Saw something this evening that appealed to my nasty streak...

Travelling west on Gininderra Drive so I saw these in reverse order... making it easier to pick up on them...

1) A speed camera van parked on the side of the road facing west.

2) A marked police car, with lights, with a truck pulled over on the opposite side of the road to the speed van.

3) Here's the sneaky bit... in the middle of the median strip "hiding behind" - sorry "resting against" a tree... two coppers with hand held speed guns.

Anybody heading/speeding east would have thought they were as safe as houses after seeing the van and then the cop on the other side of the road...

EDIT: Missus says she's seen similar a few times now - speed van and then coppers a k or two further on.

I've seen the same tactic on Gunghalin Drive. Camera van in the middle of the median strip, those 2 motor bike cops hiding behind some bushes at Palmerston.

(sarcasm mode) yeah... like this area of ginninderra drive is the worst for accidents. didnt i read somewhere that they just made an extra 650 roads eligible for speed cameras?

i hear over in england they are setting up two sets of camera on roads so the first one reads your speed and the time. if your going the speed limit its all fine and dandy. then the second set reads your speed and logs the time aswell. once again doing the speed limit its all good. the catch is the system is set up so that if you were doing the speed limit between the cameras all along, you should reach the second camera in a preset (or less) time. if you are a certain margin or over faster then you have obviously been speeding and are issued a ticket. fun! and its not like it would be hard to set up here. so not only are you supposed to be paranoid about running into 1 or 2 cameras, you have to be paranoid about how long it took between them!!

Wasn't the Victorian Government thinking of something like this last year. Pretty smart if you ask me. They have these camera's setup to get the time you pass.. You stop for say 30 minutes, then drive again, but this time clocking 200km/h, because we know that police won't bother patrolling the area. That'd be an awesomely smart move.

Well, actually you are just supposed to travel at the speed limit... (Yes, I know - absolutely ridiculous idea)

And I believe they had introduced something like this along the Hume, but only for trucks... not just to monitor speed, but to enforce rest breaks.
