With the Early Access of SWTOR mostly done, it's time to collaborate, and get a definitive thread going where everyone can come and see who is who, and what servers we are playing on etc. Currently the "un-official" PVP server for Oceanic is The Swiftsure, and the "un-official" PVE servers are The Harbringer where a majority of the guilds are, or ekk'Jekk Tar where TOG and a few small guilds are.
Hogfather among others have set up a guild on The Swiftsure, Imperial side, called . You can contact Hogfather for a invite.
So, the names! Just gives us a reply on what your name is, whether your Sith or Republic, and what server your playing on, and hopefully you can find others to add to your friends list so you don't start feeling lonely!
If everyone can comment with their server, in-game name and what class they are playing, would be awesome!
Update 1 - Names have been added, remember, name in () is the forum name, not in-game name (which is bolded)! Also, a list of upcoming maintenances in the next few days.
Update 2 - Khel mentioned in the other thread a handy tip for forcing AA.
For nVidia, edit the settings file (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\SWTOR\swtor\settings\client_settings.ini) and add the line:
AntiAliasingLevel = 4
to the [Renderer] section of the file.
Apparently forcing the AA on in the catalyst control panel works for ATI cards.
Maintenance Window #1:
Date: Early hours of Friday, December 16th (CST)
Time: 2AM CST (12AM PST/3AM EST/8AM GMT/9AM CET)
All game servers and SWTOR.com will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than four hours, but could be extended.
Maintenance Window #2:
Date: Evening of December 19th (CST)
Time: 6PM CST (4PM PST/7PM EST/12AM GMT/1AM CET)
All game servers and SWTOR.com will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to complete before 11PM CST, and will mark the end of Early Game Access for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Maintenance Window #3:
Date: Early hours of December 22nd (CST)
Time: 2AM CST (12AM PST/3AM EST/8AM GMT/9AM CET)
All game servers and SWTOR.com will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than three hours, but could be extended.
Wow.. that's fucking ordinary. Sit in the queue for ~40 minutes and when it comes time to enter the server I get an error and now I'm shoved back to the start.
Ouch :( Just did Black Talon flashpoint. Was amazing. This game has really shaken up my standards for an MMO. Everything works. It feels like a very well polished game.
I'm just surprised that there is no queue bypass system in place - you know if you get DC'd or your client crashes you can get straight back in without queueing but that functionality has been overlooked. I'd hate to be doing a flash point, modem resets and then be faced with a queue trying to get back on.
Queue for swifture is 1500+ atm. It's fucking typical though, it happens in EVERY MMO, us Aussies pick a server and the population just explodes. It's the blackrock phenomena, I attribute it's cause to that Aussies make a competent, solid and vibrant community wherever we go, there are also thousands of Americans who play off peak server times and of course US military that follow the oceanic community to have english speaking, culturally similar people to play with. To top it off there is only 10 West coast PVP servers currently, and all the mmo lemmings LOVE to jump on massively popular servers.
Edit: I also think bioware is on drugs not releasing the game here. In my experience it doesn't matter which obscure peice of shit mmo you play there are aussies in it. We are a huge and accepting market with mmos. The fact that thousands of us have imported or done dodgy cd key online to get around the fact that we can't buy it on the shelves is testament to this.
I've been playing all morning, it was a bit annoying though, I was in a queue at one point when I went to rejoin, took me five minutes to get on the server. Such a pain.
I don't think it'll get hugely worse once it launches though, cos I'd imagine a large majority of the people who are really keen already have it and are playing now, plus they're only selling a limited number of copies of it

You realize this occurring would go against every other MMO launch ever? The game will only get bigger.

No, they aren't selling a limited number of copies of the game. They are selling as many as they can in the released areas of US and EU. Deciding not to sell it in Aus or NZ is a red rag to a bull, we will get around it as we have done. Further the servers with the longest queues just happen to be those in the "unofficial" Oceanic grouping.
4 1/2 hour wait to get on apparantly in swiftsure. Yeah I may move servers since this will be utter chaos unless they open the server pops up. Only going to get much MUCH worse.
Haha, glad I'm not home. We will have to assess the situation closer to release, if its still like this then we will definitely have to move servers. Also, what do we want to call the guild? I was talking to ticman, should call it The Faceman Experience. Can have ranks like "believer".
I assume that's a typo because there is a "its a trap". Well in that case throw us an invite on my IA (starting to love this class). Going heal spec operative. Name is Diiem (see what I did there?)

I'm annoyed, what do EA think will happen when its released? Sure a month from now things would have settled down a bit but what do we do until then? Not play the game we imported/bought online? Hope they have free server x-fers like Rift does. (I think its free). I suppose its to be expected though, new game, massive amounts of people trying to get in and have a go. They don't want to spend more money on servers when the game is just released, CEOs need to keep their books in check to get that bonus.
Updated OP with guild info, just told everyone to ask for an invite from you Hoggy. I presume that's going to be the QGL/Ausgamers guild, or were you intending on that being a private guild?
And about queue times, it's expected. That is what they stress tested previously. It's a new MMO, a good one as well, one that has a lot more potential and eager players then previous MMO's. Everyone knows it is going to do well, and that it's going to be popular. Just have to be patient, hopefully they can implement a queue system that allows people who get disconnected priority/instant log back in within a time window.
I'm laughing at all the people complaining on the forums. It's so hilarious seeing people threatening that they will cancel their pre-order because it ain't going their way or they can't play it like WoW. Also go look on the WoW forums, they are shitting themselves, making bullshit up, one thread claims to have reached level 50 and that it has "no end-game" and that the whole game is crap. Sooo hilarious.
I always liked <Sith Happens> .. so anyways I found a way to avoid the queue which was to login about ~1hr before you want to play! I was heading home from a friends place tonight after dinner, takes about an hour and 20 minutes so I VNC'd home, logged in to a queue of 1050 then drove home. Unpacked the car, sat down and was at position 70 - WINNARH!
Rift had the server queue issue at launch caused by people not wanting to queue so they were jamming keys to auto run into walls. Looks to be the same thing happening.

just hit the auto run button into a corner. that's what i did lastt night while i did something else for an hour.
I don't know what happened, but I left it on the char menu last night when I went out, came back had something like 'server error 3' and was on the server menu, Harbinger had its normal queue time of definitely not <50min and I got straight in when I clicked it.
Yeah I was booted from there with a random error, but the point is (dunno if was clear, I just woke up so not making sense) I logged straight in after the boot with no queue time. Just wasn't smart enough to try that again as I jumped in 20min ago as 600 and am now 205.
I should have rolled a healer, went tank cos I figured tanks are always in short supply. Now theres heaps of tanks and I never get a group, but everyone always wants healers :(
Got BSOD and was trying to log back in within 3 min. No free entry and now stuck in a queue. Said 2 hour wait (ffs) about 30 - 40 min ago when I logged into the queue. Went off to do some stuff around the house, came back and only says 1h 50m left. 1317 in queue. Go me!
While we are here, its time to answer the critical question.
Who shot first?
+1 to Greedo shot first.
I am enjoying the Bounty Hunter Class too, There is something about ranged combat that is fun and satisifeing. Probably because its lasers/blasters and not arrows or lead shot.
You might as well get it now, TufNut. Ques suck at the moment on Swiftsure but once you do get in, its smooth and fun.

I'll be the first to take the bait.
In the original theatrical version of the film, Han shoots Greedo and Greedo dies without firing a shot. The scene was modified for the 1997 re-release to feature Han using his weapon in retaliation after Greedo fires at him; the latter missing Han at point-blank range (<2 meters away). Thus, the phrase "Han shot first" is a retort to director George Lucas' explicit cinematographic assertion that "Greedo shot first."
I'm wondering if armormech is the way to go with crafting. It would be nice to have at least 1 crafting skill but from what i've heard Biochem is amazing with tons of stims, Infinite use HP packs, in-combat res items and bunch of other stuff. I'm dropping underworld trading though I think for slicing as that is apparantly an insane money maker when you get higher up, bringing in thousands of credits per mission. So 5x people all going to collect at once = buy whatever the hell you want and laugh.
yeah i just ordered it through cjs-cdkeys but "No keys are currently stored on our online system for this game" so i guess ill be waiting for them to load more keys
Yeah might as well go hard with it now (hopefully get companion 2 soon), rake up as much cash as possible and buy some epics on the AH since they are only like 3500c each give or take max. Hell I bought a few blue items on there for only 100c each.

I choose armstech (the gun making one) and had T7 making me guns for a bit as I ran around. Sure you only get like 100 creds but they take a minute to make at the start for low level stuff and if you do it for a little bit you can make a little bit of money. Took scavenging as a complimentary skill so I would always have components.
Slicing is fun as well. It the beginning its week but throw a few levels in to it and its worth it.
Yay, 45 minute queues! Ah well, love the game to much to complain. Also, I have a TeamSpeak server just chilling here, are people interested in using it for the guild? I can give admin powers etc. to certain people.
Sweet, even better, Eorl. My characters are only lv11 but it would be a chore to re-roll thought it would help me refine my characters better, looks wise anyway.
Found a non-crafted, non-reverse engineered epic (or artefact in this game) lightsaber. Lv 13 and a ton of stats for its level. Threw it on the AH for 8000c
will be interesting to see what the queues like when i get home from work this evening.
i'm loving playing a sith. i'm enjoying the quests a lot more than i did as a jedi. also i thought tython and coruscant looked awesome but these empire planets look so much more impressive.
I was selling some medical gear for 4k a pop on the market place and they were being snapped up, then some douche bag comes along and puts a bunch up for 1k ..
Hammerpoint I think it's called? I healed it and did pretty darn well I must say for not having my HoT heal. No wipes. My ultimate decision is if I want to go bounty hunter heals or operative heals. There aren't as many operative players though so I like having a slightly rarer played class, not to mention the gear you get looks awesome as hell.
Hammer Station I think (its the level 17 one from the Kaas space station). I snuck in a few heals on the boss fights DM but I reckon that's how the flash's feel like they are sposed to be played.
Had run it twice before - once with a 17-18ish group, once with 20-22s and with us. Ours was about as smooth as the one with the higher levels, the other 17ish group was a total clusterfuck, felt like the tank had invested in dps gear or something.
Yeah I popped my JEDI BUBBLE and some heals but on the boss fight just focused on the lightning bolts. I think it was super quick, sub 45 minutes from what I can remember while BT is about an hour and the Jedi one is about an hour and a half.
Ya, Hammers Station was cool. I feel like I should be more tanky though than what I currently am as a Sith Assassin. Still, the heals were good and no one died - so that's good be a good thing right!?
really impressed with the flash points, they seem really fun and orgnanic.
i also like that the quests for them are dailies and you don't have to fap about trying to pick up all the side quests for each instance like WOW and then dick around for another 10mins while everyone tries to share them.
i can see this game doing serious damage to my social life :(

i was surprised how quick BT was. the jedi one was much longer.

what level are you? you do get some tank abilities to grab aggro and protect others.
looks like they're only adding servers instead of increasing the servers population size. they've also said they're not planning character transfers (yet). they should at least increase the size of the servers with the longest queues imo.
felt like the tank had invested in dps gear or something.
Shouldn't really matter at this level, I'm playing a sith juggernaut with dps gear and dps talents, and when I go in my tanking stance, I can still tank fine. I tanked hammer station and a bunch of 4 man heroics so far, so he was probably just a shit tank :P
I've been checking this game out and really like the bounty hunter class.
Then I found stats that suggest Empire has a much higher percentage of players then republic. I looked at the Republic classes and none of them grab me, least of all the Trooper.
I wonder if the sides will balance out more when SWTOR is released proper.
My collector's edition just arrived from Amazon, hell yeah!
Wow, the collector's edition is extremely high quality, I'm pretty impressed. The statue isn't like some flimsy cheap one, its solid resin with a heavy base, and it even came in its own box and styrofoam packaging and stuff inside the big box.

george lucas is skilled in the fine art of action figure manufacturing
so it turns out my assassin can tank pretty well... if i have three people healing me.
hammer station was pretty good. pissed that the final boss knocked me off the platform which forced me back to the imperial fleet. i missed out on loot :(
I'm playing an Assassin too, I seem squishier than I would like, but Hogfather was keeping me alive pretty well last night in the Hammer Station thingo.
It's good so far, I'm enjoying it. Next instance is 21 or something right?
Decided to shelf my operative and rock my bounty hunter as main. BH Healing is really what I wanted to do originally and while operative gets an awesome HoT at 20 I just don't like him being a melee based fighter.
Yeh Athiss, I ran it late last night. Tougher than Station.
Yeah, I really liked Athiss, I thought it was much better than Hammer Station. Hammer station I thought was a bit meh, except for the bit where you cross the bridge while the huge gun is firing. That was hilarious, cos my entire group (minus me, because I'm not a retard) was running over the bridge when it disappeared and the gun fired and they all got smashfucked into the next galaxy. Apart from that section though, I thought it was a bit short and a bit dull.
Athiss was cool though, more interesting environment, and cool little bits like being able to slice the wardroid and make it help you, and the whole creepy cultist vibe was nicely done. Plus the last boss is the first boss that actually required something different besides just tanking and spanking. If theres one place that flashpoints really fall down for me so far, its how dull and straight-forward the boss fights are, not a lot of very interesting mechanics in play yet.
I've got the quests to do the Mandalorian flashpoint now, and the one after that, might have to tackle those tonight.
I dunno about you guys, but I can't seem to get the fuck on with questing! I end up doing an instance, hitting up some trainers, exploring different areas, messing about with my crew, etc. Such an enjoyable experience playing something where I can get "lost" in the world.
Reminds me of one Sunday morning, a very long time ago where I got a thrill out of riding my mount from Underworld to Booty Bay.
^ yeah I get lost sometimes too. I love the crafting system so i'll just sit in town and splice for an hour while watching mythbusters haha. Maybe it's just because it's new and fresh but i'm loving this so much more than wow.
Also DGK sent me my CD key. Digital Deluxe retail code activated!
I dunno about anyone else, but I really enjoying the space missions. Sure its just an on-rails shooter, and its not very challenging, but theres something about it that is just fun, like old fashioned simple fun. I mean, graphically they look great, and the epic music is cranking, and you've got all the Star Wars peww peww laser sounds going off, I just love it.

You'll get a story quest around level 15 or so that'll end with you getting a ship. At least that's what happened with my Bounty Hunter.
SWG Space missions were much better imo.
I don't know, I always found the SWG space thing to play like a slower version of the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series. ToR's space stuff actually felt like fun, not a slow chore.
is anyone having trouble with Mako? i have items gear i want her to equip (it the gear you get when you go to the imperial station) and yet when i try to equip it, just says that i require mako..

well my games fucked. was running along in balmorra and saw someone running on the spot. got close to them and the game froze and stopped responding. now when i try to get back in the game stops responding on the loading screen :/
Well it's been over an hour and still not here. Tried sending a tiny amount from a fresh character and that arrived so it's some bug between just those 2 character since I still can't get mail from him. even if it's only 1 credit.
Holy shit, I just did the Mandalorian Flashpoint earlier, its a HUGE step up in difficulty from Athiss, pretty fun though.
Yeah I ran this with 2 mates the other night, we were too low for it, I was 23 they were 20 and 21. The fight against the 4 imperials that board the ship was intense and a huge spike in difficulty compared to everything else upto that point.
We got through it in the end, and the final boss was a cakewalk in comparison.
Fuck me! ... loaded up the game and no queue at all! Loaded right in to the character select screen.
yeah, last night's Q's were weirdly low. loaded up and i was in queue #789 and figured i'd chuck on arrested development while i was waiting. 5-10 minutes into the show i was already in the character screen.
and got my ship last night! space battle are pretty damn fun. just a really fun arcade mini-game. Love it how you can actually move around the ship while ship sets coords and travels to the destination. it's the little things that make this game awesome.
SWG space stuff was good, I can only hope one day SOE make SWG 2. I loged on straight away too last night. Thats a lot fo credits, DM, You earn that much at later levels?
Honestly, even if you don't want to get into it hardcore, its worth playing for the story, and you can play that as casual or at whatever pace you want
If anyone is playing sniper like me, I thought i'd share a tip I worked out. Then I saw on the forums it's a common thing. Well I didn't know!.
When you charge up ambush/snipe, if you mash the explosive probe key, it'll cast that before the shot lands. So you can start casting ambush and just as you fire it, you can call the probe and have it blow up instantly doing massive burst. If you are engineer spec that sets up even more crazy damage with cluster bombs.
So how long does the maintainence go for. I'll be spewing if I cant play later tonight. GG shutting down smack on Australian Peak Time (albeit it isn't technicially released for Australia...)
Well my game no longer crashes but my FPS is horrible and pretty much unplayable, even though my PC should be fine (i7 2600k, 8gb ram, 6950). Have tried reinstalling, but that didnt make a difference.
Could be overheating issues, I was having slow downs when my CPU heatsink was a little loose. Have you done anything recently to your system? Is your anti-virus scanning wile your playing? have you cleaned out for PC so its free from dust clogging eveything? Disable and non essential programs.
Heh, yeah, I have the week off work so I've been hitting it pretty hard. The story is just too awesome though, makes me not want to stop playing.
I think its going to do pretty damn well, cos it already seems to be attracting people who might not normally play an MMO. Like my brother for example was watching me play the other night, and he liked the look of it so much he went and grabbed himself a copy (well, he got me to get him a copy). Hes never really played an MMO at all, and wouldn't normally even consider it.
After that there's other stuff to download too Cemax >.<
I keep opening/closing the patcher, as it starts out at 2Mb/S (after it resumes where it left off) then slowly loses speed to about 250kb/s.
Seems faster to keep opening/closing it hah
3rded - HotCDKeys as legit and key entered and accepted.
thanks pixem!
4thrded.. just bought it and worked fine... only downloading at 250kbs again though

I might try this :P
edit: comeon EA! downloaded BF3 at 2mbps you can do it here too!
Thought i'd just add my thoughts on pvp so far with 3 types of characters. Highest is only 24 so this is more of a lowish medium level outlook.
Bounty Hunter - healing and Pyro merc specs: Well for healing it wasn't too bad. Most trouble I have though comes from the fact the UI is bugged and stops updating 99% of the time. So I have 1 guy near me nearly dead but the frames show him as close to full HP and greyed out as if he is out of range. Pyro i've found to be rather crappy TBH but has a LOT of pressure. Fusion missile, incendiary missile, your cylinder DoT and rail shot will all come in handy. Only trouble is heat, due to the fact I havn't enough points to get the venting proc so I'm always running out. All in all I did'nt really enjoy pvping as a bounty hunter.
Operative - Healing spec: I didn't try to DPS as this guy because i'm not a fan of melee. Most I did was the odd shiv and stuns. Anyway healing with this guy is pretty awesome. Summon 2 HoT drones on everyone and just run around spamming kolto injection or your channeled heal which with tallents crits over 50% of the time and eventually returns 2 energy per crit. Very handy. Same as the BH spec I did alright with this. Operative made me feel happy that I was able to keep Lv 50s alive long enough for backup to arrive and just outlive people.
Sniper - Engineer spec: I took this guy into pvp at level 11 just to see what it would be like. Not only did I utterly destroy people but since i've hit 13 now, i've racked up nearly 450 commendtations and i've only played maybe 4 or 5 games. This alone made me decide to stick with sniper. Their shots are incredible. Ambush for 3.5k crit which leads into an instant explosive probe for another 2000 or so if lucky = a metric ton of burst damage. I havn't even unlocked some of my best shots yet and realise that sniper is a force to be reckoned with. 35 rooting shot, 30 yard flashbangs (I think, MUCH longer range than operative) on top of a melee range stun. This class has a lot of escape options. While most of their good shots need cover this really isn't a big deal i've found. If someone gets too close you can just escape rather easy. Love this class.
I have a trooper alt on swiftsure, It was going well until I got my first companion......I hate him....Now I do not want to play my Trooper. The ability to pick and choose what companion I want would be a welcome addition in a future content patch/expansion. Its great they have a story for us to enjoy and immerse ourselves in but some choice would be great. How about let us create out own companion, that would be cool, even if its limited to male or female.
Just my 2cents.
Aside from that, this game is awesome. I love the blaster fire sounds, I live how I can mostly run around and shoot at things and the abilities are cool.

you get multiple companions throughout the game. if you can tough it out early, you'll get the next one.
anyone know if I can ghost copy the install dir of SWTOR from my platter drive to my SSD and it'll still work?
Havent yet had a chance to play this, probably wont for a few more days :(
Yeah should be fine Mephz. The files are just like WoW in that they are easy enough to copy around to different drives, it will just check upon loadingup the launcher to make sure all the files are working.

Can confirm that swtor install is portable, shunted one to a laptop the other day to keep an eye on slicing!
Got around to putting in my CC details and now apparently I have 25 days of game time. Wasn't it suppose to be 30 days of game time or are they counting the 5 days since launch when I couldn't play because I didn't have an active account?
If I was going to go republic it would be a trooper as well. They get the best looking companions, not to mention that war mech guy who is just awesome as hell by the looks of things. But I have too much effort in empire to switch I think to just change sides now.
The only companion I look forward to for the trooper is the Big War Droid or whatever it is. Ill never switch to the Republic but I will have a couple of alts.
I have my own apprentice now on my Sith Warrior. Theres this jedi padawan you get as a companion, but I corrupted her and turned her to the dark side, so now shes this sadistic, murder-loving sith sex machine. Whenever I have conversations with her, so far it always seems to be about killing, or fucking, or both.
Also did the Foundry tonight, it was pretty awesome, it has HK-47 in it and Spoiler: Revan!
I am Protocol Droid Y7-D9 of Human-Cyborg Relations... I have received your transmission regarding the issues you are having with the mail system. In other words, fuck you. Even had to wait a week for that reply so their customer service really seems to suck ass. What are the GMs for if they can't help with issues like this? It's not like I sent 60k to an alt and then deleted the character and want my money back. This is an error on their part with mail not arriving to intended people and yet they won't help. Jesus christ.

Seems EA/Bioware have the worst Indian support ever. Ah well, games good enough.
Yeah, their customer support is pretty shit, they really need to address that. I had the same experience when I put in a ticket before the early start, about a problem I was having with my pre-order key. First ticket got completely ignored, so after a week I put in a second ticket, which then took another week to get responded to, and then the guy responding didn't even seem to understand my problem let alone have have a solution for it.
Been tempted to make a Fus Roh Dah video of my Sith Warrior using Force push to fling people off cliffs. God thats fun, like flinging dudes off the Elysium in Alderaan. Although, I've done it in a couple of Flashpoints, and the guy I fling off the edge doesn't end up dying from the fall, and runs back through the entire Flashpoint to get to me and brings a train of death with him. Still hilarious though :P
Well the game is going down for about 7 hours either later today or tomorrow sometime. This is apparantly what's being fixed.
the unload bug for bounty hunters is quite annoying.. when you use unload sometimes it just keeps firing even when the target is dead and you are running away from it..
Finding it to be as much of a grind as WOW. Got around to grouping up for some quests and found some annoying things like companion health bars not updating in party window and not being able to hit a party members target hotkey twice to target their companion.
Yer I'm happy, so far at least, with the very minimal down time. Even when you are heading into a hub for whatever reason you can send your companion off to craft/gather resources.
I'm finding it extremely easy to level up, even possibly too easy. I think they could have made the levelling curve more gradual and made it take more time because I've been doing most of the stuff on each planet and I'm now waaaaaaay too high for the quests that I'm up to. Quesh is like a level 36 - 37 planet for example, and when I got there I was already level 40.
I would like to see some alternative routs when it comes to leveling. Its great that each class has its own story and how things go but I would like a little more variety. Probably get more planets to level on as times goes on. Would be cool to come to a planet that has some high level missions/content and some low level stuff as well.
There is Blade. You can do PVP for levelling, or some planets have scalable dailies or higher quests as well as low. Draas has a few high level quests, as I saw some level 25's still on there doing stuff.
To get to the end you have to at a minimum do your class story.
ps. space bar lets you skip the cinematics.
I've been playing Sith Inquisitor and loving every minute of the cinematics... the story line is awesome too... I've heard some of the other class stories are a tad more dull though?

Ahh I see, Thats a good start. I like my Sith Assassin but I think Ill switch my main to my BHM. I can tank elites and champions plus Mako is cool-bananas.
Yeah, I got kicked off when it went for maintenance with < 2000xp to level, so I waited around... took forever to come back up, and Bioware wasn't giving very good (any) explanation or defined ETA. Thankfully they came back up, I levelled, and now I'm going to bed.

Eh, it's not that bad in the linear sense. I can do the quests two different ways most of the time. But some quests I've done, it felt as if all 3 choices could bring me down a new way.
Agree totally Eorl.
What will make this different for me was that in WoW I really could not be bothered to roll another class and do it all over again. In SWTOR I can't wait to level cap by BH (which I am enjoying) so I can start another class.
Yeah lots of people saying not only are the returns about 1/2 of what they were before, but missions also COST more to send people out on. So whats the point of it if it actually makes you lose money. Well I have enough for my speeder and to fund me for good while. Also they may change it back so good thing it's on my alts.
Probably brought it into line with what it should have been. It seems it never properly levelled with your skill level, and was giving a higher amount of profit. Though if it is costing more to actually send your companion out and returns aren't enough to cover the cost and more, then yeah, they may have nerfed it more.
Slicing was only really good until your late 30s I hear; at that point he 10-20k per hour is no longer that amazing.
The problem is that they don't have level caps on skill advancement. This means they can't have an income skill that is tuned to higher levels without making the lower level game's major purchases like speeders irrelevant.
Personally I think the idea of essentially crafting money is a bit stupid, why even bother with a crafting skill at that point, may as well just have a button that says "Click here for money". The nerf makes sense if Slicing is meant to be more about acquiring schematics and stuff, than just a no-effort source of money.
I've been crafting implants and selling those on the AH and its given me more than enough income, got about 600k credits at level 40 now after buying level 2 speeder bike riding. People pay stupid amounts of money for implants, cos there hardly ever seems to be any good ones on the AH
You get "mission" items for other crafting skills, which usually give at least 1 blue when completed. You also get the chance of gaining random Augments, which are used to upgrade armour and items. An example, this Augment.
slicing is for people that don't want to craft and sell items.
Well if you want to be lazy and not put in any work, you take what you can get :P
I dunno, I guess I'm just old fashioned, I don't see the point in crafting skills for people who don't want to do crafting skills. Seems broken to me that there was a way to get stupid amounts of money without putting in absolutely any effort, so it makes sense that it was nerfed. It may also (hopefully) promote a better economy if less people take slicing for easy profits, and actually craft and sell stuff for other players instead.
But hey, I'm not making the game, and thats just my opinion, so who knows where it'll end up.

So you craft ... you just lost slicers as potential customers as did all the other crafters. And crafters lose money crafting... I can't see how this isn't lose lose for everyone.
There is nothing wrong with the concept of slicing. The issue is with a very basic and unblanced economy.
The problem, as I see it, is that there isn't enough complexity. All there is manufacturing and consumption. Every player is a consumer and is encouraged to be a producer to the point where almost every player will be a producer.
The economy of the world really needs to step up a few notches. Instead of having complete items generated by a player, a player should be able to produce parts as well as items. These parts should then be able to be used by a larger entity such as a guild manufactureing plant to produce items. Parts could be used to build items or upgrade manfucatring plants, or even be part of the building of a manufactured plant.
These plants can then produce items for players and for NPC vendors. Perhaps the rate of plant output interacts with the rate of item drops from raids and so forth. Of course plants would require power and other logistics which players could fill as a need instead of crafting parts (and items).
Anyway as far as MMO's have developed since everquest and UO the economy models of these worlds have barely moved forward since the first iteration. Eve has a complex economy, perhaps SWTOR could take some ideas from them.
Eiether way, the crafting skills are a very outdated economy model and seriously need an overhaul to keep players interested in playing (the ones that don't care too much about raiding but want to contribute to the world).

SWG crafting system was the best and most complex I've seen in a MMO let alone other games. Also the Bazaar (AH) had a limit of 6k for any item from what I remember. I probably would have been playing SWG up until recently if SOE SWG Devs did not screw up the game.
Also what other types of economy can you have in an MMO? Eve's seems complex and I have no idea how it really works.
Queues at 10am, yeesh. Loving this Smuggler that I rolled last night, holy shit is she funny. Dialogue options are hilarious, being able to say "where is mah money biatch!" is just awesome.
armormech is fun. I dropped slicing now that it's been nerfed and picked up underworld trading. Easy way to get lots of affection with your companion because you can just send them off to collect gifts.
Meh I am enjoying SW but it more about being a single player game with good story line to me.
Plus since people were able to level from 1 to max and clear all the content already I am not sure I can see the dev's keeping up with stuff (much the same as wow people will get bored).
Apparently Slicing hasn't been nerfed, but put back into what it should be like. You take a chance on just getting lockboxes, and you can either break even, gain a little, or lose credits by being unsuccessful. Which makes sense to me at least. And also it seems they have scaled it better as well.

Don't measure yourself against the tiny hardcore percentage, they aren't representative of the general population. There will always be the people who play it ridiculous amounts and get to max level in the first week, or clear new content in the first week or whatever, but they're a tiny, tiny slice of the pie and the vast majority of people don't play like that.
From what I can tell, the majority of the population is somewhere between mid-20's and low 30's, because I see people looking for groups for Mandalorian Raiders and Cademimu but not much beyond that. Very, very occasionally I see someone looking for a group for Boarding Party or Foundry, but it never seems to go anywhere. And I have never, ever been able to get groups for any of the instances I'm up to (Colicoid War Games or Red Reaper) because there just isn't enough people at that level. Or you can just go to the planets and look at the population numbers. Hundreds of people on the lower level planets, but when I'm on Hoth theres like 12 people.
Its not really in their best interests to make a game that caters for that 0.1% of players that are ridiculously hardcore and play it 20 hours a day, so don't bother comparing yourself with those people or using them as an example (unless of course you ARE one of those people, then I'd probably agree, this isn't the game for you). If you're just an average player, you'll get plenty out of the game I'm sure.
Apparently Slicing hasn't been nerfed, but put back into what it should be like.
Yeah, thats what initially confused me too, because during beta Slicing was like it was at launch, it was an absolute easy money cash cow of a skill. Then they fixed it during beta, but when the game launched it was back to being ridiculous. Guess they've just turned it back to how it was when they fixed it during beta now?
I think their level progression is a little too fast. I don't mind, for now as I'm always thinking, 'sweet level up'. I went about 3 or 4 levels without buying skills because I was out questing all that time.
I've been spamming the cybertech a fair bit got it to 82 at the moment. It is interesting watching the prices in the AH the same item, particularly crafting materials, can range a fair bit in price. I put that down to low liquidity 1 guy can be selling 10 stacks and be the only person selling it.
Leveling slows down after 35.
I am at 37 at the moment and still enjoying it. Haven't bothered with any of the flashpoints after athiss to many other dps characters trying to get in, makes it a struggle, will level a tank or healer next and enjoy the flashpoints more then.

Nah you're wrong.
Say a mission costs 1244 credits.
It suceeds ! you get 1100-1300 credits.
It fails ! you get 0 credits.
It has been "nerfed" no matter what way you spin it. To quote wiki
In video gaming a nerf is a change to a game that reduces the desirability or effectiveness of a particular game element
ie. it's been nerfed.
Basically slicing as a trade skill should be removed if this working as intended. It serves no practical purpose. In theory it is "mission discoveries" and Cybertech (for schematics). put mission discoveries randomly in all gathering skills, but schematics in investigation.
I seem to still be making money :S Are you trying to do lower level ones? I'm in the second bracket and making fine money when it comes back. I also sell the augments for great cash either via vendor or human.
Eorl you are just making shit up. If you are making more then 20credits a minute you'd be amazing. And that is people with 350+ skill making 20credits a minute.
You can run circles on hutta at level 10 killing trash and make more than that.
Try recording your actual results for say 4 hours, you'll change your mind.
The augments sell for jack shit to a vendor or an the AH, augments only go in player crafted crits.
Speaking of internet rage, the above post seems to be full of it. Seems like a difference of opinions rather then right or wrong.
Enjoying the survivability of my BH Merc, Almost finished Balmora. In the space missions is it possible to destroy one of those Republic Frigates/Battle-ships?
In the space missions is it possible to destroy one of those Republic Frigates/Battle-ships?
Not sure, but apparently once you get photon torpedos, its possible to take out the bridges of the big capital ships, and the big comm array thing at the bottom of the space stations. I dunno if it actually fully takes out the station/ship though, doubt it :(
I know in the early missions you can't. I was laying phasers and missiles into the bloody things, nigh impossible. And Obes, I respect your opinion, even if it comes across as insulting/rage worthy. Hell, I might be just lucky, who knows.
Well, I must say the overall experience is awesome, I've been questing with a few guys from here, rav0ns and DM... the way the questing system interacts with the entire party is friggin awesome.
Almost got ganked by a 36 jedi, they weren't expecting the backup from rav0ns and DM though, ended up tearing him apart!
Most people will do that with any nerf. Just look at the WoW forums when a class is even looked at in the patch notes. People want easy street, yet when they get it, they complain it's to easy. Then when it gets put in line, they complain that it has become to hard. That's people for you though.
Yeah slicing isn't a pure "only do lockbox missions" thing anymore but still has it's uses. On my powertech though I didn't even get that and have gone armortech/scavanging/underworld trading and have found that to be quite profitable if you sell the blues/purples you make. I've only done 1 instance past Lv 20 because i've been able to make and update all my own armor, nearly every level and i'm 34 now. If you craft a full set of blues or purples that's even better.
I'm making a meagre profit (a few k per hour) on bountiful and rich lockboxes still. I only do bountiful and above lockboxes and I never fail (at 400 slicing it seems to be unpossible to fail the lower tier grey lockbox missions). Plus I find a couple k per hour boxes in the wild while doing shit.
Its a lot of clicking to have 3 guys out every 15-30 minutes, but I think I'll keep slicing and see what money is to be made from augs when the major player wave hits 50. At the moment they are useless because nobody is making or finding gear with aug slots.
I've been selling heaps of implants with aug slots on the AH, any time you craft a piece of gear and get a critical success it adds an aug slot, so there should be plenty of gear floating around with aug slots by now. Its not purely a level 50 thing or anything like that.
Also, something I just learned the other day, your rep (or affection or whatever) with your companions also affects the speed they craft and do missions at, and their chances for critical success.

Yeh people can use aug slots now but there's not enough people crafting midlevel exceptional gear, and there's not enough demand from people levelling to buy the stuff. Crafting is expensive and a good chunk of the playerbase is putting it off largely until 50, especially as they won't have slicing to supplement their income anymore. Also buying level 35 gear is for chumps haha.
There's also a lot of people trying to make a buck out of slicing who are trying augs now.
Its just not viable until the playerbase matures and people are gearing for heroics imo.
I have not sold anything on the AH, Resources I could though but I am not strapped for cash at the moment. Lv21 now too and about to head to Nar Shaddar.
Also, something I just learned the other day, your rep (or affection or whatever) with your companions also affects the speed they craft and do missions at, and their chances for critical success.
This I did not know (in Spock voice).
Time to use my gather skills for companion items and max affection!
I've sold a fair bit on the AH. Got a few purple schematics that I use to make ear pieces and other bits'n'bos through cybertech. Also seems not a lot of people take scavaging because there are always piles around the map to scavange for easy access to materials.
I've got a purple ear piece, lvl 19 that also has [supiror] tag to it. I expect to be able to sell that for 1500-2500 depending on what other people are selling at the time. At a cost of 500ish to make (at the moment since half the materials are free from manual scavaging).
Basically, as far as I can tell. I create gems/lightsaber components/color crystals etc. and also find lockboxes/gifts/gems/color crystals with the other skills.
I have a Scoundrel now at level 22 on Nar Shadar, but I'm going to be levelling up my Jedia Sage now, so much better at healing. Scoundrel only has 2 heals at the moment, one requires the other to cast and then wait for a DOT which it consumes. What was annoying with the Scoundrel is that they gave you this really piss weak heal, heals for 33 damage over 3 secs and is channeled. 33 healing...at level 22.
Sage seems to be very like a druid, with a huge amount of HoTs. Will be lots of fun, as I enjoyed druids in WoW.
Even with the slicing nerf I'm still selling my purple quality level 37 implants for 30k+, so I'm happy. I've got some level 45 implants now, gonna try them at 50k and see what happens.
Slicing used to bring in $20,000 credits per hour, per companion at roughly level 30 slicing
Typo that'd be you being wrong. I'd make maybe 20k in 5 hours, (a guildy made 100k in a day ... but he played for something like 14hours oO). I made 5k in 90mins running laps on drumond kass at level 10. And that was just vendoring greens. I am sure if I chose somewhere more appropriate for my level I'd pull more. This was handy because I could "slice" while doing other things, send them off for a mission come back in 15mins. I did't have to sit at my PC for hours (endlessly mashing a button pretending it takes skill).
Crafting had its own benefits, long term BOP items etc etc that slicers were giving up for short term gain (or because they didn't have the time to run around farming nodes).
I'll agree there was a problem, and it was easily solved, level caps on tradeskills, or have a fixed return rate. Regardless it smacks of piss poor beta testers. And the communication is getting worse, they are now using reddit instead of their forums to communicate to their users oO.
I am surprised that you are arguing old mmo's never had it therefor this shouldn't. Bad logic.
And you weren't trolling typo, you can't troll. Far too angry for that.
And acquiring Augments... And acquiring special missons... And acquiring cybertech schematics... And harvesting secure containers.
Dante ... really ? ... since a slicer can't really do any trade skills (with out a bucket of cash to buy off crafters) because they gave up gathering to do slicing, they probably won't have progressed their mission skill to the point were the quests are useful (they don't sell for much) and augments currently sell for fuck all.
Back to not having scavenge so the schematics are useless personally. They don't seem to sell that well on the AH either.
Perhaps I did it to find bugged out chests / secure containers ? (most of them are still bugged on our server).
I honestly think they need to get rid of slicing, or give it to everyone as an optional 4th crew skill at this point.
Also the GTN is super slow now ... hard to sell items (least it doesn't charge a fee like the WOW AH, but the 50 item limit is lame). I am putting it down to the GFC (galactic financial crisis), without slicers the economy has dried up!
Slicing sounds like something that disavantages people without it, therefor as Obes says give it to everyone. It would cause inflation though surely with multitudes of players printing credits. I've said it before, the economy needs to be more complex with greater diversity then simply producers, they need facilitators and so forth.
Except this more complex economy you propose hinges on the assumption that players would actually take part in it, when realistically, most wouldn't. Hence the reason MMOs usually go with the simple approach.
Even without slicing you do make a ton of credits just leveling and selling what you find, be it junk, useless greens or AHing blues or purples. I only sent my powertech enough money to buy 2 extra bag lines (next will cost 40 or 50k) with 5k for spending money. Without slicing, and the full armortech skill line (scavenging and UWT too) i've managed to make over 300k all up though I only have about 220 now.
It payed for my speeder, my skills which now cost about 20k each and tons of other stuff. I'm not running to the AH every few levels because I can craft my own gear for me and my companions and Heroics give you awesome orange armor rewards, and I take commendations a lot because of never needing the greens from the quests. This lets me get orange weapons or purple loot boxes to sell.
It may not seem it but on Taris I really noticed quests started giving you at least 1000c per hand in. Sometimes more and sometimes you get a blue credit case which can have up to 7000c in it. It really adds up fast so the slicing nerf isn't all that bad once you start hitting the higher end of the game.
Mine you even with this guy having a decent amount of money I still have a little fortune on my operative who could fund my next speeder cost 2 times over so i'm in no danger of going broke anytime soon.
Even with the slicing nerf I'm still selling my purple quality level 37 implants for 30k+, so I'm happy. I've got some level 45 implants now, gonna try them at 50k and see what happens.
What server are you on?
Purple 30s augs on Swiftsure sell for 3-5k. The most exxy aug on the server is a 23k level 49 purple. This is why the market for augs isn't viable yet (compared to say, biochem ...)
No. I've got 400 slicing. I also knew the nerf was coming and exploited the fuck out of slicing. The numbers you made near, at, or just past 40 was amazing. Simply collecting slicing nodes on planet while levelling, and sending my three remaining companions out on slicing missions got me more than 250k a day of play on my main. Now all of my alts are literally rolling in money with little or no effort.
I'd make maybe 20k in 5 hours
I'm sorry that you didn't have the ability to exploit slicing to it's fullest.
I made 5k in 90mins running laps on drumond kass at level 10
I made 5k just from slicing nodes in Grathams Estate. Hell, I made about 5k at Gatham's estate tonight on an alt.
I did't have to sit at my PC for hours
What kind of terrible argument is that? Do you want epics to just fall out of the sky for you too?
Crafting had its own benefits, long term BOP items etc etc
Yeah, after you spend literally most of your money grinding up skills on useless shit.
that slicers were giving up for short term gain
Short term being the entire levelling section of the game. By the time you get to end game, there is plenty of money to be had.
or have a fixed return rate.
Other collection crew skills tend not to make money from their away missions. They are used to grind up the skill, or get additional components to grind up the crafting crew skill. It's generally a money sink, not a endless tap of money.
Regardless it smacks of piss poor beta testers.
Again you show your total ignorance on the matter. This was raised many times in testing. Believe it or not, it was nerfed a few times during beta. Everybody from beta knew that slicing was going to get the nerf stick. Everybody from early access knew that slicing was going to get a nerf; those with a brain at least.
And the communication is getting worse, they are now using reddit instead of their forums to communicate to their users oO.
If you're company was focused at gaming, you'd be pretty retarded to not use tools like reddit to communicate with your users. It's also disingenuous to imply that they have used places like reddit over their other forms of communication. Everything they've posted on reddit has also been put in their forums.
And you weren't trolling typo, you can't troll
Poor effort. F-
Far too angry for that.
It was aggressive mixed with disappointment, and for one reason: you've been playing MMOs for more than a decade, and you've joined the ranting bitch fest that is the general forums on an issue that you /should/ know is wrong. You've turned into the blubbering vagina that you've always hated, and you deserved to be treated the way you've treated those vaginas in the past.
Slicing, in it's previous form was simply broken, and anybody exercising that skill set was either exploiting or getting ready to exploit it. Maybe you're still at level 15 or something, where you didn't have the companions, nor the in game time, to get slicing into the spectacularly retarded money making machine that it was, but you are clearly ignorant about how much money you could make.
I'll give you an example of how good it was. At level 25 I not only purchased riding, and my speeder, but I purchased them for a quite a few of my guild mates. By 35 I pumped about 500k in either alts or materials for crafting. It was literally easier to do slicing missions to raise enough money to purchase hundreds of components on the GTN than it was to collect or run relevant missions myself. At one stage the easiest way for me to get epic might mods (for an alt) was to buy epics from the GTN, rip out the purple might mods, and vendor the rest of the items. That kind of wealth isn't healthy for an economy (roughly 10k per level 20 epic).
since a slicer can't really do any trade skills ... because they gave up gathering to do slicing
No. They normally give up their missions crew skill that give blue components for crafting. This was easily compensated by the hundreds of thousands of credits that they had at their disposal. I know my crafting never suffered by a lack of mission skills because I could simply buy it from the GTN.
At the end of the day Obes, you're on the wrong side of the argument. If you were arguing that they maybe swung the nerf bat a bit too hard, I'd probably tend to agree, but bitching and moaning with the arguments from the general forum is pathetic and wrong.
Good news though, there's a buff for slicing inbound. I don't imagine it's going to a big buff, I expect that moderate missions should be cash positive, and on long time lines the free cash per hour should go up a little bit.
Purple 30s augs on Swiftsure sell for 3-5k. The most exxy aug on the server is a 23k level 49 purple. This is why the market for augs isn't viable yet (compared to say, biochem ...)
Of course, in the past if you were getting level 30 augs from lock box missions, you probably made a shit tonne of money, hell you probably made 500 clear on that mission alone. To get a level 49 purple pattern from reverse engineering probably cost that fucker about 100k in mats. There's the major difference. Biocrafting is a credit sink, that costs you hundreds of thousands of credits between 1 and 400. Slicing, in it's prenerf state would easily make more than 500k.
Yeah, I'm trying to get the pattern for a purple level 45 tanking implant, and so far I've had to make 12 green versions of the implant and reverse engineer them to get the blue version I wanted, and I'm up to 46 blue ones I've made and reverse engineered and still don't have the purple one I want. I constantly have all my companions away on Bioanalysis and Diplomacy missions to get me mats, like as soon as they come back I send them straight off again for 1.5k - 2.5k a hit. I then use those mats to make implants, which I then reverse engineer and destroy. Sure, when I eventually get the epic quality schematics, I'll be able to sell the implants for a lot, but I've put soooooooo much time, and money and mats into getting there, its a huge time and money sink.
Not that I mind, theres definitely benefits, like medpacks and stims that never run out, and personally I think its a much more useful skill to take than Slicing anyway because I never had money problems while levelling up and money is easy to make once you're max level. Theres so much money just coming in from missions and selling junk now that even while constantly sending 4 companions away on missions, my overall credits keeps going up.
I usually throw every single BoE I get on the AH too, whether its green or blue or purple, and a lot of them sell. Since you get your deposit back if it doesn't sell I find its worth the effort
I remember when WoW came out I was fully intrigued and even went so far as to actually play the game. I enjoyed it for maybe about 15-20 hours before it became an incredibly repetitive grind. I liked the big world and the lore and everything but I just don't think mmorpgs are for me.
Is Old Republic an mmorpg for people who don't like mmorpgs or is it just a traditional mmorpg which I won't like?
To me it feels like a whole new MMO. It takes WoW, and expands on it. The story keeps you well interested, and the dialogue is fresh and different. This is probably the first MMO where I actually want to make new alts, like I'm doing now, to experience their storylines. And even doing the same quests doesn't feel mundane, because I can have completely different choices depending on class. It's definitely different to your standard MMO, where I really felt I had to level 1 class to top level so I could actually enjoy the end game.
Typo that'd be you being wrong. I'd make maybe 20k in 5 hours
Sorry Obes, you'd be wrong here. Typo pretty much financed mounts for 6 people at 25 based on his returns from slicing. Those he didn't finance had already taken slicing.
Dante ... really ? ... since a slicer can't really do any trade skills (with out a bucket of cash to buy off crafters) because they gave up gathering to do slicing,
No you give up your mission skill. Worst case scenario, you can't do blues (but you can level just fine into the 300s with greens). Alternatively you can buy the blues on the AH. Oh and before you say "it's balanced because then you sell the blues on the AH", only in fantasy land could you make even a guaranteed 20k in 5 hours on bio-chem blues. The market isn't there yet. And the amount of effort required to do so vastly more than what slicing requires.
they probably won't have progressed their mission skill to the point were the quests are useful (they don't sell for much) and augments currently sell for fuck all.
Without slicing, you either haven't progressed your crafting skill, haven't progressed your character training or don't have a mount. You don't have the money to do all three. We have all three types in Geek Legion.
And "augments currently sell for fuck all" is a symptom of the problem. The only people making enough money to make augments worthwhile compared to slicing lockboxes was the people making the augments.
Back to not having scavenge so the schematics are useless personally. They don't seem to sell that well on the AH either.
Perhaps I did it to find bugged out chests / secure containers ? (most of them are still bugged on our server).
I'm not saying that Slicing doesn't need a buff. What i'm countering is your assertion that Slicing is only useful as a cash pinata via missions. My point is that it has other functions, these functions may need a buff but pre-nerf you couldn't see the forest for the retarded money tree. Having said that, your objections come across as a mixture of hyperbole and histrionics.
The only content I've missed so far is the daily heroic quests which don't lead to anything. I just find them kind of boring and the effort to get 4 people isn't worth it IMO.
Sipador - Swiftsure Sith Sorcerer. Enjoying the game now, just trying to figure out where everything is so I don't miss too much content.
You should be okay. Just make sure that when you make a decision between two planets you check your quest log. Sometimes you get two choices, but one is clearly the right one for your level (Balmora vs Nar Shadda)
Typo that'd be you being wrong. I'd make maybe 20k in 5 hours
BTW, to add someone's attempt at real data to this. check out the "Pre-Nerf glory days" tab on this link.
There were some lockbox quests that averaged 6000 credits an hour. Thats one companion, pulling in 6000 credits an hour. How is it possible to argue that 6000 credits an hour for a 25-32 mission and all but 6000 credits an hour for a 17 17-24 mission is balanced?
What's this massive money sink I keep hearing about to level crew skills?
Either you guys are doing it wrong or Armstech is OP. I sat down and levelled it from 100 to 230 last night and it cost me 2k in vendor components + my naturally collected scavenging mats, and I have shitloads of leftovers to plonk on the GTN. I've never done a scavo gathering mission aside from the first couple days messing around, mats seem to be everywhere (no doubt helped by there being so many harvestable droids).
I'll push it through to 300+ this morning and I'll probably have to stop there as I imagine the mats will be the next tier for scavenging.
It could be that the world seems to be full of scavenging nodes though I guess? Harvesting droids seems to help a lot.
Scavenging seems to be have a larger amount of nodes in the world then Archaeology, that's for sure. I find maybe 1 or 2 crystals in each section of the map.
Yer Hoggy, I've got my cybertech at 120ish. I have a purple[superior] scematic that I spend around 500 Credits to buy 2 purple materials and the rest are world scavanged and sell it for 3000K a pop, possibly more. 2500K profit and world scavaging takes bugger all time when I'm questing. Win.

Scavenging, and Bioanalysis, create their own nodes by killing certain mobs. Physical nodes are often hard to get on base planets.

Anything that builds off of scavenging, or Bioanalysis have a distinct advantage in building greens.

The money sink part comes when you're trying to get epic quality schematics. Because the way you learn blue quality, or purple quality schematics is by reverse engineering the stuff you make. So you make green quality stuff, reverse engineer it and have a random chance to get a blue quality schematic for that item, which will add another stat or two (or increase the existing stats).
I don't know about all crafting skills, but for Biochem for example, if I make a green implant and reverse engineer it, I have a random chance to get one of three blue improvements on that green one that adds a prefix to it. The prefixes are (from memory) Overkill, Critical and Reboubt. With overkill adding power, critical adding crit, and redoubt adding tanking stats. Usually takes me between five to ten green implants reverse engineered to get a blue schematic, but since its random you often wont get the one you want (I'm usually going for the tanking ones so I gotta keep making them and reverse engineering them till I get redoubt).
Then, you need to reverse engineer the blue ones, to get purple ones, and theres five different types of purple schematic that comes from each blue schematic. I can't remember the types off the top of my head, but they all add new stats or increase existing ones. Which means from every green item you can make theres 15 different purple improved versions of that item you can learn from reverse engineering. Thats where the money sink part comes in, cos you need to make a LOT of shit and then reverse engineer it, to learn those. Your mats also run out really fast when you're building that much stuff, hence the reason to have your dudes constantly doing missions to get mats, cos theres no way you can get enough just from farming nodes out in the world (and you need the blue and epic quality mats from mission skills to make blue and epic quality items).
On a non-crafting related topic, a few of us have been trying to run through all the flashpoints - we're around 37-39 at the moment so we just did The Foundry last night.
I must say all in all they're pretty dull. So much trash which is just so totally boring to clear, and the boss fights are, for the most part a simple tank and spank with maybe 1 different mechanic thrown in.
My main complaint is the amount of uninteresting trash that needs to be cleared to get to a boss. Surely you don't need to spend 45 minutes to get to a boss which takes only 5. Surely!
Also Biochem has great perks if you reverse engineer the medpacks and stims you can make. For example, reverse engineer a medpack and get a blue quality one, and it heals for more. Then reverse engineer the blue one and get the purple schematic and you can make a re-useable medpack that never runs out! Same with stims, reverse engineer your green quality stims and get blue ones that last 2 hours and persist through death, reverse engineer those and get purple reuseable ones that never run out.
Thats the main reason I took Biochem really, and I've probably saved thousands of credits just from never having to buy any supplies, plus its great being able to constantly use stims, adrenals and medpacks without having to worry about them being rationed in any way.

Heh, reminds me of Molten Core. That was a funnnn place filled to the brim with trash.

If you're looking for interesting group fights, go looking for the world bosses. It's not especially rewarding but it's some of the most fun you'll have in the game if you're looking for boss encounters.
Colicoid also had some interesting stuff in it. However too be fair, much more than that is something Bioware has to work up to for the majority of the server population. Unfortunately you're obviously too far ahead of the curve to be the target audience for many flashpoints.
You see, I get that about making schematics. But you only have to do it once then you own the schematic. Its an upfront investment and then profit.
Aug missions are gambling every single time - and they cost a few k each time, usually returning a garbage green / blue aug that you can only vendor. Right now they're just not worth running, and lockbox missions pay out tediously slowly. The only reason the skill is viable at all at the moment is the world boxes.
Also a tip for all healers and people who watch group bars generally, go into options and UI and turn on operations frames all the time. Will show your own health bar in the group list then ><

It also correctly shows their resource, however you do need to know whether a full bar or an empty bar means they are out of juice. (another bug imo)
Also windowed fullscreen has some bugs, won't let other windows sit on top of it, nor will it listen to v-sync (go figure). But you can fix it.

They were using it to get vsync to work properly, I used it so a window on my main screen can sit on top of SWTOR. It works as stupid as it seems. (if you aren't in fullscreen already make sure to start in fullscreen and set any settings you want there then fiddle with the windows mode.
I didn't really ever need to make things for the sake of making things, just to level it up, I just made the stuff I wanted to use and it levelled up naturally. My priority was every time I got a new med pack I would make it until I got the purple schematic, so just make green med packs, RE them, make blue medpacks, RE them, then make a purple one. Then I'd do the same for whatever the current highest might stim was, and then current highest fortitude stim (obviously make whatever stims are useful to you, I just make might and fort cos thats what I use). And by that point my Biochem would be levelled up enough that I could go back to a trainer and learn new recipes and usually had a new medpack or stims and started the process again.
If you don't make implants you might have some gaps as you level up, but I'd recommend making them when you can cos the ones you craft yourself (especially if you get them to blue or purple quality) shit on anything you'd find from quest rewards or commendation vendors or anything. And they sell for nice credits too if you have mats left over and can make a few extra.
I usually don't bother buying all the Biochem recipes from the trainer either while levelling up, just the ones I'm gonna use, cos at about 200+ recipes start getting pricey. I pretty much ignore adrenals too, I made some at early levels, and you might need to if theres a gap, but otherwise I'm just gonna wait till max level and make max level adrenals.
P.S. For those playing at home, here's a hint... there's only a limit on total crew skills and crafting skills. There are no limits on the number of gathering and mission skills.
Doesn't matter dante, look at how khel crafts successfully.
Notice how he stresses the doing re-engineering to get blue (and purple) recipes that then need the mission skill ?
You can't slice and craft in any useful way currently, before you could, because you could buy the mats off GTN. You can probably get to 400 skill in a craft still, just won't be a profitable exercise.
With 3 companions able to be actively slicing at the same time, that's roughly 17 playing hours. In that amount of time:
12,262 credits total net profit
238 credits average per mission
13 credits average per minute
End of the day, they just need to make it a 4th type of skill, let everyone pick it up for world chests, and operation shortcuts.
You can't slice and craft in any useful way currently,
Bullshit.
Making stims and meds for both myself and my guildies matches my definition of useful. Unless your defintion of useful is "makes me hojillions of credits on the GTN".
End of the day, they just need to make it a 4th type of skill, let everyone pick it up for world chests, and operation shortcuts.
Why not suggest that everyone's first character gets auto-leveled to 50 like all the other morons who have no idea what the fuck a good game is.
Khel I got a question on Biochem. Is it worth getting the blue/purple schematics for the lower level items or just level up Biochem until you get the higher schematics from the vendor and just reverse engineer that?
It wasn't a dig by the way, he seems genuinely upset about so much in this game. I hope I didn't make the wrong choice by buying it just now (stupid download is taking so long though).
Its fine, just don't split hairs over the little things. Its still a new game, additions and fixes will come along as times goes on. Its overall a great MMO, plus Its Star Wars.
Hey Obes, are actually enjoying yourself while playing this game? It doesn't seem like it at all.
It is ok.
The class quest line is a single player game with barrens chat.
The flashpoints and heroic content are ok as well.
The PVP operations are ok (bar huttball .. learn to pass the ball people ffs)
The AI is pretty dumb, and there are some stupid glitches (shit EQ had right 12 years ago eg. /follow). Even a full server has pretty empty feeling.
The full voiceover thing is a mixed thing. My dude says 4 lines very very often (gets old). And the dialogue is a bit meh for alot of quests particularly side ones, some of it is awesome however.
Khel I got a question on Biochem. Is it worth getting the blue/purple schematics for the lower level items or just level up Biochem until you get the higher schematics from the vendor and just reverse engineer that?
Well, I didn't bother getting blue/purple schematics for everything, just the stuff that would help me while I was levelling (like medpacks, or might/fort stims). Also only bothered getting about 3 or 4 implants up to blue/purple stage. I pretty much ignored adrenals, not gonna bother with them till max level.
1.) People getting emails from the admin saying they will be banned if they say the word fuck, even if you say this in a whisper to a friend.
2.) Being banned for "exploiting terms and services" by being a low level, on a high level 50 planet opening lock boxes and chests saying that this is exploiting items and like gold farming.
My brain is full of fuck. Who is running this admin team? EA?
Would be nice if there was some more choices with dialog. Its very black and white and can get annoying, anyone else know what I mean, also with Light and Dark points I want more options.
Create character, go to login, login bar gets stuck at 30% and doesn't move. Reloading the game doesn't fix it. I went to delete my char and re-roll (I hadn't even logged into the game ever at this point, just seen an incomplete loading bar) and get told that I can't delete the character as it's currently logged in (this is straight after restarting the game).
Amazing. Every fix I see for this issue has to do with pressing Alt-Z to dismiss your companion or something. I can't do this, because I've never played the fucking game let alone have a companion or something.
Help? :(
Edit: Amazing! I can't even create another character because I'm apparently still logged in... this is a dialogue box I'm receiving from the character select screen. Holy fucking shit.
I love my two characters I've been levelling up in regards to dialogue choices. Smuggler is hilarious, so much funny dialogue. My Consular is even better, very tongue in cheek. Haven't found it at all repetitive in the dialogue option, always fun when I log in, hasn't become a bore like what happened with WoW when I use to log in and sit in the city.
Haven't found it at all repetitive in the dialogue option
Well as a bounty hunter, a lot of the side quest responses are one of about 3 or so voice dialogue responses (different to the text you pick). Perhaps that is because my Bounty hunter picks the most violent option every time ? (then buys Mako's affection back with gifts).
My companion has 4 lines I think, I'd love the shut up option. She's not just a pretty side kick buster!
even if you say this in a whisper to a friend.
I call bullshit here unless their friend reported them, but then again it is EA.
Haven't found it at all repetitive in the dialogue option, always fun when I log in, hasn't become a bore like what happened with WoW when I use to log in and sit in the city.
Yeah, its fun and not a grind, but I do find the same thing as Obes a bit, even though the text I choose in conversations is different all the time (and rather funny at times just by itself), the actual lines my character says are the same in a lot of circumstances. Theres plenty of custom dialogue, but theres a few canned responses that get used a lot. Doesn't really bother me too much though, but it does become more and more noticeable the more you play and the more often you hear those responses.
My biggest problem is I've been hitting it hard and playing it heaps while I'm on holidays. Now I'm level 50 and want to do all these awesome sounding flashpoints like Red Reaper, Directive 7, Battle of Ilum and the False Emperor, but I can't get groups for any of them because nobody else is doing them :(
I doubt they'd ban for saying 'fuck' in a whisper to a friend.
Have you seen swiftsure Draamond general chat? Mother of god, it's basically a pissing contest of racism between Yanks and Aussie children abusing each other.
Ignore list, hopefully it does not have a cap!
pharcyde have you forced AA in the ini file? when i do that the game wont load.
khel that's what happens when you race ahead with a new mmo. i've read that some people have started exploiting on ilum by making lowbies on the opposite side and taking objectives because no one on the opposite side has reached ilum yet.
Apparently people are getting banned for gathering nodes that are in Illum, even though they legitimately have the skill high enough. Apparently it's considered "exploiting" and that you can get yourself banned, EA style.
If I try and wrap my mind around that whole thing I think blood will shoot out of my nose. They ban people for opening chests and using nodes on high level planets? Well how about you just put a minimum level limit on that planet then? DUH. Anyway I have 1 big issue not with this game but in games in general.
When you have a talking scene where someone is interupted, for the love of fuck please script it right so that the person interupting actually talks OVER the person who gets interupted. Don't do a lame pause between the 2 people talking like is in this game. It really shits me that such a simple thing is constantly fucked up in games. Doesn't this annoy anyone else?
We have a fair few guys interested in raiding and our core group is pushing through early 40s now.
Please head to http://www.itsatarp.net.au and POST if you want to be part of the raid team. With only 8/16 slots we'll probably fill pretty quickly, but its also important to know early what roles we're missing to ensure we have enough people to cover everything.
If you aren't Tarping yet its probably your last chance to get in before we recruit to fill the gaps ... which will probably be easy enough as we look to have tanks and healers mostly covered.
Are these bans legit or fakes though? Needs more evidence before I'd believe any of it.
The swearing seems fairly well made up considering the amount of swearing I've done, Drommund Kaas general chat and Fleet chat.
Farming the node one needs context, sounds like there's more to the story than just going to a high level planet as a low level character. If the devs didn't mean for this to happen, they would have implemented a level restriction.
The market one also sounds a bit fishy as it's the whole purpose of that feature in the game. Again, was it a case of buying/selling too many items per minute that is not possible by a human, ie: a bot is in place?

There is a massive thread about it on the official forums. Bit more explanation though. Going to a high level planet as a low level is fine. You can explore all you want. Only thing is with Illium there are lock boxes and chests in very open areas with little to no monsters around. So you can run around in there farming chests and such nearly all you want with no resistance. This is what they are calling exploiting.
Not sure about the swearing or market one as i've only seen screenshots of the email.

Then lock the fucking zone rather than banning players from your shiny new mmo!
Sheesh.
Everything comes back to the lack of level caps on crew skills. How in the world they thought that they could implement a sane crafting & gathering system without level caps is beyond me.
Yeah that is an issue with a lot of problems I feel. Even the slicing "problem" was due to people as low as lv 10 getting way to much money too fast. Should of just made it a tier system so when you are on say... nar shadaar which is a 21 - 24 planet, the highest your crafting can go is 210 to 240, Hoth would be 380 up to max like that. This way it forces you to play the game at least into your 20s before you can even start to exploit any possible area of crafting.
Even if they are new to the MMO scene, don't go banning people because they raised their crafting higher then their level, and need to visit these high level areas to actually make items. And they also need to make sure they clearly say what is and isn't exploiting. Exploiting is usually using a broken mechanic for gain over and over. But when you have to go to a planet to progress in crafting, that isn't exploiting, that is the game saying go do it.
Server Maintence from Jan 4th 6pm -> 2AM. I realllllllllly hope that when they make the Aus server they do staggered maintence time, although I suspect they wont.

Being in Do Not Disturb mode no longer prevents characters from being logged out for being away.
Hmm I wonder if publishing this ahead of the patch is the cause of the unusually high queues this afternoon. Haven't seen it over 1k on Swiftsure in a week or two.
Shit, still no fix on the party chat bug issue?
anyone know how to fix this? Last night I had to whisper to multiple different people to coordinate a flashpoint. It was extremely tiresome.
Ctrl-U twice did not fix.
Creatig new chat box did not work. Being kicked from guild and reinvited didn't work (did fix the guild chat though which was also broken).
Unticking all the chat box options/logging out/logging in and re-enabling etc. nothing.
Hoping next time I play tonight it's sorted itself out as its pretty game breaking not being able to party with randoms for basic heroics etc.
We have a ways to go yet; only one 50 and a buncho people low 40s and 30s. There's a few people over leveling now who I expect will grind it out to get onto heroics and 400 crafting etc. ASAP.
I'd imagine wel'll be getting the core group to 50 later this week / early next, and then start gearing. We could maybe take our first pot shot at the vault towards the end of jan depending how that plays out.
The difficulty is the big level spread, it's a delicate balance. We have people from 15-50 ATM who are interested in end game raids when they get there, and a raid squad is only 16 people. We don't want to bleed 50s but I don't want to recruit people if we have the numbers coming..
After much screwing around trying to create my first character on Swiftsure (like I said in my last post, the loading screen freezing constantly), I had to go to a different server, create a new dummy character (which logged in first time), delete that character, then go back to Swiftsure to create my toon.
I made sure I didn't log out at all yesterday due to the massive server queue. I wake up this morning to log into my new level 13 character, boom, loading screen is frozen again. There's no server queue according to the server status, and again I am able to go to a different server to create a character which logs in fine, it's just my actual character on Swiftsure that won't log in. When I close the game and log back in to the Swiftsure character select screen, if I try to create a new Swiftsure character it tells me that my current character is logged in already so I can't (even though the load bar freezes at 40%).
Heaps of people seem to be having this problem, and none of the weird workarounds that people have tried seem to work for me at all.
Mmm, starting to get a bit burnt by the game now. May be because of lack of new scenery, or the feeling that it's not really open because of all the instancing.
The general population on Jekk'Jekk Tarr seems to be painfully slow at levelling up, I rarely see anyone looking for groups for instances beyond Mandalorian Raiders or Cademimu. Very rarely you might see a Boarding Party or Foundry. I never get groups for flashpoints, which is a bit annoying cos it feels like I'm missing out on big chunks of the game.
just have to wait for a fix, atleast ur not paying per month to play it... oh wait...
The best part is that I can log into other servers just fine (signifying that it's not a PC hardware problem on my end), and boba can log into my account just fine (signifying that it isn't an account/bugged character problem). It's just a random fucked up stupid fucking bug that nobody knows how to fix.
By scenery, I mean more of an open choice in where to go. Currently it's 1 planet per tier of levels, and if your like me, whose made 3 different republic characters, it gets dull quickly. I like the choice in this game, I have never seen so much before. But it's only arbitrary to dialogue in quests, and a few different outcomes from choice. It starts to become apparent that it may be more linear then I though when you've done Coruscant 3 times. I'm not saying I hate the game now and will never play it, just that there are some gripes large enough that it may not warrant me playing for a long period of time. Especially when you may want to level another character because you may be bored of your level 50, the only real "change" is either doing a character opposite to your current faction, or trying a opposite of what your current main character is, in going full "good" or full "evil" respectively.
Pharcyde - I think that bug is being addressed in tonights patch.
I'm getting moderate amount of success with flashpoints, usually waiting about 15mins for a tank. After doing a check in Fleet it looks like I'm (31) at the lower end of the level curve and most people are mid to high 30s. Damn you family for interrupting my holiday of SWToR!
Yeah, it is linear in that way, thats the biggest drawback to making it so story driven imo. But you should stop making new characters and doing Coruscant over and over and level up higher :P The higher level planets are pretty awesome, I think Voss is my favourite planet so far, and the Voss themselves look fucking awesome, I hope they become a playable race at some point.
Hoth is pretty cool too (pun intended) and Belsavis is basically Azkaban and has some cool stories and stuff. I wasn't a huge fan of Taris, but it has some interesting scenery. Doing Corellia atm and its pretty cool cos its like a battlefield in the middle of a city which is something new and fun, and you get to fight wookies.
I don't think there is many MMOs that can circumvent the nature of linear levelling experience. WoW has the benefit of years of content development to supply that variety but Rift & Aion were very much the same thing. At least SWToR has the main story line difference and each main class starting in different areas. I think it was Aion that just had the same starting zone for a faction which killed it's replay-ability for me.
Would comment on AoC but once I got to level 20 I tossed that piece of shit in the bin.

belsavis looks fucking amazing imo. hoth's probably the worst planet out of the lot so far.
i would love an future expansion that goes to kashyyk.
I don't get the hate for Hoth, I quite liked it. It just had a serene, epic feeling to it, with big sweeping ice plains and glaciers and stuff. And the whole story of the ship graveyard and the massive ships crashed there was awesome. My only disappointment was I couldn't ride the Tauntauns :(
Balmorra is probably the one I've liked the least, and yeah, I wasn't a huge fan of Tatooine either, but it has sand people, and I love the sounds they make so Tatooine gets a pass for that reason. Force choking sand people just never, ever gets old, the sounds they make give me endless amusement.
Groundhog Balmorra is a hot contender for worst planet ever but since some knob fuck (stinky you can go hit them) put an Imperial quest objective next to a Republic outpost and I had a Jedi spawn camping me for about 20 minutes, Tatoonie wins.
Taris was by far my favourite zone yet, massive epic ruined city...if you spend some time looking up there every now and then you can really see the magnitude of the city now swamp.
I agree with ravn0s on hoth though, was kinda boring for me too... tedious quests and mostly dull landscapes(short of ship graveyard which was cool).
My only problem with this game so far at level 41 would have to be the copious amount of quests that are exactly the same on every planet... ' oh no, imperial military fucked up objective x so you're going to have to do/use y to fix it! '
Most of the planets have a cool climax or twist to the story, but 90% of the quests you do are picking up the pieces for the imperial military, which gets a bit tiresome.
ravn0s clearly is not playing the same SWToR I am. How can any planet be worse than Tatooine?
hoth is like tatooine, but all white and blue.
My only disappointment was I couldn't ride the Tauntauns
was hoping we could do that but nope.
one thing i really enjoy is getting all the datacrons. i've got every single one so far except for republic starter planets and hoth (will get the rest when i got back for the bonus series). the last i got on alderaan was tricky because you have to go through a heroic 4 area near the republic base to get to it. plus you need to buy an item from a vendor beforehand to blow up a wall.
I kinda liked Hoth. I thought it was really well done. Plus, it had Ortolans! Those little guys have to be some of the funniest and cutest critters around.
The music on hoth was really mellow too, I just found it really enjoyable and relaxing to cruise around the glaciers on my speeder on hoth :P I dunno, maybe I'm just weird.
The environment on Taris was definitely epic, but it gave me the shits trying to navigate it. Environmentally Voss isn't really anything special (except for the nightmare twisted bits), but it just has such a cool story, and cool characters and its got this real mysterious, awesome vibe to it. I really loved it, I hope theres a bonus series there so I get to go back and continue with more of the story.
I don't recommend putting a security key on your account yet.
There is no automated way to remove it (say if you want to sell your phone or reset it) and at least one guy has been apparently told by Bioware cs that they can't remove it ...
I agree with Eorl, that was kinda what I was trying to say previously. I get that its Story driven but it would be nice to make a choice or 2 in what direction it goes and not just Light or Dark.

Yeah, I got the physical security key. And its awesome, cos the security key vendor ingame sells fleet passes that let you hearth back to the fleet whenever you want :P Well, they have a 1 hour cooldown, but still awesome.
nah it's not reusable. i've got 2 on me though just in case the 18hrs cooldown fleet pass isn't up.
my biochem is almost 200. i've crafted a few purp items now. i got access to implants at 150 but they weren't really worth crafting. hopefully get access to some better ones at the 200 mark.
I've been RE'ing lvl 30 epic qual earpieces as Cybertech, seen nothing else. Did make a lot with Augment slots though. Dont get anyhing for REing those (that I have seen).
I bet all those Jedi that got cut down by the troopers in episode 3 were thinking the same thing.
Is there anyone here that is really knowledgeable about the Star Wars timeline? Like, I'm assuming at some point between the Old Republic and the movies, the Sith empire is beaten down and runs away again, but do they come back again at all before the movies? Would be cool if the MMO covers the story all the way up to when the Sith empire is beaten, but then I guess they'd be cheating themselves out of future Old Republic games if they finished the story.
This is the issue that SWG had. Should you make a game where blasters and vibroblades are equal to Light Sabres? It would make more sense to separate Sith and Jedi from normal classes from the game. The game would have been fine if it only had non jedi and sith classes. Then it would not be as star-wars-ey and might not attract as many people cause we all want glow sticks. I would like to see the game split in twain so one part would be Jedi Vs Sith and the other Republic Vs Sith Empire. Will never happen but I think its a good idea. Maybe the next gen of MMOs we will see a sandbox star wars mmo with more thought put into it.

There's quite a few Sith Empires ... I'm absolutely lost as to how they fit into the main timeline.
The reasoning behind having so many Jedi's is because it's a time of war, so they are breeding like crazy. In SWG it wasn't so, and that's why Jedi's were the hardest class to find, with only a few being Jedi. And then the death of SWG where they let anyone be Jedi and it lost all meaning and epicness. That's why I think it's okay here, because the story fits it, and every class can still have it's epicness.
I haven't logged in for a few days, not because I'm bored, just been majorly busy with Steam Sales so playing other games. But I think I'm hating my Sage at the moment because she is on Coruscant. Hate this place...
Jetpack that you can't use to stop yourself falling to your death ftw!
I was commenting on that the other day, watched a bounty hunter fall to his death.. they should but some sort of fall damage reduction like they did for rogues in WoW
Is there anyone here that is really knowledgeable about the Star Wars timeline?
It's a boring uninspired repetitive mess imo, but I had a browse through it years around around the time of KotOR and the Jedi Knight games.
(Also I sort of just dropped into this page randomly to look for opinions on the game, will probably forget to return so direct all questions to the link. :P)
I like to beat my head against a wall to achieve nothing, its how I managed to play with Casa all those years in MMOs :P
A bite without bait! I now have truely mastered what Obes taught me many years ago. Now if only I can find a bridge to get stuck on and quit a guild because the kids are being nasty to me...
What really pulled it off was star wars battlefront.. you had your troopers, normal soldiers etc, but when you got x amount of kills, you spawned as a jedi hero!! the difference in power was massivley obvious.. you could force jump and just slice and dice 100's of dudes like a REAL JEDI!!!!
Not beaten by a trooper with a portable deflector shield.
All power to front deflector shields. All power to front deflector shields. I just beat yoda.
The outsourced customer rep? Sure will. Game is wicked, don't get me wrong, few little bugs that need to be sorted in the actual game itself. But holy crap Bioware and EA need to get their shit together and stop screwing things up in the Customer Reputation department.
from what i read people had lowbies camped out at lockboxes in ilum and were continuously looting for items to sell/farm gold. pretty bad exploit imo. however i dont think they should have been banned. they should have just removed all items/credits obtained that way and hopefully a level limit patched in soon.
So... 8 hour maint during our prime time (though it's not released here yet so I can't really bitch about that) and not even getting the 1.0.2 patch? just 1 loading bug is all that's happening?

OK this is a bit spoilerific, found out the periods in question today.
Spoiler: TOR is set in the Great Galactic War. It lasts for about 30 years and the Sith arguably win, claiming heaps of territory and forcing the Republic into wide retreat. The Republic is a shitfight after and blame the thousands of (mostly dead) Jedi for being shitcunts and losing. For some reason the Emperor got bored and gave up conquering though.
There's then a Cold War period.
Then some random fights.
Then the new Sith Wars (about 1500 years after the Great Galactic War, the Jedi win, final collapse of the Sith Empire).
Then the Mandalorian Civil Wars.
Then some more random wars.
Then the Clone Wars
Its a 3,600 year long period. Way too long for the MMO to run and make sense!
Its a 3,600 year long period. Way too long for the MMO to run and make sense!
In 3600 years we went from thinking the earth was flat and making super simple metal alloys to landing on the moon (unless you're faceman) and splitting the atom.
In the Star Wars universe it would appear they achieved jack shit.
swtor site is still up. don't they always take it down when doing maintenance?
anyway here's a vid that shows you how to get your pvp gear. i've already got a champion gear bag through using commendations. it wont let me buy another until i open that one though :(
edit: oh wtf servers are back up? thought they were going to be down for 8hrs.
also been watching this guy's pvp vids since he's an assassin. he's pretty good and i've learnt quite a bit from them.
That vid of the marauder he's using a lot of consumables. Quite a few people weren't even close to 50, you can see that when he's targetting them.
Regardless if a level 20 is scaled up to a level 50. That player still lacks the gear or the skill tree/some abilities that go with being level 50.
Someone over on the Imperial Agent forums is complaining that the female romance option is incredibly bad because he is part ant or something. Like that chick on Alderaan that melded with the hive.
Girl gamer chiming in - there is literally nothing appealing about this guy. He is an ant. He only ever talks about ants, the hive or finding other hives, and if I leave his armor piercing combat stance on then he stands in the storeroom of my ship pumping out a nasty green pheromone cloud.
It's a great read. Stuff about him wanting to rub forearms with your character hahahaha. I almost want to reroll my sniper as a girl just to see this.
I have successfully gathered 4 of my friends into playing this game now. And currently, we are all LANing it up, yelling shit about each others storyline. And also, BF3 is an amazing LAN game, so much yelling.
This is why all the people screaming to have their Very Urgent Problem with the game fixed NOW are fuckwits.
Some of the stuff they are fixing is important. The mail system losing items and credits is important, particularly since they have said they won't restore credits lost to the mail system and will only restore 3 items per 3 months even if a bug loses them... I swear their customer service department are North Korean.
Last nights patch fixed a problem were if as a Bounty Hunter you selected the dark side options for the ending of chapter 3 ... you got stuck unable to complete the quest line.
How that got through Beta testing is pretty messed up. It's a class story-line, ie. the big thing that differentiates them to every other mmo.
Either the beta testers were useless, or Bioware just ignored bug reports.
I thought it was obvious that I wasn't referring to game breaking shit.
What ? Your post is very clear
One (tested and solid) patch per month please Bioware.
You want 1 patch that's tested per month. Nothing about unless there is really broken shit. You seem to be whinging about the past 2 patches which fixed game breaking shit.
I rolled a smuggler because IA is really shitting me. If only to test out the storyline but so far I think they are better than IA. For starters their snipe mirror ability doesn't pop you out of cover when it's charging so you are only vulnerable for about 2 seconds total instead of 4 or 5.
Sigh. Whatever Obes, I knew I'd regret talking to you and that responding to your bait was a tarp.
Just for the fucking record. Game breaking shit gets a pass. Most of what they are working on (and what players are crying about on the official forums as THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO WORK ON) is NOT game breaking and can wait for a monthly patch. Take a look at the patch notes if you need clarification.
Are we clear enough for you now Obes, or are you going to continue posting stupid, argumentative responses in typical Obes fashion?
I'm so glad I took a chance and replied to you. No really, you're a real asset to this forum.

well last night's downtime was to fix something they broke in the patch the night before. need's more testing done imo

That's really all I was after, less rush more testing, more focus on game breaking issues. Non-critical shit can wait for a monthly update. Obviously the testing was insufficient as we needed several followup patches for 1.02 for what appear to be regression bugs.
Its a hard balance though, as a strong argument can be made that subs can be lost because feature X isn't in the game.
yeah i'm sure there would have been threads made on the swtor forum threatening to cancel their accounts because emotes weren't working on speeders.
downtime tonight is scheduled to only last 2 hrs. hopefully they don't extend it.
also turns out people being banned for "playing" the GTN was a load of shit once again.
You have not been banned. In fact, your account has no notes on it at all from the Terms of Service team - and nor does your 'alt' account under the same name and address.
If you have a third alt with a different username, feel free to PM me directly with it and I'll investigate that too. The email image you linked to may not have been created by you, but it is a fake.
If you have any issues with accessing the game, please contact Customer Service.
For the record, 'playing' the Galactic Trade Network is part of everyday, normal gameplay and is expected to happen in Star Wars: The Old Republic. No-one has been banned for their actions on the GTN.
As a general note, I would advise caution before assuming someone who is posting that they are 'banned' is actually banned.
Yes you can. I've done it on my marauder but from what i've seen the stats don't get better, more are added onto the item. So a green with 25 aim and 20 endurance would turn into a blue with the same stats only with perhaps a +15 crit +10 power added to it as well.
well i bought a biochem 190 resolve implant schematic which had pretty decent stats. it had 30 something endurance, willpower and some crit i think. it will be interesting to see what the purp stats are like
Yeah, you can upgrade to purple implants, it either adds more stats or improves the existing stats depending on the prefix you get. Theres 3 types of tier 1 upgrade, then for each tier 1 upgrade theres 5 types of tier 2 upgrade, so theres 15 different purple implants you can learn from each implant by reverse engineering.

The chat bug ? nah that existed long before last night's patch. I used to get it after a flashpoint and returning to the fleet. Used to have to log out and back in to fix it.
Or the /getdown ? yeah .. well it didn't work at all, then they fixed it and it was working as an AOE interrupt (pretty broken). This is the problem with nightly "fixes" but then again in that same patch they fixed up the bug that pharcyde was having, and fixed bounty hunter story quest. So ... can't have it both ways.
I can't work out how to post on the forums as there is no reply button anywhere. I'll either be operative heals (or dps if we have enough) or marauder. There doesn't seem to be any on the list so far so I might go with that instead since I do enjoy my marauder a lot.
EDIT - Yeah sign me up for marauder. I really enjoy that class.
Holy jesus, Coruscant is terrible. I just can not get my Sage out of there, everytime I log on, I just cry myself to sleep. If only they had of developed it to be a bit more "open" with choice. They could of still had a great storyline, but just more of a choice of where to level, ala WoW with the many level 1-60 zones etc.
Nah, they have a straight upgrade path from green -> blue -> epic. Make some green ones, RE them till you get the blue schematic, then make those and RE them till you get the purple one, and then thats as far as it goes for medpacks, stimpacks and adrenals.
The blue version of them usually has some kind of extra perk (like lasting for 2 hours and persisting through death for stims) and then the purple versions are reuseable and never run out.

yeah that's what i've been doing. usually i make a stack of 5 then RE them. if no schematic i make another stack of 5 and RE. i usually get the schematic then. if not i make stacks of 3 until i get a schematic.
I am on Tatooine now, I like it. Jawas and Sand People are always welcome. I want my next companion, I would try the droid on my ship but there is hardly any droid stuff on the GTC, He would die in 5 seconds in a fight.
No droid stuff on the AH? Well, I can fix that... But the Ship Upgrade grade 2's sell for big profit. I haven't much time to sit down and level this week, been at level 22 for a while now. But I can still fire up SWTOR for 5 mins here and there to craft a few things and flog em on the AH, and buy cheap ingredients when people sell then for spastically low prices.
Unless they've fixed it, that droid is INCREDIBLY fucking annoying to use as a companion. Hes a healer, but every single time he heals you he talks, and he says the same thing every single time, that "I was just looking for something to do to please you!" line.
Yes he is. I was using for a bit, but his constant, "I was just looking for something to do to please you!" line was about to drive me insane so I dumped his arse.
you should hear talos (assassin healer). he almost always ends a fight with "i cant believe we won that". it's annoying but i use him because i get through mobs faster with him.
Im only level 8 and have the shits because my quest line has ended up as some level 10 quest that I can't do >:(
you shouldn't be experiencing anything like that at such a low level. are you doing all sidequests?
Found a quick way to level up early in the game. When you are in a place that lets you leave the planet and go to the republic/imperial fleet and choose companion skills (slicing, armourtech etc) and pvp quests go there asap and learn about the companion skills. You get 450 (or so) for each one that gets put in to your codex so can level up a bit without doing much.
Wonder if Bioware will give lowbies any new content. As my previous post said, the encouragement to make an alt is strong (with class quests being so different and interesting), but you can get bored easily because of the same planets.
Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up nuking my trooper and became a Jedi Knight instead which I am enjoying much more :) Will check back for my advice tho :D

yeah good idea ... the trooper is way underpowered ... right guys?
Did Directive 7 last night, I've been 50 for a while but hadn't done that flashpoint yet. Its fucking awwwwwesome. Last boss is fantastic. Haven't done Battle of Ilum and False Emperor yet but they're next.
The open world pvp part of Ilum is a bit disappointing though, I mean it has potential and its a cool concept, and I like the map itself, lots of cool little tunnels and different ways of getting places, but its just so empty at the moment and nobody really ever bothers actually fighting, they just win trade to complete their dailies/weeklies.

I doubt this is / will be the case on Swiftsure. World PVP after 40 or so is crazy let alone Ilum, looking forward to it :)
Form gank squads and nail those Jedi and troopers on Ilum, that should be fun.
Got to about 35 with my merc BH and decided to make a light side sith jugg warrior. absolutely loving it but it's completely distracting me from my BH.
surprised the amount of rage I get for choosing the light side options in flashpoints. storyline is pretty cool light side as well. not so much compassionate "jedi" responses but more logical. kind of a thinking man sith. don't have to worry about pissing off vette either.
all i need to do is gain 2 more levels so i can craft the rakata stims, medpacs and adrenals.
You need a drop from hard mode flashpoints to craft the rakata stuff. Its like the orbs in WoW, I can't remember off the top of my head what the item is called but one drops off the last boss of hard mode flashpoints then you roll on it. I got one last night and crafted a rakata fortitude stim and its pretty damn epic. Just sad theres no rakata implants you can craft :(

The problem at the moment I think is there just isn't enough people at max level doing it. Every time I've been on Ilum theres usually less than 10 people on the entire planet, and half the planet is pve quests, so theres usually only like 2 or 3 people in the entire pvp zone (if you're lucky). Then theres maybe the same number on the republic side (or theres none, and you just stand around holding your cock because theres nothing to capture because its all imperial owned).
The pvp part of ilum is pretty huge and when theres only maybe 2 or 3 republic running around in there at the best of times, you have almost no chance of even finding them to kill them, and in the end its just not worth the effort because if you kill them it just means you can't get your dailies/weeklies done because they wont cap anything for you to cap it back.
I haven't logged on in a couple of days. I don't know, just doesn't have the lure anymore, or maybe I'm just to busy.
You need to stop making alts and pick a character to level up so you can actually see new content, instead of continually doing the same few planets you've already done.

bah that sucks. i hope you don't need to RE them to make them reusable.
Only have my sith juggernaut, my jedia sage and my scoundrel. Highest is my scoundrel which is level 22. I do enjoy the game, no doubt about that. Maybe I'm just to busy with other games haha.

This is why the game will need instant 50s or something. The replay value is bad.

Maybe not that far, but definitely more planets then just the initial few. But it seems that wasn't Bioware's concern, it was more the story and having different class stories, but same areas.
Have not played the game in a couple of days, My GTX570 committing suicide is one reason and today Im setting up a laptop for the old folk. I am running on my old GTX260 at the moment.
1.5mill credits well spent khel? i just went for the dark side level 5 speeder for 99k. i've seen a few assholes using the speeders to block people from accessing the pvp quest machine in the fleet.
got to 50 yesterday and got my first piece of champion pvp gear (an implant) from the 4th bag i opened.
also i was wondering, do dailies and weeklies reset exactly a day/week after you first accept them or has bioware set them to reset at specific times?
Yeah, bought it like Tuesday and already have 500k credits again, money is such a non-issue at 50 with all the dailies and shit to do (along with selling level 50 implants).
Dailies reset at 10pm each night, and weeklies reset at 10pm on Tuesday night.
Someone PM'd me today asking for help on how to get the game and get into Tarp. Thought it might be useful to share.
This is the latest AFAIK:
The game is not available directly from Origin. I have no idea why they haven't given up on this region lock yet given that they've acknowledged that people are playing from Oceania and aren't moving to stop it happening.
Myself and the first few people in the guild used http://www.cjs-cdkeys.com/ I can't vouch for them in the last couple weeks but they were solid at game launch and I cant see why it would have changed.
They send you a key, you then create a swtor.com account and add the key / subscribe. If you log into swtor.com with your origin account rather than create a new one, it will then show up in your Origin games which is handy. I think you can also stick the key directly into Origin (never done this).
Once you have it installed, register at http://www.itsatarp.net.au then create a character on Swiftsure and look for Hogfather, Zapo, or Ticcles for an invite :)
I was in que for Swifty when I got an error (Error 1002) and now I can not get into que. I can log into other servers but Swiftsure keeps giving me errors. If they offered free transfers off I would take them in a heart beat.
At the moment I don't play this game, never signed up to anything about it, but I've already received several emails telling me that my account is under investigation for wanting to sell the account and that I need to log into a site to fix the matter. WTF?!?!?!

Someones trying to get your info so they can steal your crap. But as you never joined the game just ignore it.
Patch has been delayed, so make sure you complete your Ilum weekly when it rolls over tonight for another easy 3 pvp bags, before the changes go through.
i've got 2 champ implants, 4 relics and 1 head piece. one of the implants is the wrong one though. it was the first thing i got and i didn't realise there are multiple types of gear you could buy, so i just took the first one i saw available. the one i got is for a sorcerer :/
You get the tokens from completing the daily and weekly pvp quests, some involve winning warzones, but two of them you do on ilum and just involve capturing points. So when dailies/weeklies would roll over, usually both sides just head to ilum and trade points with each other to complete the requirements and get free pvp gear. Now they're changing the requirements for that quest though, so you actually have to actually do pvp and kill people to complete them.
Its still pretty broken though, the pvp gear is so good (even for pve) and is so easy to get, whereas the equivalent pve gear is heavily gated and takes much more work to get. So everyone is just pve'ing in pvp gear now.

But you gave it 9.5 khel ?
The Ilum changes will simply add in the requirement for essentially kill trading (bit like the frontier dueling circle jerks in DAOC). Both sides want to gear up asap, both sides don't actually give a rats about Ilum as it doesn't provide any bonuses or change the universe at all. (The world is super super static, your efforts have no impact at all on anything, even less than EQ, it is the most static MMO ever produced).
PVP gear is OP, in part because it has a group finder. And because with a little effort I have averaged 1 piece a day since hitting 50 between random bag drops and commendations with little to no effort. However raiding got me some healing shit on my dps merc oO which I then couldn't trade to healers ... stupid system.
Crafted gear is pretty yawn worthy.
GTN on my server is dead.
Space combat is a joke (SWG had multiplayer ships and PVP space combat that affected what was happening on the planet surface, oh and your ship didn't have rails!, a separate piloting level ie. you could be a level 1 jedi, but a pro pilot).
BTW pro tip for those that space bar through the quests in prefences you can turn on your light side dark side gain to be displayed in text.
Currently you want to simply max out 1 way or the other. (Apparently 1.2 is adding neutral rewards).
Theres pve dailies on ilum and Belsavis that you can do for money, commendations (which you can buy gear and epic mods with) and other rewards. Theres hard modes of Black Talon, Boarding Party, Foundry, Directive 7, Battle of Ilum and False Emperor to do as well for gear. Then theres the two operations which have three difficulty levels each. And theres pvp as well if you're so inclined. So far I haven't found myself lacking for things to do, and I've made a Bounty Hunter alt too if I do get bored with my main.

Unless of course your game bugs out and stops showing them like mine does all the time. Only way I know to fix it is to disable the option, apply and close down the menu, reopen and turn on again. I seem to be the only one in the guild who has bugs like this though
I'm leveling my operative (Since I do love the IA class) and was about 4000 light and then did a 180 and am going dark as hard as I can for a change (zeny is full light after all) and it's much more suited to an agent if you ask me. Anyway so yeah i'm almost neutral again now at 33 1/2.

Oh also with the IA storyline incase anyone is wondering, there seems to be multiple paths you can take which alters the story. For example on Zeny I chose to kill the chapter 1 end boss where as on Diiem I have chosen to work for him and the story has changed to include him and details have been switched. I've yet to see if this alters the objectives but we'll see!

My experience having 2 bounty hunters (1 lightside 1 darkside) is not really.
You still have to go either kill something or collect/fix/slice/break/look at something in the same location.
Something does need to be done about illum and the effects it has for the side that control it.
Would be nice to see an xp bonus and credit bonus for who ever controls it.
I fear though atm given that most severs are heavily sith sided that it would imbalance the game a little.
I remember when i played daoc they gave a bonus to the faction that controlled areas in pvp. You get xp gains (which was needed cause it was a big grind to level) gold gains ect. You also had access to areas that had great drops.
Groganus, how was DAOC a grind to level?
In any realm i could level you a 50 in about 7hrs!
Easiest game to level out of all the MMO's i have played - the master levels were a pain especially initially but I like it that DAOC focus was on PVP not pve
I sure did, still stand by that too cos even with the minor gripes and kinks that need to be ironed out, its the only game I've played since it came out and its pretty much banished the urge to play any other MMOs from my mind. A month on and its still 100% fulfilling my MMO craving (and then some), and I hit it pretty hard in those first few weeks over christmas holidays too. Thats more than I can say for pretty much any other MMO that has come out since WoW.
Gotta agree with you khel, most mmo's i generally start feeling burnout after the first 30days.. if they hold my interest that long.
My biggest issue atm is the combat delay problems, and really its only because my main and first character (sentinel) relies so heavily on instant attacks being instant... Rolled a commando alt though, im loving leveling it up. This time im selecting dark options so it doesn't make repeating quests that much of a drag.
