Hiya guys,
Anyone here currently playing it? I've just started to and have found myself being an SPG whore.
It seems to be progressing well, I'd like to see a few more features added instead of more tanks. We will see how that goes.
I'm only up to tier 2/3.

I've been playing for well over a year now, since the closed beta just started.
I have an m12, pershing, is3, is4, churchill, m41, and all the lower tier tanks you need to get them :)
Patch 6.7 is about to come out either tonight or tomorrow. Full patch notes list is here.
Also is an outline and rough timeline of some of the stuff they're doing:

tier 2/3 is fun, but tier 4/5 sucks. tier 6 and up is good.

I have unlocked T-44, ran out of motivation to grind for the T-54, even though the T-54 is an animal of a tank.
Some of the most fun I've had has been in a light tank fighting low tier battles, high tier tanks are overrated.

I've just joined a clan so interested to see what the clan wars is about. I've mainly unlocked the german tree so my garrage as of now has a panther2, e75, ferdinand, gw panther, M4, T1, M10 and KV. Find myself lately having enough XP for a few tanks but not enough credits so its a bit of a grind through. Played quite a bit of this game gotta love being a tank.

Loving the sound of the big gun on this T34 :)
On a slight side note. I wish they would come up with some real world spotting / vision for WOT.
Ie, why note just things like fog and smoke instead of a buggy system that allows large tanks to disapear 50m from you on a clear bright day.

Hermi gets paid 250 gold per day to play because his clan, PANZAC, is the top Aussie/NZ clan in the game and top 10 on the US server. That means top 100 Aussies and Kiwis in 5 million registered accounts. Only Blizzard employees get paid to play WoW and it is quite an achievement for an Aussie to be paid to play a free to play game like WoT.

Yup ET, would be great if the maps were large enough so you could engage at 2km to actualy show how good the german tanks were.
I also dont get why people whine about wallet warriors. Its a game so do as you please, gold won't give you an advantage that I can see other than the consumable stuff like ammo and kits.
Does anyone know how the free experience works? It just somehow randomly just accumulates overtime which is nice to make some unlocks easier, just can't tell how do you earn it at all.

Does getting paid 30k gold per month mean you don't spend money to buy gold?

You get 5% of XP earned during battle added as Free XP. On elite tanks (maxed out) the xp earned, all xp except the 5% which is already added as free, can be converted to free xp using gold (25xp = 1 gold).

Just started playing lastnight and I am trying to work a few things out.
Such as,
1) Should I keep working with the same tank crew and just move them from tank to tank as I get each new one?
2) Are there only two skills per member of the tank crew ie primary and secondary? If there is only two skills a member can have with there anyway of untraining a secondary and training something else? I actually trained Camo as a secondary on all 3 members of my current tank crew, is this a mistake and can I do something to fix it?
3) Should I push as hard as possible going to stronger tanks as quick as I can or should I focus on gaining experience with my crew before progressing to far?
All noob questions I am sure any advice would be appreciated

Taipan, be careful of moving to the next tank too quickly. The next tank up may get thrown straight into higher tier battles against tougher opponents, and you may struggle to earn more money than you'll spend in repairs. Some tanks are notorious for being hard to move into at first.
It can be worth it to wait until you can unlock some good weapons and modules for the next tank before buying it. I recommend reading the wiki for WoT.

Ahhh ok thanks for the heads up on that. It's one of the things I was conerned about. Oh and I actually managed to figure out the training on the secondary skill purely by accident. I was wondering though what you guys do for secondary skills. Do you tend to take a even approach having crew members each train something different or is it highly dependant on the tank you are using at the time?
Thanks again SSM

None of my crew have hit 100% on any of their first skills, yet.
I also went all camo (on my SPG), not sure if it was a dumb idea, enemies do seem to not see me. For lights and mediums you definitely want some repair skill, if nothing else it'll get you moving faster after you get de-treaded.

1) Should I keep working with the same tank crew and just move them from tank to tank as I get each new one?
Yes, from about Tier 4-5 tank level onwards. Keep crews within their type like Medium, Heavy, Tank Destroyer, SPG and Light. Try and max the crew (100%) and retrain at regiment level (20k cost per crewman), this means the crew will be at 90% in the new tank.
2) Are there only two skills per member of the tank crew ie primary and secondary? If there is only two skills a member can have with there anyway of untraining a secondary and training something else? I actually trained Camo as a secondary on all 3 members of my current tank crew, is this a mistake and can I do something to fix it?
No, three secondary skills atm; firefighting, repair and camo. Retraining secondary skills is coming and will cost gold. Note WG is introducing new secondary skills so you don't have to train your crew in secondaries yet. Always train every crewman in the same secondary skill. Meaning you only have 100% repair skill when all a trained in repair to 100%. For Tank Destroyers and SPGs camo > repair, firefighting because you want to hide, Tanks repair > firefighting and camo.
3) Should I push as hard as possible going to stronger tanks as quick as I can or should I focus on gaining experience with my crew before progressing to far?
High crew training does matter after Tier 4/5, so get up to that level before you worry about crew training too much.

Yes, Clan Wars is where the end game is at.
Currently on the NA server though it's limited to 10AM+ AEST play for that but in the future the map will expand across the globe. Then there will be CW battles in Aussie/NZ prime time.

I find my BT-2 to be heaps of fun. In matches with 3+ artillery using its speed to quickly sneak into their base area and rape the SPG's is good stuff. Totally worth it if you can nail 2 or 3 of theme before their defending medium tanks ream you.
I also like when BT-2 with the 45mm gun is placed in a light tank only game. Doesn't take a hit well though, often 1 shotted by a medium.

I know the forums are the place that I should go for info but I gotta be honest mate I dread going into forums of any game like this. There is almost always a a group of people that will trash any suggestion no matter how accurate it is. It makes finding good info when you are a noob (such as me) quite difficult and to be honest it's not a lot of fun sifting through all the opposing view points.
With this game you may find the forums a bit more useful because you may know enough to recognise whats bullshit and whats plausible.
Ahh I made a mistake in my other post I am actually running around in a T46 with a 76mm mounted.

Pretty good targets, yeah :)
The T-43 is good, the T-44 is incrementally better, I'm still slugging towards the T-54 but it enjoys a reputation as the best medium brawler in the game.
*EDIT* And I finally got the 2801, it is impossible to earn money in. I had a round today where I killed a guy, damaged another, and scouted some more, survived the round, and still earned less than the repair cost.

Forget playing if it's wifi.
Good connection is ADSL2+ or equivalent setup for gaming.
One thing I have noticed is, for Aussies, you should let someone else go ahead of you, latency can affect your play but not if it is a person living in NA.

The problem is not with the matchmaker itself, it's with the low population count on the US server.
There are simply not enough people playing mid tier tanks to fill out complete matches with them, so they get thrown into the higher battles. The RU, EU, and China servers simply don't have this problem.
Most mid tier tanks can do well against higher tanks if used right, but some are just a painful grind (m3 lee and t1 heavy probably being the worst.

I've killed a fair few Pershings, the trick is to get in close with the 59. That Pershing gun will drill you if it catches you on a long, straight approach. Once you're on top of them they're pretty much boned unless they have nearby teammates to assist.

Speaking of rage.
I was in my little luchs about 3rd from the bottom of the tank list, I think a KV or two was in the match. Anyway I decide to scout up the left side of the map (dunno which, big mountain range in the middle with a goat track and a large lake to the right of it). I spotted about 5 tanks and my back-up pounded them a bit. Towards the end of the map my little Luchs took out 3 tanks and 1 SPG. The enemy started to cap our base and my remaining buddy started to cap theirs. We where behind by 30 points and ticking up quicker then they. However they evened it with another tank capping. We had a leopard at home base who proceeded to defend it, by shooting the same bloody tank and not resetting the counter.
So sad my little luchs didn't win that round it held up so well (p.s. the KV exploded somewhere).

This game would be so much better if they took out the pay2win elements, or at least not add to them. Also if they could fix the MM so that the spread of tiers isn't so large that would go a long way to making the game more enjoyable. I don't mind if I have to wait an extra 2 mins to get a better match up.
As it stands, BF3 will totally take away any drive to play this game if the Match maker and the pay2win aspects remains the same.

There is no real pay2win elements in the game. Premium ammo still bounces as much ordinary. Premium tanks aren't the best in their tier but are better than stock. So really all you're complaining about is your own lack of good play.
Player numbers is what is affecting the matchmaker, the NA server distinctly lacks those people. Now if you said they need only three arty per random match and evenly divide the heavies, mediums and TDs then I might agree with you.
BF3 is a different game. In any case you don't have to pay money to play WoT and you will get to top tier in everything.
|
I started on this last week. The best free game I've ever played and well worth a look in by anyone who hasnt yet.
Still very tempted to put a few dollars in to convert some free xp.
Starts to cost once you decide to buy some tanks.
Do you have to be in an uber clan for the gold to roll in? Be nice to get a little(enough) from clan play to do conversion for nothing :)

Premium ammo is better, a distinct advantage over the same spec'd tank without it.
Player numbers or not, the match making still leads to frustrating match-up at times, aye the balancing of tank types would go a long way. As for SPGs I don't mind having many or none. I care not for excuses.
What I said of BF3 applies to me, I didn't not mean that others would go. They are also talking of adding premium adaptive camo that gives additional bonus. I'm not sure if you can or can't get it with silver. So if they are happy to do that, where do they stop?
Don't get me wrong, WoT is a great game for the cost I just hope it doesn't slip too far towards pay2win.

Nah Hermi he's talking about the camm you can buy in 7.1. The credits version is cosmetic and adaptive for the map, the gold version is permanent, adaptive for the map and adds to the vehicle camo rating.

I like how people deal with the micro payment aspect of this game. Some people are OK with premium shells and modules, but not premium tanks. Others are OK with paying for Premium accounts (extra XP and credits) but nothing else, and some idiots are against anybody paying anything and seem to think that the developers will host a game that makes no money at all.
I've compromised most of my initial values, and have now paid for all options up to and including a premium tank. So many games start with angst when other players see Lowes or Type 59s on the map. It's pretty funny.

A lot of German tanks are misrepresented by the game from what you've read about WWII. In the game basically Soviet tanks are brawlers, German are snipers and US are a compromise of both. Once you get up into the PzIV with the long 75 and schmalturm you'll get the idea. Positioning your hull correctly can mean the difference between life and death quite literally for example. The PzIII in this case is a fast mover with a good gun for its tier, the PzIII Ausf A, though the same tank, is the earlier model and can be a pos for it's size. If you are talking about the PzIII use terrain and speed as your advantage.
Some tanks you will love and others you will hate (M3 Lee comes to mind, I didn't mind it but many hate it with a vengeance). All the tanks are good it's just the player who doesn't know how to use them. Some maps suit some tanks and others do not.
How wrong you are.
Only the squeeze bore premium ammo is significantly different to standard on the VK3601. The rest only has more penetration (tanks/TDs) and splash radius for SPGs. It still bounces and misses just the same as standard.

Well it isn't so much that, it is just that it is completely non-upgraded. So it is pretty slow, which isn't exactly what you need for a scout/spg hunter. Almost got enough XP to get the first upgraded engine, then will get the next, then the tracks, then maybe radio, gun last.
My favorite tank by far so far has been the BT-2. Fast, can damage any tank it comes across, and quite often is up against tanks of a similar tier.
I've got that at elite and crew is 92%. Good to have, because with out it I wouldn't still be playing.

Yep love my little BT-2 it's probably the best tank I have and the one that works best for me and the way I have been playing. Gotta love that speed and the accuracy of the gun at a good distance. I have been using this tank to help get XP since I have it at Elite now with the crew at 100% with about 60% on my secondary which is repair training.

Infidel I do like the scout type roll but once I step up a bracket or so I get whacked pretty quick. I have seen other guys use them pretty effectively so obviously I have to either learn a little more or adjust my play sytle a bit, probably a lot of both.
I tend to learn toward using my BT-2 as a bit of a sniper because I can get away with it in those lower brackets. I really only tend to push into the enemy side of the map if no one else is going forward and things start to stagnate abit. I do suffer abit when I am forced to get up close and personal with enemy tanks but I just put that down to me putting myself in a bad situation.

The BT-2 does pretty well in close quarters if you use its speed and frustrate the guy your fighting that 2/3 shots of his miss because you suddenly changed directions just before he shoots.
The BT-2 is also great on some maps for gunning ahead and rushing through a common chokepoint to get behind enemy lines without being spotted. Wait for a min then circle around back and you'll have heaps of low armored rears of tanks available. You have to watch out for SPG's doing that though, you get time to take out one tank while stationary but you must move and stay moving after that. I've found that the leopard just doesnt have the speed I thought it would :/

I have noticed my will to play the game lessening mainly because of the lengthy rewardless grind.
I can play now in my leopard and grind away for hours and not have any new parts/tanks. Unfortunately the leopard is consistently the lowest tank in the round and really not all that fun to play on half the maps (in particular those without many hiding places).
The BT-2 though, that is fun. I can be anywhere from the bottom to the top of the list, roughly 1/3 bottom, 1/3 mid, 1/3 top, that is much fairer and much, much more interesting and fun to play. It is literally the only thing keeping me in the game at the moment, as I can only bring myself to play the leopard a couple of times a session before I just get bored. It is GREAT though when I'm mid on the list with it. If they could fix up the balance of the match-maker it would go a long, long way to keep me interested.
Unfortunately the devs seem to be ignoring the what seems to be the biggest concern among players, particularly those who have to go the the tier 4/5 grind. The only people who don't seem to care about it are those who have been through it and see it as a 'right of passage' into the higher tier tanks. I'm not interested in the higher tier tanks. I want fair, fun games with the tanks I've got, ie a even spread between being higher tier tank to lower tier tank..
TLDR version, MM needs to be fixed in order to keep me interested at my current tier level.

Just curious but whats the quickest way of getting XP? Is there some rank brackets that typically get more XP than others per match or is it all pretty much the same all over?
See since you can get double XP for the first win of the day on very tank you have. I was thinking of maybe getting a couple of extra BT-2's (just an example) just for the purpose of getting that double XP each day. I am just bogged down in the XP grind atm and I am actually finding it tougher to advance than pretty much any MMO I have played with the exception of maybe one or two.

This is where WoT falls down imo. The rewards quickly get few and far between, this reduces your incentive to continue playing, plus being the lowest teir tank in 90% of matches is not very fun.
Look at WOW for example, well pretty much any successful MMO. There is always a constant drip of a reward 'not long now' or in the later levels the possibility of a great reward (good drops). WoT does not have that.

7 kills and should of been more except one of my frigging team mates thought it'd be a good idea to start shooting me. Btw what exactly does it mean when a player on my team has a blue name and icon?
FYI - Shooting one of your own team even if they are blue can leave your game short. If they're acting like tards tho it's a license to punish.
lol, Taipan, did you smurf out?

Anyone else got the E100? Its pretty damn dissapointing :/ The secret to survive is to constantly move and not allow anyone hit your soft spots and angle yourself but if you do that the 7 artilery against you will kill you ....

The bonuses are good, got 8k in an E100 with that 5 x multiplier. All others were bad games ... and a string of losses
KV and KV3 + IS is making double credits so if I get spare time this weekend will be doing that

I have a dilemma; I have finally poopsocked the XP needed to unlock the T-54, but I worry it's not going to be worth the grind if I buy it.
For the same XP (more or less) I could unlock both the T50-2 and Chaffee, to go alongside my VK2801. I'd be the king of the light tanks! But those tanks are all credit sinks... Any T-54 drivers able to advise on how worthwhile it is? I already drive a Type 59, which I think is pretty much the same play style.

although i'm grinding to the e-50
also I got the object 212 on the weekend.. now the longggg grind to the final arti so when you complain about 50k you need for the T-50-2 think of me and my 311000xp grind

160K XP here, but yeah I wouldn't want to grind 310K.
I never liked any SPG except the Su-26. It's the bane of light tanks everywhere, if they introduce a heavy SPG with a turret I may grind for it.

actually i'm liking the t-50 its alot of fun - if i'm lucky and i get into the enemy base and its a low tier game then i can rape face considering noobs have nfi how to shot a fast moving tank. usually take out all the arti and 1-2 camping TD's before i get detracked and die.. usually get 1000+ xp in a good match
fun times also the SU-14 was kinda good.. hits hard with AP rounds and if your lucky/good you can get alot of kills including alot of blind shots on nub arti players who always sit in the obvious places.. Infidel and me got a shit tonne of blind arti kills on the weekend.. my best was 3 blind arti kills in 1 game.. and another where 2 arti sat next to each other.. so got 2 blind kills with 1 shot
o the lolzzz

o yea and the object 212 just seems crisper - the targeting does not go all herp durp when u move across the map unlike the su14 which was shit..
the one big weird thing was that in all the ru arti i have played.. i have never got a ricochet.. in the object i got 2 in 2 games.. so i switched out to full HE rounds..

I am guessing BF3 is now taking a toll on the NA servers since last night I saw match ups with things like type 59's going up against M2's. They probably want to seriously consider what they intend to do to make sure it just doesn't get utterly ridiculous, which it kind of already is.

Numbers aren't really any different. Just remember M2s platooned with high tiers will get battles against the high tiers. You won't see a Tier 8 get matched into Tier 2/3 battles.
One of the things people have been complaining, since closed beta, about is allowing low tiers to platoon with high tiers.

Considering the gun on it...if you can't get a kill you're using it wrong. Well the E100 is such a huge target, smaller than the maus but still everyone seems to gang up on me. Lately I;ve been ending up in 6 artilery pieces a side so get chewed up badly because my unwilingness to camp it up in pub games.
