Kid Racks up £1,000 bill on Xbox Live

A desperate mother has condemned Microsoft after her 11-year-old son racked up a £1,000 debt on her debit card - through his Xbox. Brendan Jordan racked up a bill of £1,082.52 on his Xbox without realising all the purchases were being charged to his mum Dawn Matthews' card.

Nice one, kid manages to both rack up a massive bill and weasels out of punishment by sucking up to mum. It's all Microsoft's fault as well. Anyone else used the xbox live parental controls? They can't be that hard, surely?

Cool me superficial but just judging by the photo and the decor as well as her job description "Sales Executive", please, cough up and call it a day. Then spank the little shit silly knowing that kids know the difference between right and wrong by the age of 7.

Sales Executive just means salesperson, like BDM and Sales Consultant.

Over a 6 month period? Surely she gets monthly statements from the credit card?

Customers should be able to set spend limits on accounts.
These problems would disappear overnight.
Up to $10 a month
Up to $100 a month
Up to $1000 a month

Yeah I gotta go with this. Why would she not notice the charges to her CC?

How is any of it MS's fault? She put her details in, had it save them, then gave her kid unlimited access to the console. There's no difference than giving her kid the CC and letting him loose in a game store ffs.

Bring in parenting licenses already. >: /

yep, lols overall really - I cbf reading the link but why was her card attached to it in the first place? Surely any intelligent person would remove any links to said card any initial need for it?

Shieeeet, even with WoW I pay for a month and cancel it straight after just in case.

I reckon the kid knew what he was doing and cried wolf when his mum found out about it.

On the flip side he's got a $1000 avatar that's probably smarter than his mum.

Reminded me of that Aspergers kid who got banned for modding his achievements. He cried wolf over MS calling him a cheater, his mum jumped in a called MS the bad guys then MS pointed out he had been cheating by downloading save files and modding his account.

She calls singing a second job. hah!
she's too busy having fun at the clubs she sings at to look after her kid and check her credit card bill
having kids is an important role and needs a person to commit to it properly. it does go away after a coupla decades.

You can't remove your CC details from the xbox, you have to go through a website, is a bit of a pain.

My daughter was mashing the controls of my xbox once, managed to turn it on and ended up buying some dodgy background. I rang up microsoft after that and got them remove the CC details. Hahah

It's like a kid calling a phone sex service on a home phone, it happens all the time but you don't need a fucking news article about it

The only thing I agree with her about is trying to disconnect from xbox live. You have to physically call up fucking microsoft to cancel the subscription. What type of retarded idea is that.

Yer it sucks. You should be able to just delete it from the Xbox, but noo.
Also when I did it the website wouldn't work so I had to call them, twice.

It is heaps easy to sign up, should be just as easy to unsign.

At one job I was at I was titled the "Warehouse manager". I worked for a clothing company in the storage warehouse and was the only worker there apart from the "Office administrator" ie secretary. My job entitled taking stuff off shelves, putting them in boxes and sending them. I also had to keep an eye on stock levels. And because of that I was entitled to be called "warehouse manager", I preferred shitkicker as a title.

Why not just change the cc details to something random? I know you can do that through the Xbox as I do it all the time.
Every time someone tries to purchase it just denies it. problem solved.

Heh, I think you're probably right on both counts.

Instead of teaching the kid a valuable lesson on the value of money and leaving a huge boot imprint on the seat of his pants, instead mum calls the waaaambulance and blames microsoft in a whinge to the paper.

Yeah, it's like a lot of things. I love how it's so easy to enter your details for "easy future purchases" and things but just try removing your details, you gotta ring some phone number & jump through a bunch of hoops.
