With the Australian Open behind us for another year, tennis fever has settled down again around these parts, but if you're still jonesing for another half-volley hit, it's now EA Sports' turn to serve.

Although EA have their hat in the videogame ring for most major sports and clearly lead the field with games like FIFA and Madden NFL, tennis hasn't found the same success for them. Unlike other annual titles in the EA Sports lineup, Grand Slam Tennis 2 comes along three years after the original Grand Slam Tennis, offering more features, more refinement and boasting to be the only tennis title featuring the Wimbledon courts.

So how does it stack up? Find out in our latest review.

Yesterday we saw Notch and Tim Schafer wanting to team up and create Pyschonauts 2, a well deserved sequel to a game that was a true cult classic. Today we are seeing the creators of Pyschonauts, Brutal Legend and Costume Quest (among more) asking you, the public, to help create and develop a game.

Tim Schafer, the creator of Double Fine Studios has put across a idea that hasn't been seen before. A small team at Double Fine Studios will use Kickstarter, the world's largest funding platform for creative projects, to create a brand-new, downloadable "Point-and-Click" graphic adventure game for the modern age.

The idea is that the public will donate money to the Kickstarter program, and along with the warm feeling of helping, you will be able to see a game being developed by the public, for the public. The really cool part? Pledge at least $15,000 and you get to have dinner with Tim Schafer and key members of the team. Check out the rest of the premium investor perks:
  • Pledge $15,000 or more:
Dinner with Tim Schafer and key members of the dev team.

  • Pledge $20,000 or more:
Dinner and BOWLING with Tim Schafer and key members of the dev team.

  • Pledge $30,000 or more:

Get ready for a grand oceanic action title this Autumn because Hasbro and Activision have teamed up to present Battleship, a video game adaptation of the classic naval strategy game with the help of Double Helix Games.

It seems to be a stand-alone story from the big Hollywood blockbuster, and features a blend of stragetic naval command and first-person action gameplay.
BATTLESHIP follows elite demolitions specialist Cole Mathis as he clashes against an aquatic-based extraterrestrial peril in the sand and sea of the beautiful Hawaiian archipelago. Trapped in a veritable communications dead zone, Mathis must command the U.S. Navy fleet in a “siege on the sea,” while simultaneously rallying the troops on land for a terrifying “war on the shore.”

Combining naval strategy simulation with first-person shooter gameplay, players fend off the enemy beachside while ordering attacks against their marine counterparts. Seamlessly switching between battlefield and overview “Battle Command” map, the Hasbro game is brought to life as carriers, frigates, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and the legendary USS Missouri Battleship pummel the enemy in a race to strategic points that turn the tide of battle. The BATTLESHIP videogame is a next-gen marvel perfectly suited to turn nostalgic game junkies into battle-hardened admirals.
Battleship: The Video Game will be surfacing on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this April for Australia, so stay tuned for more.

Check out the video below for a sneak peek at what's to come or head over to our game page for screenshots and more info.

Gamers who are concerned that there won't be enough limb flailing, head rolling hysterics in NeverDead will be pleased to know that Konami have today announced the details for the first DLC pack, ahead of the retail release.
The Expansion Pack offers the user the chance to control a fashionable, charismatic pop-idol called Nikki Summerfield within NeverDead’s cooperative online challenges, and take part in three new challenges within the reworked Asylum stage. These include:

  • Egg Hunt: Scour the expanded Asylum level for collectables scoring points by delivering them to designated ‘Score Zones’. Opponents will try to snatch any that you drop along the way, while enemy ambush points and environmental hazards at every turn up the ante.

  • Fragile Alliance: A competitive race through a number of checkpoints spread across the map. Users can interrupt their rivals’ progress by attacking each other. This mode also sees the number of environmental hazards and enemy spawn points upped for additional challenge.

  • Onslaught: Unlock the entire Asylum level section-by-section by defeating all enemies. Demon-seals that block off areas will dissipate as you defeat enemies from the previous area, providing more-controlled player movement and encounters.
  • Also included in the expansion pack is two new costumes for online users to dress their Bryce in.

NeverDead is rolling into stores February 16th 2012 for Australians, and the DLC will be available February 22nd 2012. Check out the screenshots below detailing the new DLC pack and leave us a comment on your thoughts.

Reddit user RamsesA has done what no Minecraft-ian has done before. He re-built World of Warcraft's Kalimdor zone in Minecraft. Yes. All of it.
My pet project has been to recreate a full-scale version of World of Warcraft inside Minecraft. The creation of the world is largely automated by custom software which I've been developing over the last few weeks. It's just now reached a point where I can release some quality screenshots!

Below you will see vistas from the first zone I have converted, Kalimdor, that I believe are very faithful to the original World of Warcraft environment. The same process will be used to re-create the entire game, including all continents and dungeons.
Even though he used a automated software to read World of Warcraft's map data, that is still a pretty hefty achievement.

Check out the screenshots below showing some of the zones, or head over to his imgur album for the full list of Kalimdor zones. You can also check out his post on the Minecraft forums, or have a look at the massive world render.

The Witcher 2 for PC has had some really gorgeous graphics, and it took quite a bit of PC power to play at very high detail, so it's no real surprise Namco Bandai are trying to keep that quality look with their new "Enhanced Edition" coming to Xbox 360 and PC this April.

These 10 new screenshots show off the amazing detail put into The Witcher 2, a single-player RPG that really gave a sense of choice and power to the player. Each one has breath taking scenery, and shows you just how awesome the Xbox 360 and PC versions will be.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition will be available on Xbox 360 on the 17th of April, and also on the same day for PC players, free of charge.

Dave "ko-zee-ii" Kozicki has completed the epic battle that is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, EA's latest blockbuster role player. Boasting a huge game world with many hours of entertainment, the game promises much fun - and Dave takes it through its paces to find out if it delivers:
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is all about action and doesn’t want to constrain you to one style. You can play as your classic rogue using the longbow, daggers and faeblades (the coolest weapon around) and get all stabby-stabby quick-time stealthy assassin-ninja style. You can call down the thunder as a mage using staffs and other magically imbued items, or grab a hammer or any other monolithic sharp pointed-ended thing and simply beat the crap out of enemies as a warrior and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Check out our review for all the details. The game is due for release later this week - make sure you check out our game page for the best deals.

Melbourne-based independent game developer Harry Lee has come out on top in the recent Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA365), scoring a cool $5,000 as well as a 12 month mentorship with Sydney-based creative agency Soap Creative.
18 year old winner Harry Lee runs an independent games studio, Wanderlands and last year released Impasse, a difficult and different minimalist puzzle game to critical acclaim. Most recently, Lee made a mythology inspired platformer called Midas for Ludum Dare 22. Midas was awarded four gold medals, winning the jam. An active member of Melbourne’s development, community, Lee is involved in many projects promoting play making and game literacy, as well as hosting many informal game jams. Last year, he formed The Underground Collective, a society of young game developers in Melbourne who occasionally meet up to discuss, critique, and learn from current game development practices.
You can check out Harry's work on his Wanderlands site. Hot on the heels of the SEGA shutdown from yesterday, it's great to hear indie developers are still making great strides here in Australia.

There are four new categories in the SOYA awards this year, including Animation, Interactive Content and Gaming - both worth a look if you're an independent developer doing your own new and exciting stuff. Creative categories close every month, so if you're interested in participating (and winning) head over to the SOYA365 site now for more information.

Tim Schafer, the founder of Double Fine who produced the cult classic title Pyschonauts, told Digital Spy earlier in the month on wanting to create a sequel to the squirrel burning game, however couldn't find a publisher to secure a deal.
"I mean I get a lot of, on Twitter or whatever, daily questions about Psychonauts 2. And I would love to do Psychonauts 2, I've actually pitched that to publishers several times and no-one has taken the bait so far," he told Digital Spy.
However, the sun may still shine upon Tim Schafer and Double Fine Studios, as Markus Persson (better known as "Notch") has stated on his twitter that he is eager to make Pyschonauts 2 happen (and he's serious).

This kind of gesture can only mean good things, and something that a lot of people are eagerly hoping to be true. We will keep you updated on whether or not Tim Schafer accepts this awesome offer from Notch.

GoG.com have just sent word that they have now added the old classic Thief 2: The Metal Age to their massive library of games.
The story picks up after the events of THIEF™ GOLD. The Metal Age has come to the City. The city has gone fully steampunk and steam-powered robots, cameras, and other cutting edge wonders have been introduced by the Mechanists, a faction raised from the ashes of the Hammerite religion.

Although the Mechanists are a new cult, they are led by a former Order of the Hammer priest named Karras, and he is showing the usual Hammerite taste for labyrinthine plots. Not everyone loves the new religion, though, and the City’s people have created a small religious sect in opposition to the Mechanists.

The Pagans are a nature-loving sect led by Viktoria, a wood nymph in human form. Their aim is to shun technology and live in harmony with the wild, chaotic natural world.
Thief 2: The Metal Age is now available for a thief-tastic price of $9.99 from Good Old Games.
