Just received this email from Molten Servers, guys who host my Teamspeak server amongst other services:

Due to recent events ( Mass Ddos attacks and staffing being some of them) we shall be closing the doors for Molten Servers as of 31/12/2011.
We are sorry for this and are notifying all clients, that if you have any files to move make sure you download a copy to your PC for safe keeping.
To all website clients we recommend you backup your website, and find a new host to move your site to.

We are sorry for the late timing on this email ,as we have been trying to asses and setup the business to carry on.
We wish everyone a merry christmas and a happy new year.

P.S all our services will be offline on 31/12/2011and no contact to us will be possible.

Thanks Molten Servers

Sad. Now I guess I'll have to just make my own media box to host stuff.

wtf, I have no idea what these guys do but if anyone was using them for something critical I smell a lawsuit. They sound dodgy as hell.

Thanks Tuf, I was either going to find another, or build my own box. Don't really have the spare cash for a box at the moment, so this will do!

Most likely, otherwise they would be sued out of the wazoo. I was luckily only on a $2 a month bill, so no biggie for me, but anyone who had their website put through them got quite an abrupt end.

It is unfortunately quite common for fuckwit gamers that get banned to do a DDOS. It is even more unfortunate that it is easy to do so using some basic point and shoot hacker tools. We have had this problem on Mammoth VPS a little bit but we have a good process in place to mitigate it and our network provider is really awesome at catching them now so it is not much of a problem - however, we don't cater to game networks because we - like many other VPS providers - don't want to be made a target of said fuckwits.

Eventually one of them will make a mistake and get caught and presumably go to jail for some criminal offense; it is unfortunately that is impacts small providers so significantly though. I wish I could offer some sort of bounty to catch these people on any network; if you ever hear some asshole boasting about it I certainly would love to hear about it.

I'd also be interested if you stumble across any of the tools that they are using. I have a pretty good idea what they are and how they work but I would like to get my hands on the actual tools to see what else can be done to mitigate their effects.
