Hi fella's, I have an old 40GB PS3 and received a new slim version one through a sony promotion. Is there any way that I can transfer my purchases from my old PS3 to new one??
Oh btw, the old PS3 is the 40GB version that can play older playstation 1 and 2 games if anyone wants to buy it off me.
Are you sure it plays PS2 games? I thought only the 60GB ones played PS2 games. They all play PS1 games. They also all have the option to make a virtual PS2 memory card (at least mine does), but it doesn't play the games.
But to answer your question, I'm pretty sure all you need to do is to log into your PSN account again and download your purchases.
If you don't want to download them again, you could get an external (FAT32) HDD and do a full system backup from the system settings and restore it on your new one. That is, provided it lets you restore a backup from a different system. I've only ever done it on the same system after upgrading the HDD. Also, this will delete anything on the HDD of the new system.
Also, it's a good idea to go to the downloads list on your old console (once your new one is up and running with your old purchases) and deactivate your purchases on the old console. PSN lets you activate any purchases you make on up to 5 different machines, even if it isn't your system. It's great, because it means you can share purchases with up to 4 mates, so you can take turns buying games. 5 for the price of one! But, if you're selling the old console, best to go and deactivate your purchases on it.
Exactly as Midda said... well played sir well played...
and on that, yea it IS only the original 60Gb pH@ PS3's that'll play PS2 games., they've also got 4xusb ports on the front and can do some other tricky dick stuff like play SACDs
