just my personal opinion, but I don't think this initiative is a useful form of protest. It's fine for exhibitors to withdraw from the event, that could have some reasonable impact, but asking press to boycott it is rather absurd.

For a start, a big chunk of the mainstream press are owned by the same companies that are lobbying for these stupid laws, so do you think Newscorp's IGN/1Up and Viacom's Gametrailers/G4TV etc etc are going to not be there covering everything regardless of what everyone else does?

Even if all independent press pulled out, all it would do is actually increase the traffic those publications would get as the only sources covering gaming's biggest annual event.

There are some good ways of protesting SOPA/PIPA out there, but this is not one of them.

Even better. Go but refuse to be interviewed by any company that supports SOPA/PIPA or whos parent company supports them.

In other words you don't have the intestinal fortitude to make a public stance, not because of copyright, but the way they've gone about it. What happens when legislation like this ends up here, isn't this just another form of censorship or do you support the internet filter and no R18+ for games? Isn't it too late to shut the stable door once the horse has bolted?

BTW I've never been to 1UP, IGN, Gametrailers or G4TV.

No, not in other words. Nothing in what I just said has anything to do with courage or a lack thereof, don't be daft.

My main point -- since you seem to have missed it -- was that independent press boycotting E3, would actually only have the outcome of empowering the media outlets that would still attend because they are owned by the same conglomerates that are bankrolling SOPA.

Dan's point is very valid.

If you're only leaving the 'sponsored/owned' press cover E3 you don't 'make a stand' you simply allow only the media outlets INVESTED in E3 cover what is going on at E3.

What would be more interesting would be the outcomes of a press interview AT E3 covering specifically the implications of SOPA/PIPA.

Either that or hit up each of the vendors about their product, and then interview them to the extent that SOPA/PIPA will affect their products 'gaming experience'.

one example I can think of would be Dirt 3's 'upload to youtube' option. I recall reading footnotes somewhere about how this new bill would essentially give only the game publisher/developer the power to formally 'publish' footage of their products...

Saw a pretty funny quote this week: "Under SOPA, you could get 5 years for uploading a Michael Jackson song. One year more than the doctor who killed him."

Nice pic ravn0s, but I think it might be a 'shop.

I've marked where there are missing pixels which lead me to this conclusion.

I think it's too large a defect to be able to write this off as just some 'resolution artifact'.
