It's not out for a couple of months yet though, unless there are some serious preorder goodies I don't see the point in preordering digital purchases.

Yeah that's what I did for Deus Ex 3 (after somebody linked the deal here), though last time I checked they didn't have Skyrim listed (or I noobed it up). Ausgameshop actually has collector's editions at that price, though I'm trying to confirm that boxed copies definitely link into steam (developers have confirmed that it's "steamworks" which I presume means all copies, not just digital). Don't know where I'll be living yet as I'm a bit of a nomad this year, so won't be ordering any physical products until closer to the date either way.

I've preordered a copy for my mate from OzGameShop with the cloth and received this email yesterday:
We have been informed by the publisher that the Premium version of Elder Scrolls V Skyrim with the cloth map will be in short supply. We are unable to fulfil all of our orders for this version but we have managed to secure additional stock of the version which contains a paper version of the map rather than the cloth map.
We sincerely apologise for this issue and we hope you understand that it is out of our control.
We therefore wish to offer you the following options:
- A full refund - simply reply back to this email and request a refund
- A $5 voucher and receive the game with a paper map
The way I get around the regional pricing issue is with a couple of steps.
- Set up an entropay account. This is so you don't use your aussie credit card in case something goes wrong. They charge something like 5% extra but its worth it imo. Set it all up and upload the funds, take note of the cc number etc etc
- Find a vpn. There are a few free ones I've used in the past such as Best Free Vpn. (Although I've had an issue with it last time I used this vpn - plenty of alternatives though
- Make sure steam isn't running and log in to said VPN - make sure its working by checking your ip address. Take note of the city it says you are in. Important: do not log into entropay while through a vpn - killed my account one time and I had to get it unlocked
- First time only:Go to steam and create yourself a new steam account. Set your address to be in the city you're current IP is set to (along with phone etc).
- Now with this steam account you can simply buy the games you want and gift them to your proper steam account.
- Profit.

That sounds like a massive hassle, I'd rather just get it cheaper through a cd-key site.
Also, Saints Row is now on GMG for those interested like me. $40 US preorder price. Once they get more publishers they are going to be the place to be IMO.

The last Skyrim purchase I did (when the Aussie dollar was lower) turned out to be $65.
For anyone curious here are the current costs on steam (converted to AUD):
AUS $86.64
USA $57.76
UK $72.69
So you can pretty much add 5% on top of that cost when you upload to Entropay and you should be sweet.
If anyone cant be fucked going through the effort of doing all this I am happy to gift a couple of people one through steam if you transfer me the cash. If anyone is interested lemme know. I'll probably do 3-5 at max before I get bored and stop lol

EB have now sold out of their exclusive collector's edition for PC. Just bought mine from GAME for $88 ... I wanted the cloth map thingy for reasons unknown as well.
Also, the one from GAME comes with two novels as well. So, worth the price methinks. Novels are probably shithouse though, based on Elder Scrolls Lore.

Update on Gamer Keys for those interested.
I needed to confirm that I was a real human asking for a key via email (I guess they are being snapped up by robots?) but so far so good, system seems legit. I am still worried that its a RU key that I will need a VPN to activate but we'll see :)
Key is due for delivery on or about the 11th.

Kind of, they buy actual copies of the game and scan the CD-key and email it to you. GMG is more like Steam, works direct with the publisher to sell digital copies.

Skyrim just became a fucking epic game because of what I just read here.
The game’s Radiant quest system randomly generates new tasks based on your progress in the game. An innkeeper might ask you to hunt for bandits in a place you haven’t found yet, or an aspiring alchemist could request that you collect 10 undiscovered flowers for his work. Howard claims that the options are endless.
In addition to these minor tasks, Howard says you’ll be able to do extra work for each of the game’s factions, like the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. Once you complete the scripted quest lines for each group, you can go to their respective hubs and pick up randomly generated missions to steal gems or assassinate shopkeepers across Skyrim’s massive world.
That pissed me off so fucking much in oblivion, that once you finished their storyline quests for the factions they became useless and they became nothing more than places to pick up gold from every now and then. I don't care if they are simple "steal this" or "kill this person", the fact they are randomly generated is epic. |

It was a russian key, but you only need to activate it over VPN now, Steam has given the russian keys the option to download English files.

I got an email from intkeys saying they'll email sometime at launch, so im guessing midnightish. I thought it was the 11th today for some fcked reason so expected it and sent an email when I didnt get it, I dunno if it's russian or whatever but it's no biggie.
BF3 came as the russian extended version but downloading a few english files and throwing them in my language folder took no time.

Edit: Tried a bunch of different Australian regions and they were all shit, none went higher than 70 - 80k/s and most ended up dropping out and stopping after a bit. Changed my region to Los Angeles and now getting solid 400k/s. Yay for our country's awesome internet.

Just changed my region from Brisbane to Los Angeles, and got a jump from 60 to 300 kilobytes. Shweet suggestion Khel. Usually everything is speedy, this being so new is probably working against it.

Ok this game is pretty fucking sweet. Was running like utter shit at under 20 fps but I changed shadows from High down to Medium and it's running silky smooth. There is some sound crackling and at times can cause NPCs to loose their voice. Loving the combat system with being able to have 1 spell and a sword up at the same time. Makes things so much fun. Messing around with Fury and causing people to go batshit and kill themselves = sneaky sneaky mage time.

Ok so intkeys emailed me and they have the Russian version which is locked to that region. Getting a full refund apparently. Looks like I'm gonna have to go the gmg option I guess

Runs better than I thought. I've got it on Ultra 1920x1080 with AA changed to 4xAA and it's running probably about 30-40fps.
i7 3.4GHz quad, 12GB DDR3, SSD, AMD Radeon 6970M (not equivalent to the desktop 6970)

I can't find anywhere to see my character except in game in third person view. When you're choosing armour and weapons it doesn't show you your character which is a bit of a step backward. I don't think I like the interface. It's too sparse.

The game will not run outside of the CIS (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan). We do provide use of VPN but we understand if this is not ideal. You currently have 2 options.
1. Get a full refund.
2. Still get the game.

I played it for about 30 minutes this morning, and the races look so much better, but I'm finding the main disappointment is the UI / menus. In fact, for all the people that didn't like the Oblivion menus, they're a LOT better than Skyrim. You can't see your character in the equip menus, all you see is the item. You really have no idea what your char looks like up close or if you're missing anything from being equipped. Maybe I'm missing something.
The menus also are a bit of a PITA for mice. They're designed for keyboard/controllers :(

Well I'm waiting, the hype of getting the key was crushed, so now I'm waiting to get the best deal with GMG, just waiting for a voucher code to bring it down, that combined with a trade-in copy of deus ex goty which I already had on steam which is 10% plus the 10% discount will add upto a 30-40% discount.

On the upside I've been fortunate enough to play through the (real) Diablo3 beta a few times now Thunder, and its fucking awesome.
No UI issues from the boys at Blizzard.

The thing is, I didn't mind the Oblivion UI at all. The elements were a little "big" (console/tv) but it felt solid and you got a lot of feedback. It also worked a lot better with mice, unlike this one.

If anyone happens to find a fix for crackling sound please let me know. It's really annoying and the official forums have died, I guess from severe overload and the steam forums have been down over 3 days now.

I'm getting it at 600-700kb, I probably won't be able to play it until tomorrow night though.
The file size is pretty surprising considering the scale of the game.
Those wanting to wait for a coupon for GMG, it looks to still have the 10% pre-order discount up which will surely be gone in a few hours.

Are you using a USB headset? I had crackling sound in Dead Island with my USB headset. The only fix I ever found for it was to un-install the logitech drivers for it and use generic windows drivers. Means I lost the surround sound capability of the headset and it just became plain old stereo, but I didn't get crackling.

I'm surprised that they apparently didn't catch that remapping keys both breaks the UI functionality, and shows incorrect key bindings on the UI screens. Unless it fell into the "ah fuck, too hard" category due to how they route input events.

First time purchase from GMG and I am impressed - had issues with payment but once UK support came online they sorted it. I was hoping to preload but at 6am I downloaded it all from internode in about 50 mins. Only strange thing was I had to keep clicking on 'I accept if this is an EA game you cannot sell it to me outside of UK' even though I am sure Bethesda is not EA (besides RAGE).

Yeah, I thought that was weird too, about the EA thing. Maybe they're using the same system for selling Bethesda's games as EA games, and they just cut and pasted the code without changing the names or something. Still weird though cos I can't even see EA games on the GMG website, but Skyrim showed up for me fine.

gmg is fine, they give you a key and you can either use their piece of shit client to download or just add it to Steam. They are definitely a step above any of the key selling sites as they have official deals with the publishers and you can access your keys through your account with them at any time.
Even though some games, like EA titles, require you to go to the UK site to purchase, they don't require a VPN or anything to activate.
