If you were wondering why EA's E3 press conference had a severe case of sequelitis, the answer is that the publishing giant sees a bigger advantage in holding off on debuting new Intellectual Property (IP) franchises until the next big hardware refresh.

Speaking to CVG, EA Labels President Frank Gibeau stated that "In the new cycle you're going to see a lot of new IP from Electronic Arts."
He told CVG: "The introduction of new hardware from the big three is going to allow us to reembark on a bunch of new IPs, because it's the better time to do it, because you can really explore new ideas and do different things.

"In a market this massive, launching new IPs is very risky and it's a big investment to make these games. So it's a natural thing to see in this point in the cycle a little bit more emphasis on the knowns, but in the new cycle you're going to see a lot of new IP from Electronic Arts."
While in the interim, we can expected more Dead Space, more Medal of Honor, more Need for Speed and more SimCity, Gibeau asserts that EA will have a lot of freshness when the expected next Xbox and PlayStation consoles finally come to town.
"I can tell you right now there's between three and five new IPs that we're working on that we're thinking about for the next-gen. Some of them might come to market, some of them might not.

"it's really one of those things where I'm consciously looking at introducing new IPs into the portfolio over the next several years as the new hardware comes into the marketplace that we can refresh."
The comments inadvertedly indicate that the publisher isn't confident in the Wii U's promise of innovation, as the already three month old Mass Effect 3 is their only confirmed title for Nintendo's new platform, with "a number of sports games" from the EA Sports line-up also expected.

While Ubisoft's E3 press conference was widely acknowledged to be one of the stronger presentations kicking off this year's show, one of the publisher's major upcoming titles was conspicuously absent.

Not Beyond Good and Evil 2, as that one's now rumoured to be a next-gen title, so we weren't expecting to see or hear much about that one. We're talking about Rainbow Six: Patriots, the tactically-themed first person shooter that Ubi revealed late last year with a cinematic trailer and an intriguing concept video, but has barely been heard of since.

Fans of Team Rainbow fear not however, as according to an an IGN interview, the lights are still on for Patriots. Ubisoft Marketing VP Tony Key explains that "Rainbow 6 is still in active development but what we decided was that the best thing for the brand was to not bring it to the show right now".

When quizzed about whether the game had shifted to next-gen console development, IGN ambiguously quote Key as saying "This is the only generation that I know about, so I would assume yes.", which due to them not providing the full question for context, it's hard to derive whether that's a yes or no.

Rainbow 6: Patriots was originally slated for a 2013 release, but it's difficult to say how accurate that target might still be until we hear more.

There is always a notable celebrity or two or three to be spotted at the annual E3 expo, one of which is usually the rapper Snoop Dogg, an avid gamer who's status allows him on-demand access to product previews that even press have to queue for.

This year however, Snoop is once again involved directly in the promotion of a game -- Namco Bandai's Tekken Tag Tournament 2 -- and was scheduled for interviews with several bigger publications. Most sites like Gamespot and GTTV just did the usual star-worship questionnaire about his thoughts on the game, but Eurogamer did something a little different that we just had to share.

EG's Rob "Bertie" Purchase actually strung together some rhymes and was answered in kind. You want learn much about Tekken, but it doesn't matter. Watch the embed below.

AusGamers had a chance to have a lengthy catch-up with Far Cry 3's level director, Mark Thompson, to talk all things first-person and insanity. A lot of topics are covered, including the game's ecology, crafting, economy, skill-trees, takedowns and more.

"Yeah, we have three branches and you can choose to go into one or be more of a generalist," Thompson explains. "And you saw Jason’s tattoo in the demo, well each new skill is a part of the tattoo, so basically at the end of the game, you and I would have different tattoos because we would [probably] choose different skills. What’s cool about first-person is we have lots of animations like climbing animations that show off the tattoo. So we try to really use that well.

"We [also] have those healing animations from Far Cry 2, you know, where you really had to dig the bullet out," he added. "And so with the tattoo and those animations you’re always reminded of your skills and it connects you to Jason."

Out of E3 today, Lace Mamba global has released a new trailer for Lucius, the upcoming adventure game where you play as a demonic young boy, tasked with bringing an untimely end to the residents of a creepy mansion -- currently in development at Finnish studio Shiver Games.
Lucius is a new, upcoming 3D horror adventure. Players will have to orchestrate deadly accidents, using items, tools and hell’s powers such as Telekinesis and Mind Control. By combining classic adventure gameplay with the freedom of a 3D world, players will have to use their wits and follow hints to make sure they don’t leave any marks and can continue their evil mission until the very end.

Equipped with supernatural powers, Lucius starts off to a blood-flooding tour of horror through his house that will minimize the population of the manor one by one by one...
Watch the trailer below or here in our HD library.

Lucius is due on PC on October 26th 2012.

Generally at the E3 expo, if publishers haven't shown much of a new game, they won't permit press to video gameplay footage directly off a demo screen unless is in the background of an interview or similar, but some always seem to unwittingly slip through unaware and today a good 25 minutes of gameplay from the freshly announced Beyond: Two Souls has surfaced on Youtube.

The shakey-cam video offers a long chunk of gameplay from Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream's next story-driven adventure, starring a mo-capped Ellen Page and shows improved graphics and more of the very liberal use of quick-time events that we've come to know from them. Watch the embed below.

Beyond: Two Souls is due in 2013 exclusively for PlayStation 3.

It was more or less assumed from the theme of the debut trailer and experiences with past Elder Scrolls games that the first downloadable content expansion for the hugely successful Skyrim would allow the player to become a vampire, and now it's not really even a question any longer, as the first batch of screenshots includes a skill page titled "Vampire Lord" that describes the ability to "Kill enemies with the Drain Life or bite power attack to earn perks".

In other Dawnguard news, VG247 is reporting that Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard has confirmed a June 26th 2012 release date for the pack on Xbox 360, which given the console's promised 30 day exclusivity window, means the likely PC and PlayStation 3 release date will be around the end of July.
