Proof that Day of Defeat Beta 4 is on the verge of being released as the Developer's make changes to the official DOD website. In previous betas the website has been altered just before the release, infering that we are only a few weeks, if not a few days away from the release of Beta 4. Once again, the release will be effected by the new Half Life update, previous trends will tell us that the DoD update along with the CS update will follow the HL patch, due to be released in early January. But it appears Valve has yet some suprises for Day of Defeat fans, but we'll have to wait until the new year.
HomeLAN - A few months ago, the Day of Defeat mod team was acquired by Valve. What can you tell us at this time about Valve's future plans for Day of Defeat?
Erik Johnson - We'll have some news on Day of Defeat coming in January.
In the community scene it appears organisers of the World Cyber Games will disregard pressure from the DoD community to open a Day of Defeat competition in 2003. No official comment in response to a petition, containing over 2500 individuals signitures from around the world is proof enough of that. Once again it seems that Day of Defeat has been put to the test and failed. All we can hope for now is that the developers will take the next Beta a step forward, instead of two steps back. Two steps back may just ruin the games chance to join the WCG ranks, and increase the lack interest already plaguing the game.
