With the Guild Wars 2 beta to launch in less hen 6 hours, Please list your characters name below. The interwebs has anomalously decided that Sea of Sorrows will be the unofficial server of choice until we get our own region/if we get one at all.

More than likely the Character names will be wiped at launch and thread will be updated accordingly.

Timmeh - Kyoto
Eorl - Eorl
DM - Serimorph

IT'S UP!

I've created a guild, The Honey Badgers, message Eorl or add froodlemaster to your friends list. This game is amazing by the way, the combat is very fluid and I can't actually tell what ping I'm getting but no lag yet.

I can log onto Sea of Sorrows all fine now. Basically Hoggy you get "locked" onto a server, which is your world that you represent in World vs World vs World PVP. They've made it so you can't just up and change straight away to stop people just switching sides all the time if one server is losing etc. However you can transfer for a price, 2,000 gems which is in-game currency.

Check out here for more in-depth view http://www.arena.net/blog/choosing-and-transferring-worlds-in-guild-wars-2

Oh also transfers are free for this weekend, they want to test the service/feature.

I'll be on Sorrow's Furnace.

Okay so it seems Guilds are cross-server as well which is pretty friggin cool. Also you can go onto any server as a "guest" which lets you create a copy of a character to play.

Yeah, I've just logged out because the server seems to be dying under the load. I just had a 60+ second lag spike, about 10 seconds of play, and then it lagged out again. Kind of wishing I chose a lower population server.

Server coming down for maint for 30 min lol. Well after very fast fiddlings with necro, mesmer, ranger, engie and ele it seems my fav 2 classes are ranger and engie. The others doesn't really appeal to me all that much. Might try a gun thief but we'll see.

I woke up at around server start up time, and my mate had stayed up the whole night to keep playing through. About 30 minutes in to the charr start area, his whole suburb lost power. He must be spitting chips at this point :/ If the outage continues he may end up having to restock his fridge (still no power, it's been hours now...)

I've tried out all the warrior weapon skills now. Bow and rifle are actually quite nice for ranged damage (rifle has some decent AoE, rifle is single target). Was just trying out guardian prior to maintenance...

I like the engineer but their weapon skills don't seem to pack much punch compared to the other classes I've tried so far. Though I didn't get a chance to try any engineer kits last time, they might be fun.

Loving this Guardian, so much fun with the shield mechanic and the bubble that stops projecticles. Figured out that skill points are from those blue triangle guys, and you use them to get new skills for slots 7-0.

Also whoever wants an invite to AusGamers/QGl guild just send a message to Eorl or if that doesn't work froodlemaster.

im finding trouble with the dodging.

you have ur standard WASD and you have Q and E to strafe, double tapping Q E S or W in there respected direction allows you to roll and dodge attacks. as there is the "cone" are of damage from foes, dodge backwards and forwards, you cans till suffer damage. So trying o move forward as well as strafe dodge is quite hard.

Yeah noticed that to, it's interesting, but makes sense because if you just dodge backwards or forwards you're still in line of sight for a fireball or arrow.

The Warrior is a fucking death machine when equipped with a Greatsword. I love that all of the Greatsword attacks are in a wide arc, it makes it really fun to take on groups of enemies. The world events with waves of enemies are great fun to whirlwind through.

Yeah I find Thief to be a better bow user than what Ranger is. They get Trick shot which bounces 3 times to different targets, Cluster bomb which you can detonate in the air for big damage and Poison Gas arrow. very cool combos you can do with those 3 while rangers just get single target things.

Just started playing a Thief, and I'm really liking it, probably more than the Warrior.

I also just love how the entire game is designed to minimise the bullshit. Everything is about getting you into the action without the tedium. You can put things up on the Commerce store instantly from wherever you are, you can warp to waypoints all over the map for a small fee, you don't need to run to and from quest givers, etc. It's just streamlined, and you get to spend your time focusing on the fun stuff rather than running from one NPC to another. I guess they have no incentive to waste people's time, since they don't have a subscription.

EDIT: Holy crap, I just walked into Divinity's Reach, the human capital. It's pretty awesome, and the scale is amazing. It's huge!

Right away, hit H then select the PVP tab. Hit “Be in the Mists”. After you port, there will be an Asura Gate in front of you. Take it to Lion’s Arch.

You're right, it's freaking amazing. My first thought was that it was like a huge version of Booty Bay, but I soon came to a more suitable realisation. It's the port town from Hook! I love how all of the buildings are made from old ships, and the scale is just crazy.

It'll be nice when they fix the CPU issues so I can get a decent framerate here.

My thoughts on classes so far having barely scratched them for anyone who cares.

Thief - Can see this being a high damage dealer. Daggers MH and Short bow in off for any situation. Their shortbow skills are far better than ranger that's for sure. Bouncing auto shot? Hell yes. Poison combo field is awesome when combined with 2 - 3 mobs and bouncing trick shot. Awesome looking armor too

Ranger - Very lackluster to me. Only 4 shots and the rest of the skills are all about traps and spirits it seems. I've had traps up to my arse thanks to being a WoW hunter so I don't want to deal with them again thanks. Pet is nice though if as strong as wet paper. Longbow skills are ok, barrage is awesome.

Elementalist - Another high damage class. Tons of spells which will take you awhile to unlock. Daggers were my fav weapon in water attunement because of the Vorpal Blade. Can see this being maybe the strongest class for raw damage.

Engineer - Only 2 types of actual weapons so better get used to em. No weapon switching to make things even more fun. Lots of skills which replace mainhand though so that makes up for it. Quite a fun class, some good damage. This or Thief will be my main. They have fun mechanics and great damage. I love being able to throw potions at people to help them out.

Well after a few hours on my ranger I retract my statement. They have some great damage in AoE situations, Barrage rocks then. Any future rangers out there save yourself some time and pick the bear as your starting pet. The cat and drake are damage and suck for leveling. They can hardly take 1 mob at a time without needing healing. They can't tank a damn thing. Bears are awesome and I've had them tank 4 mobs at once with my healing well up while I barraged everything down.

For bosses/veteran mobs I set up Barrage, switch to shortbow and start my bleeds going. Using Sharpened Stone to give me 5 stacks of bleeds over next 5 hits which also stacks with your auto attack so your getting 10 stacks quick. Tons of damage over a short span of time if you weave poison fan in. It's definitely down to ranger, thief or engineer for me in retail. Just not sure which as I like them all

I really like how you can switch weapons on the fly, makes tanking/damaging so much more easier with my two hand hammer and mace/shield. I've stopped playing for now as I want to pace myself and not ruin the starting areas too much before release, but overall I'm very, very happy.

Some classes don't get that Eorl, so if you get into combat with the wrong weapon you are stuck. Engineer comes to mind. Man Lion's Arch is so bad arse. I was really gunho about the engie but I got her to 10 and some of the packs I unlocked after my praise were pretty shit at times and I can't work out if there is a reset feature. Flamethrower works good when it hits. Sometimes the fire just won't hit for 2 or 3 full channels. Not sure why.

Bought Med pack and that is also super shit as I expect it's not meant for solo play since all you can do is drop health packs. Who would of thought? Then there is Flame Turret which seems to disappear after 15 seconds and the game doesn't start the recharge automatically so you have to manually hit the explode button for it to recharge. Grenades are pretty shit so I wouldn't get them for PvE since you have better options. Lot of wasted skill points figuring that shit out.

I've spent about 98% of my time in the human lands, and I plan on being Asura come retail so I don't think i've spoiled much at all.

I have buckets on standby Khel. Ah true DM, must be a Guardian thing then, because I use my two hander for smashing mobs down and then my mace/shield for protection and pushing enemies away.

Overall, for a "free-to-play" game, this just wrecks WoW and the likes. Everything is instantly accessible and works. All of it makes sense, combat is fun and makes me keep an eye on things. Events and "quests" are really cool, and love seeing the world change because I didn't bother helping out some Charr. Also having NPC's running down the road yelling "Help our village is burning to the ground!" was really cool.

Skill points are really hard to get by the way. Usually involves an elite event. Oh yeah, and being able to pick up a lot of stuff on the ground and use it as weapons is hilarious. Picked up a leg of ham and was fighting with it and when on low health take a bite. Oh and bar fights!

Well it seems the beta is going down in the next half hour, how did everyone enjoy it? Personally made me excited to see something out of a game that's been in development for years. Also for a beta, it was exceptionally awesome. A whole heap of stuff to do, and I only got to level 9 on my Guardian. The Charr area is just awesome, their main city is very industrialised which looks so much better then Ogrimmar which is similar in style.

So, the GMs unleashed the avatars of death known as the Champion Bloodthirsty Black Moa's as a Beta end event. Destroyer of towns, rapist of women and breaker of armor. Fuck those things are nasty as hell and we had like 30 - 50 people or more on them at the same time.

It was pretty cool to start with (the end event I mean), with the Legendary White Bunny and the Champion Moas, but it got a bit repetitive and boring after a while. I was kind of hoping for some big dragon or something at the end, but it was just the Moa invasion. :(

I really loved the whole beta though, and I liked that it actually had an easy-to-use bug ticketing system. While I didn't really find many problems, I still submitted bugs whenever I came across them. One balance issue with the human personal story was really annoying, so I submitted a bug for that, long with some art and spelling issues. Looking forward to the next event to see how much has improved.

I really just want them to fix the CPU bottleneck issue though. The framerate was really bad sometimes. The Legendary Bunny fight was like 5 fps, which is just retarded. I don't see why it should have been anywhere near that low.

I actually remember something similar to that framerate issue in WoW's initial days, was something to do with it overloading the CPU and not spreading it across the GPU. Hopefully it does get fixed, however on Saturday night they put out a update and it seemed to fix a majority of the lag.

I was actually amazed at how smooth and responsive it was for a American server. After playing SWTOR as well the past two days on Oceanic server, I couldn't tell the difference between them.

There were times where the lag was a non-issue, where I could dodge attacks when saw a mob start telegraphing, and that was great. Not sure what the actual ping was, probably like 250ms or so, which seemed perfectly playable. There were other times where I had to pretty much guess when a mob was about to attack, because dodging when they started the animation was already too late. Hopefully when the game launches, it's more the former situation than the latter.

I have no idea what is supposed to be happening in those screenshots, or why the events thus captured were screenshot-worthy.

Yeah, they're not really that relevant to the overall game, just some shots of the mayhem as the servers were closing, with everyone taking on the huge flaming Moa invasion. It was a pretty weird finale to the beta. They're normally just a passive mob that wanders about, but they made them huge and really powerful.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I saw this on Reddit. There's a big diving board in Lion Arch, the main hub city. Someone couldn't quite make it.

For those of you who played the beta and enjoyed it, I'd recommend jumping onto the guild wars 2 forums here:
https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/suggestions/Oceanic-South-East-Asia-Servers-are-NEEDED

And posting your opinion on the subject while you can.

The forums will be going down at 2 AM (I believe) our time and ArenaNet will be going through forum posts made on it for the feedback given, so it's probably as good a time as any to let them know what you think.

Actually it's quite the opposite, they have a high motivation in wanting to keep players in their game and by doing so offering patches/expansions and local services. ArenaNet and NCSoft are quite okay in regards to money, so I don't see a reason why they can't follow in SWTOR's footsteps and put 3 or so servers with Telstra.

It's still in their interests to keep people playing, despite not having a subscription. They have a store in which to buy aesthetic items, short buffs (e.g. get 50% more EXP for an hour), and more character slots (each account will only come with a limited number of character slots). People who are able to enjoy the game without being frustrated by technical issues would likely be more willing to make purchases in the store.

I just opened the client for shits and giggles before to see what it'd say, and there was an update and a message saying that there will be a short stress-test on Monday the 14th. It's only for a few hours though, and after I converted the times, it looks like it'll be from 5am to 11am local time. Not very useful. :(

EDIT: Also, this doesn't include any client changes, so there's not going to be any bug fixes or anything. Apparently it's to test some server-side changes with regards to load and stuff.

Hmmm same, how odd. Hah, just noticed I still had custom music for my login screen, was wondering why Lana Del Rey was playing.

I can't find any mention on the net of people saying that the event is up and running either. I'd have expected to hear people at least saying "yay, it's up!" but nothing.

Yeah, event happens tomorrow for us. I dunno if I can be bothered waking up 2 hours early to play it for that long before I go to work. Though I kinda want to.

I buckled and ended up playing for about 2 hours this morning. PVP was disabled though so I just ended up playing with traits and things for most of the time.

Gah, don't have time to play this morning, how sad :( Ah well, just makes me more eager, hopefully we get a weekend beta soon.
