there's nothing in it between nvidia and ATI lastest cards. they are about as fast as each other (there's only a difference of about 4-5 fps in most tests)

... isnt their next card the R420? and hence X800 means a 9800? X being the ubiquitous pronumeral? i'm probably wrong, expecially in light of the benchmarks there... but still.

Edit: oh wait, i get it ^_^. X as in 10 as in the short term successor to the 9800. makes more sense now ^_^.

the geforces anistropic filtering sucks arse, then again the radeons opengl performance is somewhat lacking.

my 9800 is still going strong, i'll skip this round of upgrading and see what nv5x and r5xx have to offer

I'll skip every round of upgrading until someone designs a beefy power supply for a Shuttle. Until then, I'm stuck with just 280Watts.

Sif leaked! ...Stupid 'Leakages!'

This just posted on www.overclockers.com.au
ATI have released their Radeon X800 Visual Processing Unit. Gamers using computers powered by RADEON X800 will enjoy a higher performance, immersive gaming experience that looks better than ever before. This High Definition Gaming experience is the PC equivalent to watching a sporting event on an HDTV. This is made possible by the highly scalable and efficient architecture of the RADEON X800 that uses 16 parallel pixel pipes and 6 vertex pipes to process more than 8 billion pixels and almost 800 million vertices per second.

How typical.

"Not only did ATi's reference cards reach us very late, they also came with the wrong BIOS versions. At 473/445 MHz, the X800 Pro ran slightly slower than specified. The X800 XT, on the other hand, was markedly overclocked, running at 526/574 MHz instead of 520/560 MHz. This was enough to boost the card's performance by up to 3% - enough to falsify our measurements. Unfortunately, we only realized this after we had already completed our suite of tests, making it necessary to completely re-run all tests. For this corrected run-through, we used an ATi-internal clocking tool (please don't ask for it!) to adjust the cards' clockspeeds to the correct values."

Both these cards are both so uber that i wouldn't recommend either one over each other. I would buy which ever is cheapest.

sounds a bit like the original issue geforce fx - people's orders getting canceled because nvidia didn't bother to say they were only going to build a certain amount of reference modes and expected some other card maker to have their's out by then... or maybe im living in a dream world where it happened that way :/

[deep sigh] And my 9800XT is what - a month old? If only school had started 4 weeks later...blah.

I think the Nvidia cards look alot nicer but thats just me hehe. I wont get a window in my sonata for a radeon anyway.

It only seems right since they are AGP cards, when PCI-Express comes I am sure it would be more viable for them to make a longer term commitment to making the chips.
Hence, I mean greater quantities of the same processors

The one thing that may lost it for ATI is the Pixel Sahder 3.0, but on the plus side unlike the nvida that uses 2 independent Molex plugs and 2 slots the ati only uses 1 slot and no molex plugs whatsoever.

the only really new thing with PS 3.0 is flow control, and the X800 already has that. pretty much everything you do in 3.0 can be done in 2.0

In other words, it's slightly faster -- TO THE MAX!!!
