and hiding their bodies, then about to get spotted but a fucking tiger happens to wander along into the base and mauls the remaining guards, saving my arse ...

Played story in 10 hrs and someone else saved over my savegame :( so I probably will start again. Trick is to set off alarms and run away and pick them of when they are chasing you.

I often snipe all the alarms rather than get in close and manually disable them, try and take out the guards undetected, but even if you are detected they can't set off the alarm and you still get some bonus xp.
I've got a fucking badass silenced sniper rifle that I got as a reward for collecting shit or doing something (it was one of the signature weapons), and that just kicks ass. Also got a silenced SMG from the signature weapons that does well if I need to get in close. But all the different takedowns are heaps of fun too, like the knife throw one, or the grenade one

500 exp take base. 550 exp take base no alarms. 1500 exp take base unseen. I go for the extra ~1000exp every time, although it means im often headshotting with a sniper rifle from distance.

The fuck? And miss out on the fat XP bonus for clearing them silently? You get plenty of xp over the course of the game, and half the skills are useless anyway, so in the end that xp means sfa. Also, snipe from miles away (or rocket launcher) and if they cant see you they wont hit the alarm.. they run around like headless chickens and you still get the take base unseen bonus. Towards the end i was just lobbing explosives into the bases or charging in and letting them hit the alarms, more fun that way, and if you really care about xp then the special chain takedowns give you plenty and you can let the reinforcements come til you have as much as you want.

I'm gonna try and play some games I half played before my attention was taken by a new shiny game. I have lots of these.
Some I will try again, Condemned 1&2, Deus Ex, The Darkness 1&2, Dead Island, Fallout 3.
Maybe 1 a day on lockdown!
Problem is I have a $100 JB gift card so the cycle is unlikely to be broken long term.

Finish far cry 3. Solid game that one.
Playing through Mass Effect 3 because I never really finished it the first time. Also top notch game.
I also managed to snag Dark Souls off amazon for PC for $15. I hooked up an xbox controller and am running dsfix and the game looks and plays great. Time to get my arse handed to me in a number of spectacular ways :D

What is borderlands 2 like in comparison to far cry 3? I briefly saw borderlands 1 and it looks pretty enjoyable.

Im a big FPS fan and i played both.
Borderlands 2 IMO needs to be played coop. I got bored by myself and wasnt a fan of the RPG style quests. Also, didnt like skill tree. Loot was good. Played about 3hrs as Zero then about 10hrs as gunslinger then stopped playing.
Far Cry 3 i think the shooter mechanics are better, skill tree makes a more significant difference sooner, and is solid when played solo. However, ive just gotten to the second island and im tired of the repetitiveness although new enemies and weapons might change this. 15-20hrs played so far.
Just my opinion. I know others will think differently. Also, Far Cry 3 needs a decent system where as borderlands 2 doesnt.
