Pretty sure you can remove the patch notes and just link to them elsewhere. Also, lol at this gamer.

Looking pretty good actually. Is it still a custom engine or did they end up changing over to something else? Been a while since I read up on this.

Custom engine.

What's really good is the dynamic lighting in this game - flashlights emit real light, shadows are real time etc, makes for some really awesome effects.

Left 4 Dead would have been great with this lighting engine.

It's been pretty good for a while now, last few patches I'm running close to 60fps with a 4850.

The major issue was lack of end-game content... aliens max out with fades/1-2 incomplete chambers and marines have only light armour. The game grinds to a halt quickly (15-20mins) without end-game tech and people get bored or it stalemates.

This patch hopefully addresses that.

So nothing special that you couldn't get in any number of free/cheap engines? I've seen people doing dynamic lighting, soft shadowing, deferred rendering, etc in Ogre for example, and thats a completely open source free engine. I still think the custom engine approach is a horrible idea, but I've ranted enough about that in the past :P

This is like duke nukem all over again. This will never be released at the rate it's going.

...flashlights emit real light...

So this means I can do away with my household torch if I get a long enough DVI cable?

In all seriousness... what the fuck is 'real light' supposed to be (besides a horrendous marketing statement), in a totally artificial representation of a '3D world' on a 2D monitor...?

Would look better if they would release it. The best thing about the first one was the game play and team work...don't think I've ever remembered a game for it's graphics.

Wish Blizzard would do a SC game like that.
i dunno, you'd get some pretty demented flashbacks after a night of that.

It will be at least another 12 months minimum, I wouldn't be surprised if it's 2 years off. Everyone, even the complete nuthuggers have accepted the timeframe blowout and no longer rage... it will come when it comes (which is a long way off).

The good news is that the incomplete version is highly enjoyable, I've sunk 60 hours into it so far and every patch brings something new and improves the game.

That video looked pretty cool and like an actual game rather than previous video releases that looked like tech demos.
If it's fun now, then why don't they just declare and ship it?
Sounds like they're going for a minecraft style beta or a TF2 continuous update model where 'Finished/1.0' doesn't really have much meaning.

It's fun to me but I was obsessed with NS1.

It's nowhere near ready... once they have full tier 3, a selection of maps and smooth out the performance + bugs a bit more I would say it's releasable.

For a regular studio that doesn't seem like much, for them it's a 1-2 year project because that's the speed it's progressing at.

The reason it takes so long is because there are only like 10 people actually making it.

I believe it's around 6 :S

It is what it is... even the developers have accepted the blowout, they no longer promise anything in regards to the timeline and make no apologies any more.

I purchased this ages ago... Ill just patiently wait. Much love for ns1. Haters hate but ns1 is easily one of the best games ever.

A big studio should pick up the game concept now and release it using something like say the frostbite engine before NS team finish.

Jewing them of their money and making them pay dearly for their stupid decisions.
